I had the same problem when we 1st installed X5.

Our problem was caused because we had 12 & X3 installed. once we’d uninstalled them and then reinstalled corel it all worked great!

I am having the same trouble with not been able to see the thumbnail of PDF’s which is abit of a pain. only started once acobat reader X was installed.

Gary that is just what i did, turned it over stuck in back in and away it went.

i contacted the guy we got the machine from about getting a replacement strip and he reckons it will be about £180+VAT for a new strip, is that right? seems a lot for a printed strip of plastic.

Thanks for everyone’s advise, I’d be bold if you guys and gals weren’t here!

I’ve had one side out to slide it back between the sensor because it fell out while i was cleaning it and there is 1 screw at the other end so i think it would be pretty easy to swap.

I didn’t notice it hadn’t in the middle of the printer and only noticed when it came to a halt. =(

I use MDP Hot Flex all the time and and you mirror cut the graphic, then when you’ve taken the waste away the clear backing becomes your mask. (see attached)

If your doing multiple colors you have to press each color on its own and build it up in layers.

i know where the printer is, i use the guy that owns it all the time for my printing work. I’ve used the machine myself when he’s been busy, and to me it seems fine.

I work for a builder merchant full time doing all there internal signage and marketing and use the Roland version of the machine, and it seems to run just as well as the Roland.

Main thing i was worrying about was the value he set for the machine, we was talking machines and he said he wanted to go bigger and said if i gave him 5k i could have his old one. I just don’t know if its worth 5k.

I know it prints alright and runs fine because i’ve used it myself, he’s only selling it because he’s wanting a bigger one and because its braking down all time.

The white cable wasn’t the problem it was the clear protective strip that was the problem. It has a slight kink in it, i took the kink out and we was all go again.

We had the ‘right pos error’ and ‘pinch roll error’ problem last year and had it all changed, i was surprised we had another so close to having it fixed.

why don’ t you screw the foamex to the frame and mount your graphic to the foamex?

if you are going to use contact adhesive then don’t use pink grip because it melt’s foamex, i’d use stixall. we used it here to mount some dressed stone to chip board on some display houses we made for the Yorkshire show, they were then transported on the back of a low loader up to harrogate with all stones still in place!

Yeah i’ve managed to sort it now and we are back printing!

the protection ribbon seems to have a small kink in it that was stopping it moving as normal and was causing the jam, i’ve just straightened out the kink and we are going good!

  • Thanks for your help guys! Got the job finished a couple of week ago. Thought I’d let you see the results!

I chose the color’s while designing the logo and i don’t have a reference book.

The CMYK values are as followed
    Light Purple: 31.78.0.0
    Dark Purple: 44.100.4.20

I don’t know if this will help, normally when picking i vinyl i just look at my metamark color swash.

I don’t have the option of printing and laminating because i don’t have a printer or a laminator. i might have to try and talk the customer into using gloss.

Sorry should of said to start with, its just for fitting to composite for a sign and maybe some glass.

    Pantone’s:
    674, 512.

(that’s if i done it right, i was not sure which pallet to select, there is more then i know what to do with in Corel)

  • so since my last post I’ve looked into it and i think I’m going to use Graficast colored sign vinyl. will this need to be laminated? I guess it will need to be.

If anyone thinks I’ve made a bad choice please let me know, any advise will be greatly received. 😀

This has been an interesting read!

Currently I work for a building suppliers in their sign department and I’m not enjoying it. The company is started been taken over by the next generation who seem to be making one bad decision after another. Back in January I started my own sign company to make some extra money in my own time, like these things do its grown and it taking up pretty much all my spare time.

So my mind has been wondering about going it alone, but I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get enough work to pay the bills (I’m sure this is a worry many of you has had on here). A supplier I use was saying he’s thinking about taking someone on but he didn’t want to take them on full time. So I’ve been thinking about going to him with a proposal of me working for him self employed with a fixed hourly rate when he needs me and working for myself when I’m not working with him.

Is this something you guys would think about if someone came to you with this type of offer?

Tried them and Green magic and nether are coming up with anything. might phone Asda (where the picture was taken) and ask them where they got them from. for the amount i need I’d happily buy them off Asda! =D

  • if I’m understanding right the panels are not joining together with a 3/4mm gap between them? if so it could be the magnetic strip on the back of the panels. I made one earlier this year and metamark supplied me with the wrong type of magnetic strip.

if i remember correctly we was sent T-MV12-A but we needed T-MV12-B which has a grove down the middle.

i could be off the mark but its worth a mention.

yeah its for the top dark board its going on. i don’t think the customer wants to use tape, reason he doesn’t want to stick the graphics’s on the black header board’s that are already there is because they’ve done it before and it marked the boards once the graphics’s has been moved and then painted (not sure about the painted but)

where would I get one from? i was thinking about posting asking for advise on pricing, because i just haven’t got a clue about working out prices. I’ve been making signs for years but when its for a private company you just get the cost as low as you can. I don’t want to be doing work to cheap and upset any other sign places in my area.

I’ve had the same problem, with large EPS files.

I normally make a JPG print file (without cut contour), then make a separate EPS file will all the cut contour’s in (without any design work).

Then set them up in the same way in versa works, using the JPG as print only and the EPS as a cut only.

RE, Withheld Number: I’ve spoken to our IT department who look after our phone system and there is nothing we can do to change it, it’s just company policy. I can see why because if you was to phone us back on that number you’d struggle to get the person who phoned you in the first place, because we have about 200 people working on this site.
