  • A-frames Pricing Help needed please?

Posted by Michael Winfield on December 6, 2011 at 8:46 am

    Good Morning Guys,

I’ve done 3 A frames for my best customer. The frames are 870x1220mm and needed covering in white vinyl to hide older graphics with black text on. They needed them doing ASAP, so I collected them about 5.30 last night and I dropped them off about 7.30 this morning.

Now i’m not sure how much to charge for them, I was up while 2 this morning doing them because the last thing they said to me as i was leaving was ‘we need them for tomorrow’.

I don’t want to charge to much and hack them off because i need the repeat business from them.

    Any ideas?

and if non of this makes sense i am sorry i’m very tired after a long night 😀

charge them what yu need to charge them for doing the job in normal hours, then add 20% for working out of hours to do them, they’ll understand that you’ve gone way out of your way (we’ve all done it at some point).

if you do not make it clear that you charge +20% for out of hours work / very short notice work, then they’ll expect it all the time. I dumped three customers this year who had been like that for over two years, I thought they were good customers but you try telling them "it’s gonna ost more because" and they huff about it, not the sort of customers you need, get your sleep and do more profitable work with a clear head in the daytime – nless of course they’re paying for your trouble.

Like Hugh has already said charge them your normal rate plus what ever you think reasonable for working outside of normal hours. You should really have said something when you collected them, either it would not be possible for them to get them back that quickly or yes I can do them but I am going to have to charge x amount more for working through the night. It’s then their call what to do, pay the extra and get them early or wait till they are ready and pay the normal rate.
I am sure they would charge extra for working outwith their normal hours so why shouldn’t you??

Question is are they really a good customer or do they just use you because you do as they tell you ?? Sorry if that sounds harsh but I’ve been there & done that.

Charge a rush fee of $25 minimum.
Sounds like it would have been an easier job to make new signs rather than polish their old turds, I often charge more for a refurb because it’s more of a PITA.

WOW, I don`t work until 2am unless its for a gold pig.

We would charge approx £25-£35 a side, add the costs of any glue remover etc.

then add £60 for working until "stupid O`clock"

TBH, you should have told him the price before hand.

I should of agreed a price before i took the frames. I’m sure they won’t have to much of a problem with what ever I invoice them with, but i just don’t want them thinking i’m robbing them.

thanks for the advise guys, i’ll let you know how i get on.

You do realise of course that you’ve got the arrows pointing the wrong way 😉

Maybe he’s done what I sometimes do and put magnetic arrows on so the customer can place the boards where ever they like :lol1: :lol1:
