fixing signboard to inside of fence
Posted by James Martin on June 27, 2019 at 4:30 pmHello
I have to fit a 7 by 4 to the inside of a fence similar to this with the graphics facing out through the wire.
At first I thought about the fence fix types but the would mean the cream coloured back of the clips being on the front.
Anyone got any ideas or methods for this?

Thanks Neil
Why didnt I think of that?
Have you used theses clips? Would they hold a large 7 by 4 size Ali comp?

No, I haven’t used these so couldn’t say. I suppose it depends on how many you use and if you have the composite sheet mounted on backing channels/battens. Windage will probably be your main enemy.

Use these all the time James. Would hold that size no problem. Nice neat finish if spaced correctly. I always use the horizontal bars to hold the weight of the sign to stop it slipping down. You’ve also the option to cut the excess bolt out for a neater finish if you like and add a lock nut for extra security.

1. Drill a hole in the sign
2. Feed in a cable tie from the back, carry it on round a strand of the fence, and back through the hole in the sign.
3. Place a short length of steel rod over the hole, and tighten the cable tie round the rod.
4. Repeat. -

If you use any sort of bracket at the front of the sign you will obscure even more of the sign face than what the fence is already doing. similar to "Simons suggestion" but drill 2 holes side by side and use a heavy duty tie-it from Screwfix…
feed through from the back, out the face, around the fence and back in the second hole and secure.
wait till all ties are in place and crank them in progressively until secure. then cut the end of the tie away.
this is the best way to have hidden fixings. if its long term then using wire and do the same, but once through to the rear, overlap the wire and twist with pliers.
you will need about 6 fixing points minimum, depending on the size of the sign.
ideally, proper fixing rails and clips should be used, but this isn’t going to happen if you have the sign inside the fence facing out.
alternatively, posts, channel and clips on a sign fixed into the ground behind the fence. -
Thanks Rob
Bought some ss cable ties today because 1 of the signs is on a fence on the street and was worried someone might cut them. Haven’t used these before so everyday is a school day. -
Sorry James for some reason I missed the bit at the start stating the graphics were to face out! Fence clips would definately obscure the sign so heavy duty cable ties it is 🙂
