Advice on sourcing Sign Trays please?
Posted by Michael Winfield on March 15, 2011 at 10:03 amcan anyone tell me where to get aluminum sign tray’s from?
I normally use Blackburn’s in Leeds but i feel they are pulling my pants down on price, so just wanted to get a couple of other quotes to do a comparison.

Hi Michael,
Have used Ashby’s in the past for these – they can powdercoat as required.
Maybe not the cheapest perhaps (which may not help…) but good quality and service.

Martin, Ashby seem a bit far away but thanks anyway.
Peter, I’ve tried phoning traysigns.co.uk but I’m sure they don’t like getting business because when i phone it doesn’t accept calls from withheld numbers. If i could take the withheld off i would but its down to the IT support team! ha

I would have a look on the toolbar Michael, must be a few suppliers on there. As for the withheld number you might not be doing yourself any favours, I know loads of people including myself who won’t answer a call if the number is with held so maybe your customers are the same.

Have to agree with Martin, 9 out of 10 withheld calls are canvassers or timewasters. I don’t ever answer them.
Perhaps they think the same way? -
Peter, it wasn’t just suppliers I was thinking about, I wonder how many of their customers won’t answer the phone to them. Maybe more than they think.

Thanks Guy’s, i ended up getting in touch with Leeds City Council who seem to have come up trumps.
RE, Withheld Number: I’ve spoken to our IT department who look after our phone system and there is nothing we can do to change it, it’s just company policy. I can see why because if you was to phone us back on that number you’d struggle to get the person who phoned you in the first place, because we have about 200 people working on this site.

Leeds City Council supply sign trays 😮

buying from your council is only taking money out your own pocket.
councils have added their own sign divisions, lots of them, and have been for many years. but many shut down again. the one near to us did.how many folk have supplied banners, signs etc for customers. the customers put them on roundabouts, lamp posts and so on…
the council goes round taking them down. fine, "i think" they can be, and in most cases are unsightly. but anyway…. down they come. thousands of pounds of fines impossed. their main excuse is distraction to drivers going round the roundabout, trying to read them…. fair enough!
i do not know about down south, but in central belt of scotland, all the roundabouts now have 4 "or more" 3ft x 1.5ft panel and post signs on "each roundabout" with adverts on them for local businesses. the fee per year is upto £5000 "per advert, per sign" so £20k per year for a single roundabout advert.you will also see that "illuminated" lamp post signage is now allowed?
hypocrits or what… they now also sell signage to the public and more…
my view is, i think they get enough out of everyone without now targeting "our" lively hood…anyway… i am all for "standards being set" for certain signs, even planning permission. but for a zero tolerance attitude in the name of health and safety, large fines imposed. then for them to go out and do same, setting up companies in competition to us, just stinks!
anyway, ill gather my toys back up and get back in my pram now. 😉 :lol1:
