• Hourly Rate

    Hey All,

We’ve just been asked to fit some graphics for a client, the graphics are already produced and just need fitting.

They want to know our hourly rate, this is not something I’ve come across as usually we supply and fit the graphics, not fit already supplied graphics and we are new to this.

What would you guys normally charge for this, would you also include traveling time to and from the job?

    Thanks in advance.

Yeap…. you certainly include your travelling time. I’d charge £30 per hour especially when you’re not supplying the graphics.

i usually work t a minimum of £20 ph for such things as removing old signs, decals etc,

i’d be sure to point out that since you didnt make or supply the graphics, and therefore do not know what they’re made from, that you can’t be held to account for anything other than the initial quality of application.

i’ve no idea what you’re being asked to fit, but in my experience it often something the customer has bought for 3p on ebay, therfore the quality of vinyl is often questionable !

    On the rare occasions I have to give houly rates I’m £25 p/h if it’s my stuff I’m fitting – £30 if not…or it’s a crappy/fiddly job (van stripping).
That’s for the first person – I usually knock 50% off the charge rates of any other fitters on site at the same time eg 2 @ £45p/h. 3 @ £60p/h.

    I also charge travel at £25p/h if it’s more than 25 miles, £20 if it’s 10 to 25miles.

    good advice here.

I’m always reluctant to fit someone elses graphic.

You have no control if it is crap material, the client will still expect it to look good. Also, usually it has been stored wrong, or can be eons old. And if you stuff it, who is going to pay for another one to be made?

If it fails down the line, they’ll expect it was incorrect fitting and blame you.

As Hugh says, make it clear that you take no responsibilty for the sticker or its warranty. You are just fitting. Cover your back, because clients have selective memory if and when it fails.

    cheers

    😳 I charge £60 PH.

Main dealers get away with £80+ PH & the apprentice services your car.

Never undersell yourself, or the sign trade. I’ve a strong opinion, that for the skilled work we do, compared to other companys, we collectively charge too little.

    Cheers,

    Gwaredd.

the rate you charge is not important. if you charge £60ph but only make a tenner profit after overheads, and tax etc it is better to charge £30ph and make £11 quid profit.

As a business you need to set the rate to suit you, after taking into account all the variables. You cant really compare your average sign shop with a main car dealer for example. a large firm has the ability to cope with large contracts, but smaller firms with less overheads can charge less and make a good living.

I recently bought a new central heating boiler, the price quoted from british gas was £3600 a local firm quoted £2300 and also replaced the cistern, tcvs and other stuff.
Who do you think I chose?

You cannot base your hourly rate on the overheads of someone elses business. That may not only prove costly but abit "unbusiness like".

You guys are going to love this wee program, and I thinks its free.

Everybody has thier own skill level, overheads etc etc. so why take a chance.

There is also a Job Timer Utility on their website.

Try it and see what you think.

    Hiya Garrie,
I agree with Karl, Download the ProfitWatch software. The EstiMate program is great too 🙂
My retail graphic installation price can be as low as $1.15 sq. ft. for vinyl application on a clean, smooth and flat surface. But, it would have to be a fairly large job. Tapes, cleaners and rags are additional, normally $10-$25 per vehicle.
I charge $1.50 per mile (in one direction) to cover travel time and expenses. Tolls and parking are additional.
If the client supplies the graphics, I also charge $5.00 per 32 gallon bag for trash removal of the client supplied graphic waste.
Any job that takes me away from my shop has a $150 minimum charge.
