    Not sure if this is the correct forum, but is to do with pricing.

    I am going through a quiet spell, and am tweaking the web site we have.

    Looking at other sign and print companies I see not many have prices on their pages, for things like posters, banners, etc where there’s very few variables.

    Do you price on line, or just advertise your services.

    I currently do the FROM £00.00, so it’s open to interpretation and should weed out the time wasters.

    I wonder whether putting prices on will entice a buyer – lazy, don’t need to ring for a price, or whether it will scare them off, thinking thats expensive?

    Hell to the naw.
    "Starting at xxx" would be the best I would do, but that is like an open door for some cowboy to start at $20 lower.
    My website says "I am not the cheapest shop in town".

    Its not something I would do as every job is different and I like to get as much as I think I can get away with each time.

    Its a good habit to get into because it you feel your getting a little over the odds for something you tend to do a better job I find anyway.

    I sell some stuff on my web site like safety signs and wheel covers, also I do standard prices for banners and labels per meter… I get work from it, again I’m not the cheapest in town but put the emphasis on quality rather than price. I also have stuff on a well know auction site, but again I price the same as my web site and I’m up to 3 times higher priced than most, but I still get work and plenty of enquiries.

    As an example, I sell framed canvas prints online for around £60 each, there are people selling the same size canvas for around £20 and their items appear right next to mine, yet I still get orders (10-15 a week)

    I wouldn’t worry about what anyone else is charging as long as its relevant to your business and your making enough money out of it (obviously don’t cut your own nose off etc)..

    My philosophy is this, if your expensive and the person next door is really cheap, there are customers out there who would rather spend the extra to get a better quality product, that’s how the designer people view things. And you only have to produce one sale to make the same money as mr cheapos 1 sale with less work.

    I think having prices attracts customers, and probably the right customers… I don’t think you have anything to lose.
