I always cut by hand in panels and the only time Ive saw rust was on a van I let a suby cut. Butchered it big time and he was meant to be experienced. Funny thing was he taught me a nice method of getting bubble free flood coating in panels with bare vinyl on the same day which I have used loads of times on the same customers vans since.
They’ve never mentioned the rust any time Ive been back to do more work thankfully.

Thanks Rob
Bought some ss cable ties today because 1 of the signs is on a fence on the street and was worried someone might cut them. Havenโt used these before so everyday is a school day. -
quote David Stevenson:Use these all the time James. Would hold that size no problem. Nice neat finish if spaced correctly. I always use the horizontal bars to hold the weight of the sign to stop it slipping down. You’ve also the option to cut the excess bolt out for a neater finish if you like and add a lock nut for extra security.
Thanks David
-
quote Simon Worrall:1. Drill a hole in the sign
2. Feed in a cable tie from the back, carry it on round a strand of the fence, and back through the hole in the sign.
3. Place a short length of steel rod over the hole, and tighten the cable tie round the rod.
4. Repeat.Nice 1 Simon

Thanks Neil
Why didnt I think of that?
Have you used theses clips? Would they hold a large 7 by 4 size Ali comp?

Its not so much the paint work under the old vinyl as the loss in shine to the general area where the glue has been rubbed around with solvents.
Never been an issue on your standard white van but this was a well looked after black paint job and now I’m being held responsible for something that i’m thinking I’m going to have to protect myself from in future.
Who that does van graphics wants to start warning customers that there paint work will be dulled and they’ll have to have it polished when there trying to sell it on.
Not exactly a helpful selling point.
More and more van are coming out with car quality paint work.

Stick your head in their door and save them the trouble of searching online for a Sign maker.
If I spend ยฃ1000 on advertising I’m asking myself; how many vans would I have to do just to pay for that?
Id rather have 1 job on than any amount of ‘enquiries‘.

The routerer if there is such a word recons that acm is best but i’ll ask the customer how flat he thinks the substrate will remain and lay the options out.

Blade runner flooring designed for gyms, golf clubs, ice rinks etc. Its tough as anything and you can score away on it with hardly any effect with a carpet knife which I use for weeding as well. Got it form a large carpet company we do vans for and its magic.
Not good for nice edges mind you as its not completely smooth. -
Thanks for the replies
Do you think ACM would do the job?

Its a classic case of customers problem becoming my problem.
I’ve no done my Xmas shopping yet lol and he wants it done before hand.
Motivation is its cash on completion!
If I made the plaques out of wood instead of foamex and painted them, could I glue the foam letters with bondloc b3294 plastic weld do you think?

nice one.
Didn’t have any boxes, so used the cardboard from AC board delivery.
Pre rolled it round a vinyl tube to give it shape and then wrapped it round the loosley rolled up pre taped paint mask.
Just managed to squeeze it all into some 300 mm lay flat tubing and plenty of parcel tape later I was in the post office que.

Hi Kevin
Just cut with CC using this version of cutting master on a graphtec.
http://downloads.graphtecgb.co.uk/softw … D_V194.zip
Hopefully it keeps working.
-
At the moment I’m using cs6 but want to reboot my computer from factory setting.
Am waiting for an adobe chat rep to talk to me.

I want to do a system restore and I’m worried I cant reinstall cs6 if/when I realise I cant use cutting master on it.
Pain in the back side, lol !

sent an email to the department of transport marked Urgent and they got back to me with more or less this:
"Vehicles used on the road must comply with the Road Vehicle (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 (C&U). However, vehicles must also be maintained so as not to be a danger and Regulation 100 of C&U requires that motor vehicles and their trailers shall at all times be in such condition that no danger is caused or is likely to be caused to any person on a road. "
Also goes on to describe digital signage on mobile adverts which wont apply to me in this case.

Ive got it and I’m not looking forward to the paying the full price as I have been on the first year price for nearly a year now.
I got an update to all the apps I currently have on my machine, illustrator cs6, photoshop cs6 and a few other this morning but curiously it also offered my a download of these again but now called illustrator cc and so on, which must stand for creative cloud but I wonder if there is any difference!

Think your right mate The old styleis Bodega is a bit different form the Bodega regular.

Phill I got an email from some company advertising ceramic signs!
Cant remember much about it but I know ceramics are extra durable and good with heat.
Sure if you googled it something would come up.
Just to add it wasnt hand painted arts and craft applications, more like London place name signs and monuments that sort of thing.
-
Got to bump this one its doing my head in.
-
Nice on Jamie!
Thank you.
-
Just got some 10mm thick flooring from a customer and first impressions are good.
Been cutting on it and it barely shows the marks, and its heavy, just sits there without moving.
It’s called ‘Blade Runner’ flooring and its used in gyms, locker rooms, ice-rinks and the likes.
Think it’s about 35 quid a linear metre which is better than 250 for 10 mm toughend glass which would have been first choice. -
Thanks Russell I think it’ll be the BICSc thing that will be difficult.

Is a good looking bit of work as well, bet you were happy with the first time you fitted.
I’d be well piยฃ$ed!
Redoing it I would think would be the least hassle in the long run though.
Do the suppliers keep copies of locator’s templates?
I’m trying to imagine the process of how they make these letters up?
Can they not just repeat the order?

You could identify the font using a web sire called ‘what the font’ but the shapes would have to be drawn with a vector editing programme like illustrator.

It doesn’t have to swing.
I was worried about one piece of composite fatiguing where it meets the brackets with movement in the wind but obviously it must be ok.

Its not something I would do as every job is different and I like to get as much as I think I can get away with each time.
Its a good habit to get into because it you feel your getting a little over the odds for something you tend to do a better job I find anyway.

quote Peter Normington:quote Hugh Potter:A new customer told me off for saying ‘including vat’ rather than ‘no vat’ recently but, still went ahead with the order! Hugh
Hugh, I hope you have not stated that in writing on your invoice or quotes.
if you have it is actually fraudulent, because your customers would expect to claim the vat back, if they try to, you could be in trouble mate.Peter
Drat! I must have did the same thing as Hugh a hundred times!
Anyway, to add my obviously under informed opinion I dont think it will affect me as most stuff I do is vinyl only so vat is minimal.
On a related point however: Do you think that someone non VAT like myself could benefit from advertising his non VAT registered status?
Would advertsing that attract or repel customers regardless of the VAT increase?
Would it attract or repel less or more customers with the VAT increase?James
