    Hello

Have a customer that has went and got a unique colour paint mixed for the front of his shop.

Now the paint is waterbased and I have to use it to paint forex plaques.

I’ve had a test and its peeling off.

I’ve done a bit of research and now know that it should be ‘two component polyurethane enamel paint’ but I have to use the waterbased stuff supplied to acheive a colour match.

Anyone know of a primer that will marry the waterbased paint to the pvc forex under exterior conditions?

you could try Melamine primer it etches in to the surface don’t know about its outdoor durability though, or look for a upvc gutter paint that you could use as a first coat then cover with the water based paint. B&Q do a gutter paint but think only in black but sticks to foamex well and with stands UV had some outdoors for the last year or so still looks good

Maybe you could get a screen ink matched close enough?

This is also the way I’ve painted foam sheet in the past which seems to work well. The other possibility, dependent on size would be to print the graphics and background colour.

    thanks every one

Its a classic case of customers problem becoming my problem.

I’ve no done my Xmas shopping yet lol and he wants it done before hand.

Motivation is its cash on completion!

If I made the plaques out of wood instead of foamex and painted them, could I glue the foam letters with bondloc b3294 plastic weld do you think?

Automotive suppliers or vehicle sprayers use a clear primer when painting plastic panels and trim. I’ve used it in the past but can’t remember exactly what I put on top of it. It worked for us but I suspect it was oil based top cot. Your water based will probably be acrylic, and I really couldn’t say if it would adhere or not. If you have one of these body shops nearby, may be worth checking with them.

The Bondblock idea may work but the wood/acrylic board may not stand up well to weathering. If you go ahead with the wood plan, I would give the board at least a couple of coats of oil based wood primer and seal well all around the edges, and then depending on build, the acrylic on top.
