i bought my Mrs an ipad to accompany her iphone at Christmas. 😕

as much as i love its sleek look and simplicity. i did begin to feel a bit restricted on browsing/navigating etc. i don’t have big hands but still found me making allot of silly errors.

oh and YES it works perfectly fine with UKSB. 😉

one thing that i found a big disappointment is No "Flash player" yeh it has Youtube but as far as i can see is its been modified in some way to deal with youtube videos. but not other site flash videos.
are they forgetting or hoping we forget that there are millions upon on millions of flash coded websites out there that just come up with a blank screen when viewed via the ipad, which "I’m guessing" same situation with iphone?.
i am sure there is a good reason for this flaw, but as more and more other brands of touch Pad browsers become available that do partner with flash, and more competitively priced. well, i see this is a big disappointment in the pad for me at least and i was only using it to mess around with for a few hours.

i also found it quite heavy for its size. i certainly wouldn’t like to lay in bed reading an e-book and holding that up for any length of time. i imagine its little things like the weight comparison over the amazon kindle that will win hands down when it comes down to comparison on "fit for purpose". so to speak… by that i mean the Kindle is much lighter and easier to hold, navigate etc

anyway… just thought ide mention a few thoughts on it after only a few hours trying it.

Yep, Adobe want to put flash on the ipad/iphone but Steve jobs is refusing too, he’s worried about "apps" i bet as he has control over them at present.

I always thought the ipad would be a flop so wasn’t getting one as I didn’t see a need for one. Surprised they are selling well.

My staff bought me one for my birthday in November and i must say i don’t really use it, I’m waiting to ‘find a use’ i do love it but its the reason i thought it would be a flop ie no real use!

I actually considered buying one for myself. simply "for business meetings".
its less hassle and not as bulky as my laptop. no mouse needed either.
I hate touch pads on laptops with a passion, i also hate touch screens. but for a simple flick through presentation it would have been good. sadly not to be…
definately wont be buying the iPad due to lack of flash etc but am still considering a pad of some description for meetings.

the pad really is just a bigger verson of the iphone. 😕

the ipad does nothing for me, cause you don’t get nothing out the end of it, it is purely for browsing the Internet……boring for me, but that’s just me, and i hate the idea of typing on the eeeh slidy keyboard….your fingers just get lost and your brain does not communicate with the letter you typed (not like the solid hit function on the qwerty keyboard…..but I’m maybe getting too old 😉

Aren’t apple releasing their own version of Flash as a free piece of software? It’s somewhere on their site.

Well I personally love my IPad, I treated myself to one when they were first released, and it is used daily by the whole family, and even borrowed by some of our staff if the pub is quiet.
It has travelled the length of Thailand, updated my bit of travel ‘blog’ on Facebook, keeps my uploaded photos safe, all my reading material is on it-no need to carry paperbacks anymore, and with earphones I was able to entertain myself with various games and reading for the 15 hours flight!
When I need to make a note or phone number, I now write it on the iPad-my memory is awful, and I don’t have scraps of paper to lose any more!

I have a Blackberry phone which I used for emails mainly, but I haven’t used it for months, and am going to sell it as it is now surplus!

    Just my 2c

Oh, forgot to say, lack of flash is annoying, but as I have a Pc also, I will catch any flash stuff when convenient.

I have an ipod (which I use mainly for music) but I am blown away at its abilities to interact with the internet, play movies, send and receive emails along with the myriad of apps that are available to download.

My understanding is that the ipad is an enlarged version of the ipod (making it easier to see and read the screen) which is a brilliant idea. However, the beauty of the ipod is its compact size and portabilty.

I can’t help but think that what they should have invented was a pair of glasses (the visual equivalent of headphones) to plug into the ipod machine to create the ultimate portable device.

As far as I am aware flash is too memory hungry for the iPad and would slow it down considerably! There is another alternative to flash currently under development that apple believe will shortly phase out flash. Apple are probably developing it!!
It is designed to be a net surfer and for that I think is great! I bought my computer phobic father 1 and he has gone from not being able to turn a computer on to using the net, emails and YouTube daily!
They have plenty of draw backs but for what they are they get my vote!

with regards to flash and the ipad one of the main reasons that jobs wont let flash onto his apple wares, well their are a couple of reason but one of the main ones is security! Flash is now so bloated and vulnerable with security flaws that jobs wouldn’t let it near an apple mobile product in a million years.
PDF reader is now so bad that i only use it on a system that I don’t connect to the net. or I use foxit which to be honest is-int much better.

HTML5 is some say the way forward as it doesn’t require flash However their have recently been quite a few security problems with html5
The trick with adobe is to update as often as you are able to! And then stay off of the net with that system if its a main system computer adobe only update on the 2nd Tuesday of ever third month! You will have a pretty long wait if their is a zero day vulnerability, And their are a lot of them out at the moment, Zero day is a security flaw in adobe that they don’t know about yet! But the bad guys do know about, And use it to exploit your computer I’m cutting myself off now as this could easily turn into a 5000 word doc about adobe and it’s flaws,
if your at all interested in the adobe problem then go to my mate’s website Steve Gibson http://www.grc.com
also he does a pod-cast which is actually very good called security now.

Ps I love my Ipad even if it sounds like a ladies product,
but if you want to read books get a kindle wifi is £109 at the moment and the screen e-ink system is as close to a book as you can get!

The ipad is great when you’ve got time to kill…..there’s very good drawing applications and they work well with a stylus, also a thing called Football Manager can keep an 11 year old quiet for hours and hours, an absolute joy.

    😀 😀

I really could do with a new phone, and because I use my ipod all the time I was interested in the iphone as I have come to the conclusion that a iphone was an ipod with a phone in it…there are lots of apps too, but to have a £600 phone on me all the time…expensive…
Then someone mentions the android phones and now I am more at a loss as which to choose…
iphones have more hardware options as in docking stations and the like…too.
I wouldnt like an ipad really as it would be too big to hold to my ear 😕

when you think that you practically can do anything with Flash, then Apple would have a problem with it…. that I beleive is also another reason

my android fixed my car, can a iphone do that.
it was running rough and the management light had come on. connected the phone via a bluetooth obd connector and the fault came up then directed me to a web site to tell me the code meaning.

striped down the faulty valve cleaned, replaced the wiped the code away.

car back to its happy self.

Hi Dave, check CES 2011,Windows tablets everywhere, enough to overdose on!

I am an Apple fan, tried the iPad but took it back. Great little toy for browsing etc but it did get me into the touch thing for drawing, but drawing with your finger is not very precise (David Hockneys pictures apart).

Researched and realised that loads of tablets were released in mid 2005 onwards. Windows XP tablet edition, all with Wacom pens! (If you use a Wacom tablet you will understand). Picked one up off ebay for £150, installed Windows 7 on it and SketchBook Pro and it’s great for drawing on. Bit like an overblown etch a sketch 😀
Hopefully this year pick up a newer model that runs photoshop.
