Slightly off your point but, I know from experience that Avery 900 series metallic silver definitely has some form of grain. When wrapping truck / trailer sides, you have to have all drops going in the same orientation off the roll or you will get a striped finish, and if you just get one the wrong way up it will leap out at you.

-
Hi Rob,
We used a combination of avery mpi 2000 & avery mpi 1900 all liquid laminated for the outside and md5 on the inside. This actual promotion is going live for one week ! – 72 hrs isn’t too bad when there were 7 of us over 2 days.
-
Hi Shane,
We fitted quite a lot on the inside as well, and the roof is fully wrapped so I think it took somewhere between 65 -72 hours to fit.

Your fairly safe with that outline, when you take into account the variant taxi shapes which are commonly, TX1, TX2 (same as TX1 for our purposes), Metrocab and Fairway……..Wait until you get into bus outlines – now that is a nightmare minefield !
-
Be careful on this one as O2 own the copyright on the particular bubbles they use, and can be quite pedantic about their use.

Tread carefully as you are about to step into a minefield. Not all "wrapping" vinyls live up to their claims, faults may not be immediately apparant and if you have done 10 or so before anything comes to light you may have an expensive rectification on your hands.
To start your wrapping career it is far better to build up experience with 1 offs rather than a fleet of 40, which has no doubt allowed the customer to screw your price right down. -
Can I come out of hiding yet ? :lol1:

Peter, a lot depends on your reasoning for laminating in the first place, if you are laminating to preserve the vibrance and quality of the print a liquid laminate does the job no problem, if however you are laminating to prevent stone chips on bonnets, abrasive brushes such as carwashes etc., then film laminate is your boy. It all depends on what your brief is as to life expectancy of the job. As a standard we use liquid, as we do on our own vehicles, which seems to last perfectly well, If you have a customer who is not prepared to lovingly look after the work of art you have created for him and thinks that cleaning his vehicle is best attempted by a yops lad with a scotchbrite and a can of T-cut the only way it can last is with a film laminate.
By the way I am in total agreement with regards to a lot of failiures being down to application technique, but I stand by what I say that there is no film on the market today that will wrap all vehicles successfully 100% of the time. -
Dont want to rock the boat but unlike Peter we actually recomend liquid laminate for most vehicle wraps, the exceptions being when the vehicle is regularly washed by automated brush equipment ie buses.
Logic tells me that when so many wraps fail, pulling out of recesses etc. it is a lot more likely that one "skin" of vinyl with what amounts to a varnish will stand a lot more chance of being stable than two layers of vinyl, both trying to pull back out. Incidently, we have never had a come back or complaint either on the quality or longevity of any wrap we have supplied with a liquid laminate.

MemberJune 13, 2007 at 11:00 pm in reply to: Digital Print vinyls on curtain siders is there a material?Peter it really is a viable option, we did the sums based on Avery printable curtain vinyl, and if you were to do a complete wallpaper job it works out more expensive than printing a complete new set of curtains.
Add to this the punter can put his original curtains back on at the time of resale, he will sell his vehicle quicker probably and get a bit more for it which in a way helps offset some of his initial expense having them done.
It’s all a matter of sourcing the best materials at the right prices. -

MemberJune 13, 2007 at 4:49 pm in reply to: Digital Print vinyls on curtain siders is there a material?jJust had a look at Wardies previous post and would disagree with pricing,
We have just supplied a pair of printed curtains roughly 8m x 2.5m, liquid laminated, (but no buckles straps etc. – usually about £300) for £720 and we make a profit on that

-
Hi Rob, the rip tiled it all down for us into 11 panels per side and yes it’s all liquid laminated.
-
Hi Karl, it was all printed on our ejet 16 plus 3.2m full solvent printer
-
Hi Shane, the trick is, with a new trailer – pick up the phone and speak directly to the manufacturer, find out the likelyhood of any problems and then base your call on their specialist advice.
-
Hi Peter, Chris, yes we did the artwork in house and the locking bars were left in position on this trailer as it was about 4 years old. If it had been brand new we would have removed them.
-
The theory behind these types of tools – 3M make one called an air release tool, is that with the best will in the world a scalpel or blade will make a slit rather than a hole. This tool makes a round hole, therefore the tension on the vinyl is equal all around, a slit makes an unequal tension situation – theoretically making it more likely that the vinyl will split open over a period of time.

You could try ADM services based in Derbyshire,
Andy Malcolm on 07921380282 -
Peter,
Does that mean you have to wear your pants over your trousers ?
-
What inks are you using Kevin ?
-
Peter,
We were given all of the images, then told to "look at our website" and do what you can to reflect that image. So in answer to your question yes and no.
Also we’ve wrapped or partially wrapped some 25 vehicles at the new place since Dec 6th , plus we,ve been doing internal alterations and not to mention christmas etc., WHEN IN GODS NAME DO YOU THINK WE’VE HAD TIME TO DO THE BLOODY DOOR ? ! -
It’s a full wrap up to the gutter line, the background- although you cant tell very well in the photos- is grey at the bottom, fading up to white.

MemberDecember 29, 2006 at 12:30 pm in reply to: Can anyone assist on pricing for wrapping?Hi Karl,
I think the major problem comes from the difference between fleet graphics and one off vehicles. Fleet specifiers are driven by budgets wheras the independent businessman knows what he can afford as a one off expenditure. Also the profitability is decided not only on what you charge for a job, but what you pay for materials – as we all know on here, what you see as the published price is more or less a starting point for pricing negotiations. We could print & laminate a wrap as described above for well under £500, but we use large volumes of material.

MemberDecember 29, 2006 at 11:00 am in reply to: Can anyone assist on pricing for wrapping? You did very well to get that sort of price, ever tried selling snow to eskimos? Average price lwb sprinter, no roof, would be itro £2500 – 3000,
We just priced a 3/4 wrap – from the doors back, all across the back doors and back up to the front doors – 9 of them, we priced at roughly 1100 ea and were promptly undercut. Rule of thumb – get what you can for spinters because they are without doubt the van that will come back to bite you ( same goes for VW LT35’s, before somebody else points that out) -
Hi all,
We have 3000 sq ft in total, plus a mezzanine floor giving us a dedicated fitting area of just over 1000 sq ft, about 400 sq ft of office space, the rest being given over to production and stores. Unfortunatley Rob we are going to have to alter the doors, we need another 150 – 200mm to get a full height double decker in.
