I feel your pain Cheryl! Have just come through some issues here too.
You will need to re-install all programmes if you go for a wipe, and save all files.
If you have the XP disc a ‘repair’ option might work and is worth a try at least. Google ‘doing a repair in XP’ and you will find many good tutorials on doing it. Same for doing a full wipe and re-install. Best of luck and have plenty of wine on standby!

I currently have vista on the laptop and hate it…(I dont use it much…my lad does)
but wondered about a full wipe and install xp which I have a copy of…should be straight forward???????

Vista has always been a pig! But it may be that there is something starting up at start time that is conflicting and causing the problems. If as you say your lad is using it possibly some gaming stuff? – can be hard on video etc. Might be worth checking what is starting up at start time. If you haven’t already done so, remember to have all your data files (customer designes etc) backed up before you do anything. Then as Harry says, I’d try a repair from the vista CD first.

Thought I might have solved it with sorting out all the start ups… Gone to print in versa…started… Went to export file from Corel..everything seized…CNt alt delete wont even come up… Another print knackered….now it’s just gone back to black screen.

You can also buy a plinth with a fan in it which will cool the laptop down, I think it plugs into the USB for power. PC world sell them about £20 I think??

    Jason.

I’m pretty sure it’s not overheating…..but I’ll guess I’ll find out for sure. After install….

if Ctrl Alt Del doesn’t come up then something is up… heating is normally the main problem but you say no. Mine cooks at 80deg sometimes, it is getting knackered.

Do you get Blue screen’s of death? White text on blue background and reboots

Sound’s like hardware problem, sometimes the laptop screen connector can be loose, but showing u how to take that apart is sometimes best left to an engineer. The clue is black screen but Ctrl Alt Del *SHOULD* could up regardless of anything, it has top priority!

p.s. running versa or any RIP is never advisable on laptop, due to the "power saving" / sleeping design of most laptops

Is it 1-0 England vs Italy?

How much of your kit is USB? or Serial?

Watch out for Win8, this is the new operating system released yesterday, its bag of bolt so try before you spend.

What do you mean by boot camp my dear?… Please educate? I wouldn’t like to buy another PC… But doesn’t versacam need PCto run…or can I parallels mac and cutter/printer etc run from that?

well im surprised you not installed bootcamp on your mac… parallels allows u to do the same but allows it to work within the mac.

Bootcamp is windows for real using mac hardware.. it turns it into a real PC

this is XP, but all Windows CD’s are fine

Ooooyeah nooooo..nice to have windows as something separate on the mac that you only turn on for cornel draw or something…I would hate to turn on mac and find windows there…wrong! …I’ve really fallen for mac…
I’ll have a look at the link when I’m off the iPad. Windows updates for 6 years taking an age to load….

aw I get it…good link by the way…easy to understand… I like to able to switch between mac and windows without reboot…on my main iMac,
but should I need another comp for the printer…I can see where it would come in very handy!
wondered what bootcamp was..ive seen it on the mac somewhere…

well I have the same mac in front of me at work.. i did have parallels working but it needs an upgrade to work with mountain lion but it is slower.

Bootcamp allows u to boot between the two, which is awesome. Thing is, my i7 imac FLIES with Corel in bootcamp and I am a corel main user.

So what I am pointing out to you Cx, is that you can buy another mac powerbook and you got the choice 😛

Your official Adobe licenses (i think corel also) will allow you to install onto two device. So you can use either for whatever purpose u want at the time 😛

    u get me ? 😉

Last week my pc kept turning itself off and when i turned it back on it would stay on for half hour or so and back off again, bought a new power supply and everything back to normal now.

I had that problem before too…
and I had the overheating problem on a dell comp too…
this I am 98% sure was some sort of software prob…Ive yet to install cutter and versacamm yet…but it all looks to be running without a glitch on the install so far…fingers crossed…
the thing was running sooooo slow…I am glad that ive had to do something radical…the thought I’m paying for my lad to stare at a screen when nothing is happening or he has to keep restarting over and over…not productive..
Ive been looking at the macbook…oo Dave you are a tempter…it would be nice to have a lovely macbook…maybe the bigger one..?

Cheryl, bit late now but why a laptop?? You would really have been better with a small tower for that sort of work. Much cheaper to buy as well.
