    Hello

Recently a repeat customer came to me explaining he was getting a new van and wanted the same livery as last time.

Last time it was a shinny black Berlingo and he likes it like that and so it was still well preserved and looking good.

The buyer of the old but well preserved van is friendly with him and in the same line of work so why not get myself to remove the old livery from the shinny black Belingo and replace with new owners livery.

    Guess what?

Its not looking like a shinny well preserved van anymore!

    Question is:

Where did I go wrong? Do I have to start explain that paint work finish cant be guaranteed after vinyl is used?

Usually its a selling point that vinyl lettering does no harm but in this case removal has smeared the shine on the paint.

What material was the vehicle wrapped in?
Was it a full wrap or part wrap?

Not a wrap Daniel just some chrome and some white vinyl.

More likely the rest of the paint has faded and the bit under where the vinyl was is still fresh…It should polish up ok

it could be vice-versa too.. have had it once where I removed vinyl.. it had been fitted at some point onto an everyday transporter camper van, then another owner had obviously had the paint all mopped up, so when I removed the stripes the paint under was as naff as the day it was covered up!

    !

I think this falls into the "obvious" category, and not at all your problem.
Once you explain it to him.

    Thanks Simon

Its not so much the paint work under the old vinyl as the loss in shine to the general area where the glue has been rubbed around with solvents.

Never been an issue on your standard white van but this was a well looked after black paint job and now I’m being held responsible for something that i’m thinking I’m going to have to protect myself from in future.

Who that does van graphics wants to start warning customers that there paint work will be dulled and they’ll have to have it polished when there trying to sell it on.

Not exactly a helpful selling point.

More and more van are coming out with car quality paint work.

A bit of T cut should fix it unless the clear laquer has come away?
