Posted by David McDonald on May 29, 2006 at 5:38 pm

    Hi All

A friend popped into the shop the other day asking if I could put a small england flag on each wing mirror if he left the car with me whilst he was at work. Did this for him instead – he was a little shocked but loves it, his wife won’t let him keep it on the drive though !!

    Cheers
    Macky

Not sure if that would go down too well in our area. 😮

Great idea…something nice and different. Those window flags look rough after a while.

I have to laugh though. The company in the unit next door to me have been given promotional material (that effectively suports England) to pass onto their customers. Don’t they realise everyone in Scotland is rooting for Germany to beat England in the finals 😛

    …Germany? Don’t you mean ANYONE Phill? :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

    Only Kidding! 😉

The only problem with England is that they expect to win, that makes it tougher when you don’t! Take a leaf out of our book, pretend your team is sh1t (in our case we don’t need to pretend) and that you dont expect to win any games…. then it’s a great celebration when you do! You’ll enjoy it all the more. That’s why the Tartan Army are such a happy bunch 😀

    I hope England do well.

In everything other than sport, i regard England as cousins and close friends and allies. In sport, i like to see the "Auld Enemy" suffer for no other reason than a bit of light hearted sporting rivarly.

This time, however, i`m actually rooting for England for some inexplicable reason.

    C`mon England.

p.s. The BBC polled the people of Scotland last week and 67% voted that they`d support England.

I sometimes cringe with embarassment at the "Braveheart" brigade and their anti-English diatribe. The way Mel Gibson has re-wrote Scottish history is as cringeworthy as the half-wit new "nationalists" who think it`s patriotic to paint their faces blue and white and verbally assault anyone with an English accent.

Thank god they are so few, their numbers are in line with their average IQ…..all 37 of them.

Just last week we had a leading Scottish Parliamentarian (SNP) 🙄 claiming that the BBC`s choice of world cup theme, Handel`s "Hail the conquering hero comes", is offensive to Scottish people as it was created in celebration of the Battle of Culloden. Yes thats right, an SNP MSP who actually thinks, and preaches, that Culloden was England V Scotland !!

Such is their desperation to be hear, they just make it up as they go along.

So, on behalf of 67% of us Jocks, we wish you the best of luck in Germany.

My vocabulary is limited m8 but does Shadenfreude mean something like laughing at other people`s misfortunes?…or something?. Could be completely wrong 😀

If youre suggesting i`ll laugh if England get humped 5-0 by Trinidad and Tobago then i can`t really deny it 🙂

I remember thinking France were dead certs for the 2002 WC, how spectacularly wrong i was. 😀

The easy option is going for Brazil but after watching Greece winning the 2004 European Championships, i`m a firm beleiver in thinking anything can happen.

I think the Czech republic will do well.

I’m just waiting for the "and the whole of this fantastic British team is mourning this narrow loss, missing out on victory by only 5 goals in the first game….."we was robbed""

No, I’m not being racist, or even patriotic. I just can’t wait for the excessive coverage in the media to be over, and it’s not even balanced. I can see a national day of mourning being announced, a two minute silence and tiny little red flowers being pinned to jackets as a memorial…..oh, wait, they already do that for something. (:)

    ‘Rant’ over!! 😉

    edited to add:

Really nice job on the car, no wonder he was surprised.

Not into football in the slightest though so I’m really sick of it by now, the Isle of man TT is on now though so I’ll be watching Men & motors for the next 2 weeks.

I know or care nothing about football but shouldn’t the best team win or is that politically incorrect 🙄

P.S. have you got a team on the far side of the border 😛 in the place where the heather and deep fried mars bars come from 😛

Well I reckon that in 1966 the ball never crossed the line and England was wrongly awarded a goal. 😛

The Germans were so despondant at this decision that they effectively gave up at this point. OK so maybe Geoff Hurst went on to score another goal seconds away from the final whistle which put the icing on the cake 🙄 . However, If that "borderline" goal had never been allowed Uwe Seeler or Franz Beckenbaur would surely have put one past that old Crock Gordon Banks even though he still had two good eyes back in those days 😕 😳

Germany wuz robbed in 1966 😛

As you know Lynn – I have an opinion on almost anything 🙄 :lol1:

The problem with Scotlands international team is that in the Scottish premier league the majority of players playing for the big clubs are all foreigners. Why don’t Scottish clubs nuture home grown talent? If they did then perhaps some local talent would rise to the top. As it is now, the clubs prefer to "buy" established players in order to win games.

Scotland is football daft – but the powers that be have failed the Scottish people in nurturing home grown talent.

I agree with Rod – there is a lot of Racist nonsense (and even worse – religous bigotry)in Scottish football which is why I choose to mock the subject.

My Father was English, and my Mother is German so I really don’t have any particular leaning towards any nation – I just enjoy the absurdity of it all 😉

Aussies will win it surely 😮 Even tho I don’t think there is an australian surname amongst them, and they play for every other country in the world except australia, and they have a foreign coach… they must be in with a chance. 😕

I think soccer is a stupid game anyway 😎 A team plays for over an hour, and the game can be decided by one team against a goal keeper in a penalty shootout. How is that a team sport?

And now they have even made the ball ‘predictable’ … no fun in that!

Are the Koreans in this year? Now there was a team back in the ’60s. They still talk about them in italy 😛

Phil – maybe you’ve got to ask the question why Scotish football is inundated with foreigners.

I’m sure there is plenty of work going on at grassroots level to nurture the young talent – but if it aint good enough it aint good enough :lol1:

Our household is an English – Scottish mix, me (Susan) is Scottish & Garrie + our 2 cats are Geordie’s.
However on Saturday all 4 of us were rooting on England to do well, good sporting spirit and all that. I actually wanted us to get some wee England flags cut for the windows but there’s some folks that just take the ‘hatred’ a bit too far and would prob’s end up smashing our windows!!

To be honest I’m fed up of people expecting me to want anyone bar England to do well, it’s unreal how many Scot’s I’ve spoken to recently are wanting England to do badly.

    Come on Engerland….. 😀

It’s the old story of money talks – In reality there are only two teams that have ever been succesfull in Scotland – Celtic and Rangers. Years ago they were full of Scottish players but nowadays there are very few Scots that are in the squads for these teams . Similarly for Livingston (a 3rd rate, almost bankrupt but relatively succesfull local team) and Hearts (an Edinburgh team).

My Son is football daft and plays for a local youth team and is much more knowleable about footballl than I am. He tells me Iran have qualified (because they are an African Nation) and USA have qualified (even though no one in America gives a toss) so I really am totally perplexed as to why Scotland (who are more deserving a nation than Iran and USA or even, god forbid, Trinidad and Tobago) can not even qualify for the finals.

Just as well I am not in the least bit interested in football 🙄

Our Hiddink helped Korea to the half finals, so the final should be possible for you guys I guess.
Against Holland that would be great!
