I second that..
Get the owners to make good the wooden fascia behind as I have found that over the years one sign on top of another gets fixed to an aging and very dangerous facia.
I currently have a similar job running but the facia is 44 Metres long and hasn’t been looked at for 30 years or more.SC
-
Many many years ago were I worked was asked to quote to do Eddie Stobarts wagons (before they were a complete wrap).
After lettering 2off them we were told the costs of what they were getting them lettered for.
It turned out we couldn’t buy the vinyl (it was all cast special colours) only (No weeding time, application tape or application costs) for what they were been charged for these.
Some jobs can be so big, you make no money on them!SC

You could also try The Vinyl Corporation in Nottingham, they have never let us down in 15 years

We dont normally work at weekends either, so if there is a job that can "only" be done at the weekend, we have to pay Saturday overtime wages, so we increase the price accordingly + a little extra. After doing this, you will find out soon enough if your customer really can only get it done at the weekend or if they say "eeerrr well i could probably get it to you one day during the week"

One thing we have noticed when we prepare our vans for a wrap is, that after using the 3m surface prep, the vehicle still feels greasy. This is due to the 3m surface prep not "drying" properly, and if you look on the surface of where you have wiped, you will see that it still looks wet. We now dry the vehicle with a hot air torch after wiping to make sure the 3m surface prep has dried out properly. I don’t know if this is why your vinyl is lifting or not but thought i would pass on the information anyway

I use gloves when handling media and keep it covered by the plastic wrapper it comes in, when not in use. That prevents the media getting contaminated in the first place

Im addicted to looking at everone elses signage, vans, banners etc and always have something to say on them all. You are correct Hugh, however more often than not its down to the customers budget. Most people want "something smart, eye catching, colourful, modern, it has to stand out and different to what everyone else has but has to be cheap as possible!!! Sorry but all of what was mentioned above does not come cheap or not as cheap as the customers think it should cost. And even then they still want to know how we can make it cheaper still.

MemberJune 4, 2014 at 10:01 am in reply to: Outstanding debt, Board Member, Name and shame? We are all in the same game here and know the score. Its bad enough having this issue with customers never mind with a fellow member. And the fact you have been chasing them for 3 months and they have also blocked your number, indicates they are hiding. I don’t think you should name and shame but on the other hand i wouldn’t like to get "stung" by the same member, the threat would be enough for me to pay if i was that "fellow member". If they still dont pay, a debt recovery company is the only option. Like you say, "its not not going to make me rich nor him poor" but the principle of it
-
It certainly is, we got sent one by them 😮 ( by mistake of course) but we decided to follow up and find out how much that sort of thing would cost
-
We also use a local solicitor, he charges £6 to send a warning letter and 9 times out of 10, customers pay their bill soon after. Works for us
-
+1 for 3M Surface cleaner – We were having all sort of problems when we got into wrapping until we changed our vehicle prep to this stuff, the problems disappeared 😉
-
Good point Phil, most customers that come into our shop are under the impression that wrapping is far cheaper that getting a respray. In all truth when we done our wrap course we were told it was a cheaper alternative to a quality paint job. However the reality is, there are so many spray shops round here spraying full vehicles for £500 – £1000, wrapping is no longer (if it ever was) a cheaper alternative to getting a vehicle sprayed. However you only get what you pay for and im sure you would be able to tell the difference between a £500 spray job and a £2000 spray job 😀

Im trying to morph the picture onto the console & control pads with the cut holes at an angle.
Probably really simple to do but as i dont do much designing, its working out quite a struggle

Have you tried running a strong head clean? (bottom right hand button on the control interface)

im sure Xpress do them

What is the test print like?
-
That’s the problem and probably where you will be getting your dust from. MDF sheets are no good for any type of vinyl application jobs as every time you score on the sheet loads of dust/wood will get thrown up. Buy yourself a self healing mat and you wont get a fraction of the dust. Yes acrylic is a pain and but if there’s 3 different layers of vinyl going on, its going to be hard to avoid getting dust under it if your doing it on a sheet of MDF

…..means….
…..Nothing at all!!!…
….and as a friend/mate you’ll do it for nothing.
Ask them do they have £5000, £500 or £50 in mind.
Otherwise run away from this potential job as you will find he is trying to play you and the other sign makers at the same game, and the only one who will be in pocket is him!
I mean does this customer not know how much is in their pocket?
-
I’m sure you aren’t the first and won’t be the last 😀

Funnily enough, i had a phone call from Clarity this morning to see if i had time to play about with the demo i had downloaded (which i hadn’t, i completely forgot all about it) I told him that i hadn’t and then he offered to go through it with me, show me the features and have a click about really. Im sure he said they have brought out a Clarity Light version, with less modules on. So i am going to have a play

Denise, i was just looking at this laminator again, does it have a take-up reel or another roll for the backing paper to roll onto? I cant tell from the pics
Thanks
-
I suppose, im the only one in here that complains about the silvering, maybe im just too fussy, and yes, it does go after time.
Mind you, it does seem a good price (we priced up the easymount a couple of weeks ago) but like you have asked, it would be nice to get some feedback from someone who has purchased one
-
Hi Jean, we are kind of in the same boat. At the moment we have a 1400 wide cold laminator, however we are looking towards a 1600 hot roll laminator as the prints tend to silver (its worse at winter). I dont know if you have this issue with your smaller laminator, but i would recommend a hot roll
And yes, the price is a bit of a stumbling block at the moment
-
Looks great John! We were thinking of putting some in ours, think my mind has been made up now 😀
-
Be weary of the really cheap ones tho, as they tend to rust!!! make sure they are 100% brass, as when they do start to rust, the rusty residue then goes onto your banner
-
Its called a Slat Sign

MemberNovember 25, 2013 at 11:56 am in reply to: How to fit a tray sign directly above a roller shutter boxYes well we were going to fix top, bottom and sides. The supplier that we got the tray sign from said that fixing it from the top and sides should be sufficient but…. it can get a little windy where its going. We might double side tape the bottom of the tray sign to the top of the shutter box, you would never know as the sign is sitting on there anyway. It is a composite so there not that much weight in it i suppose

£1134.74 , that was the motherboard for our 1604, not sure if the 1204 is the exact same or not
-
I was as surprised as you are Chris. We were just about to purchase from Digiprint when someone suggested Spandex. We actually bought a motherboard, CR cables and a print head as the engineer would not come unless we had all three parts. And what was even better was that Spandex would allow us to return any parts we didn’t need (which no other parts supplier would do) which worked out great as we didn’t need the motherboard in the end 😀
-
Try Spandex, our main board went back in January, it arrived the next day, and was surprisingly cheaper than our usual Mutoh parts suppliers

+1 for Signlab 🙂
-
Yes, i agree, as nobody ever wants to trim on the vehicle and as you say, for a one off, its not worth the time and all template cuts and so on. I think Impact vehicle outlines are great, they have helped us and many signmakers over the years, and the fact if you dont have an outline, they will do their best to send one over. However, it would be fantastic if the vehicles were 100% to scale (i know this would not be possible due to curvatures on vehicles) and you could just take the panel (you want to flood coat) and just send it to cut and it would fit perfectly
