Not really thinking it’s the cable Martin, think it maybe the firmware, i’m thinking the cable could be faulty and not letting me upgrade, just a thought?
The printer was running perfectly up until the other day and then the lines appeared.

Hello everyone, thanks for the info guys but no luck, i’m going to buy a new parallel cable and see if that helps.
No luck in updating the firmware, just keeps beeping 6 times, hopefully new cable might sort it.

I’ve done windows bigger with a basic sprayer and all was good, make sure you use a nice felt squeegee, i use one about 6 inches wide, does the job in double quick time, does your etch have a design cut in them? if not it will go on in breeze.

Rob is right about the colour fade if it is in a window, however, you can get A4 sheets of printable white vinyl, matt or gloss. Mainly used for model making stickers/decals. I have used it for stickers etc. using a Canon home printer.

How long would the print last on a vehicle? I have an old designjet 450c and was going to try out some of the inkjet printable vinyl, i’m only using it for small posters for my in-laws pub at the moment.

Have a look at the link above. The stuff has great reviews and they do a UV spray top coat as well. They have a pack of 5 A4 sheets for less than a fiver so it’s worth a try. They have a BOGOF on 20 sheets so 40 for £20.

Just ordered a pack of 5, i’ll let you know how i get on.

I’m soon to install the following 3 elements to a Pizza house – see photoshop visual – ( window frosting, opening hours and a finest pizza graphic. These will all be fitted internally looking out.

This will be my fist attempt at frosting. In your opinion should they all be fitted wet? Any tips for the frosting?

    Many thanks,

If that was me i’d fit all the etch wet with Rapid Tac (or similar) and all the rest dry, do the etch first and by time you’ve finished the rest you’ll be able to remove the app tape from the etch.

I’d assign the job back to the owner of the van, removing reflective is the worst job going, whenever i fit reflective now i’ll always put a layer of cheap 3yr vinyl on the van first and then the reflective on top, saves a lot of time when it comes to removal.

    quote Martin:

Nicholas, I wasn’t having a go at you with the first post but having read through the whole post again it seems like your not listening to the advice that’s being given to you.

You stuck up a picture, ok good start but then John asked for a design brief, so what do you ask your customers when you sit down with them if you have to design something, sorry quirky, modern & eye catching doesn’t really cut it.

You have had some designs people have kindly done for you & someone mentioned no feed back on them so OK maybe it’s not what you are looking for but people are not mind readers, what don’t you like about them? What do you like about them? Maybe there is a design already done that you like but feel just isn’t quite right, wrong font maybe or not the colours you would use or even like.

So try putting up a full design brief of what you are looking for, if your not sure what you should be asking then ask, you never know it might help you in the future to do better designs for your own customers. Take the time to look over the designs that have been posted already & thank those that have taken the time to reply. At the same time let people know what you like & are not happy with about them.

Couldn’t have put it better myself.

Martin I understand what your saying and I have read through them but it still doesn’t help me. I cant come up with anything that I like. This is the part of this job i don’t like (designing for yourself)!!!

Another reason why people won’t want to help is that you don’t bother even giving feedback on the ones that have been done for you, i.e Harvey has had a go twice and i had a small go but no feedback whatsoever? 🙁
And not forgetting Jill’s very good advice.

A mess indeed. Personally I wouldn’t cover/box in the vents. Possible problems with trapping steam or chemical vapour – possible ingress back into the building causing damp/mould/rot in future, exposing you to a claim for damage etc.

I’d say, tidy up the cables. Paint around the vents in a med/dark gray generally matching the shade of the vents each end of the fascia leaving the central section (as in current use) for the signage. Could make a lot better use of that big window for display though.

I’d do what Neil says, i’d work between the vents and just tidy the rest up, by the state of the frontage and the sign they’ve got now it looks like they won’t want to spend too much 🙂

Hi Peter, i use Vector Magic, can’t you post the image on here to see if anyone can do it for you, i’ll put it through Vector Magic and see if the results are any good for you?

    Thanks Glen
but it is quite confidential at this time so would prefer not to do that.

    Peter

Ok Peter, no probs, just to let you know though, i think they do a 30 day trial of Vector Magic, maybe worth a try?

If the back window doesn’t have a wiper i fit on the outside just because the colours look alot more vivid but if you do an internal fit the heating elements don’t normally effect them.

You first asked where to get the posts from? i only replied mate, if you do your boards for estate agents and they want them painting then fair enough, i was only saying i couldn’t see the point in it, i do all mine for the private seller, if i painted all posts and charged them an extra tenner they’d go bananas.
All finished now, rant over. 🙂

If I was selling my house I wouldn’t be happy with a tatty bit of timber stuck in the garden…..I would like to think the sign was clean and tidy and reflected well on my property as well the Estate Agent

Who said i do them on a "tatty bit of timber"? i do them on a 2×2 pse 8ft timber stake, if you know what pse means mate, i’m also a joiner and i don’t do things "tatty". 👿

It’s a £40 sign on a wooden stick you put in your front garden, my god, every time i give my customers a "for sale" board they are more than happy mate.
Why is it the same principle? it’s not like it’s a £300 sign, it’s a for sale board, plain and simple, it’s only going to be in the garden 6 months max, none of my customers have complained and always come back for more. 😀
Why not gold leaf it 😀

Why bother painting or spraying for the sake of a sign post 😮 can’t see the point to be honest, i just supply then they can do what they want with them, they’ll only rot if the house doesn’t get sold for a couple of years 😀

Thanks Justin, do you know if it’s outdoor ink and would it run in a Roland CJ500?

    Cheers

I thought with the word "screen" on it would have been for screen printing but all the inks are like water, do screen printing inks have a thick consistency?

Go with a wet application all the time with etch, i’ve never done any etch dry as yet, Rob makes it look so easy in his video demo i watched a while back though 🙁

Make sure the blade is not touching any of the re-set buttons (the red buttons at the ends).
If it is this causes it to stop, only a thought.
