  • Help needed, What materials are used for DynoRod Vans

    Good Afternoon People,

I have had an enquiry for DynoRod and I am trying to find out the material that is used, has anyone had any experience with them. The customer mentioned that he is sure it is a 3M material. It is a bright Day Glow Orange colour from the look of it.

    Any ideas??

In short, I do not know what vinyl is used here. but when you say "day-glow" i always term this as fluorescent.
Is it actually a fluorescent though? I know in the past they have been because they fade and look bad, but i do not know of any range of proper wrapping film that has a fluorescent in its range. Perhaps it has been a colour matched film specifically for Dyno-rod which is possible. but that being the case you would need to locate the company that had the batch colour created. we have some customers we have colour matched films for and you will have a minimum quantity purchase and a lead time to wait on it proofed, signed off and processed.

i have the latest avery swatches sat next to me and nothing in it i would say is close.

Cheers for that, Day Glow was the term used by James at 3M. Been in contact with them and he is shooting emails round the office to see if there is a history of materials used.

Just wondered if anyone on here had a prior knowledge of it. We will see what 3M have to offer but I can see this being awkward to get hold of. :awkward:

    This material looks about right!

Do you think if this was applied onto an IJ180 film it would have better longevity? Would definitely make it an easier film to work with I’m sure!

No I meant i call it "Day Glow" too, to describe Fluorescent. but many don’t and just term it that because it’s bright.

If you have been told its 3M then that is probably the one. 5 year cast.

laminating it onto another will increase your costs, it will not increase the life of the film.

if your laminating it to a control-tac media then yes it will make installation easier due to the adhesive system and also because it will thicken up the cast and make easier handling. should it fail on you your on your own right away though.

I seem to recall 20 or so years ago that Dyno-rod, in a very contraversial move, COPYRIGHTED its colour.

Somewhere in the universe there will be a batch of this stuff available to signwriters.
Ask your contact at Dyno rod to locate some.

    Simon.

I’m sure i heard the same thing as simon, think they copyrighted the colour so is only produced for them.

Sorry to bring up an old discussion, but I’ve had an enquiry from a bodyshop that I carry out livery repairs for… they have a Transit custom with the grey wrap and the orange logo applied over the top, I need to supply and fit. Did anyone manage to get to the bottom of the vinyl references at all?

Hi Carl, whenever i do insurance jobs for big companies i find they tend to supply the kit. I just add my bit for fitting. Would imagine Dyno-Rod would fall into this catogery. Id contact them fleet department and ask for the decals you need. They will probably ask for the reg and what garage its i for repairs but they would rather supply than you try and match and not get it right. Saves alot of headaches too.

We did around 20 of these, all painted instead of wrapped.

Dyno rod supplied the colour ref and layouts.
