Lorraine the one above is Alans rendition. I have done changes just haven’t posted it yet I don’t want to post to much images on here in one thread. I’m going to rework the text completely and someone is looking at the original I think.

thanks anyway but I think the duller sky takes your eye away from it and you notice the text more. As for digital or airbrush I think digital purely because I may have multiple copies to do if he accepts it.

    Thanks for the advice guys.
Steve, Magpie, I’m not really sure what you mean by bringing the text forward a bit do you mean making it darker and more bold or am I not reading right.
Alan I will try adding a little sky and post the result.
I took this in from a design I did in signlab with the black line originally done for vinyl work, any thanks for the comments all advice taken and thanks for the pointers.

I just bought a Summa D60 without the stand and decided that I needed one.
My brother inlaw (a joiner) and me knocked one up in less than a hour start to finish made from 4×2 and plywood 1/2″ made to measure and its brilliant steady as a rock. Joints are interlocked and glued light and portable if I want to move it. If you want details just say so.

I also at the moment have Iwata HP-C, HP-B, two each and two Paasche VL’s Millenium and a standard one a Badger 150 with three needle sizes and a Devilbiss Super 63 Sprite major. If you want to see the results that can be achieve take a peek here https://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=4375

Good luck and you will need a lot of patience to start with. I found that using cellulose auto car paints easiest to start with (just the cans) but havent used them in a while it seems to be all acrylic and mettalic ones now and have yet to try these but will be doing in the near future.

Good luck and as said before practice and control is all its about.

I know what you mean about salesmen.
I just bought e6 the full bifta and to be perfectly honest thanks to here the registration fee has already paid for itself.
THANKS to MIKE and BRIAN saved myself £££££’s almost half of what someone else quoted. I was seriously thinking of financing it the first quote I got.
    Hasn’t crashed with me yet.
Then again with some of the systems that I have worked with in the past (at work) I tend to make a couple of changes to things and then ctrl + s automatically. e6 has an autosave function which I haven’t switched on or tried.
My mouse doesn’t seem to be supported in it though as my acceleration doesn’t seem to work in the programme.

Back to salesmen I don’t mind paying money for things buisness has got to be allowed to make a profit or it ceases to be one, but I HATE being fleeced it leaves a bitter taste.

But I now know to ask a little more the next time and they will be last on the list when I go shopping for stuff again.

Further to add to the red and green thingy.
Its a saying my mother used to say (???), but I notice that the writing on the green is not red and that makes a big difference.
One of my local chippis has his menu done in green and red writing.
Quite a famous chippie too and man it s”$*ks can hardly read it from 5 let alone 15 feet whoever made that should have been marched out the back door and shot. God its awful.

Been working on designs for my first van myself and my own Jeep will be posting in the near future.
Might be Interesting!! and very beneficial going by what I see on here.

Have you checked the Baud rates on your Com Port.
I just installed Summa software and I noticed that the Baud rates are different from what I normally see.

I don’t know which system you are using but Right click my computer on the desktop, Properties takes you into System Properties (In XP you click on the Hardware Tab and what you are looking for is DEVICE MANAGER
click this tab and look down the list and click on PORTS (COM & LPT) and you will see Com 1 etc etc DOUBLE CLICK it and the port Dialouge opens
You can then check the Baud rate (Bits per second, I notice that it is really slow 9600 on my plotter) and the other settings These setting will be in your plotter manual somewhere and if they ain’t right it will read gobbledy gook hence the confused cutting.
You can check to see if it is using Xon Xoff here as well (Under flow control) or bottom window.

Alternativley you could check these settings in your laptop and check they are the same on your PC.

    Installed anything New??

Well hope this helps you out or I’m not to late with the post to help you.

let me know how you get on.

Oh if you had a crash check your temp folder for any wierd entries an delete em. Files with a ~ in front etc etc.

It was my first “Big” Job as they say.
I didn’t “learn it anywhere I can just “Do it” I seem to be able to build up the shadows, tones an colours by airbrush. I find you can actually see whats happening as you do it if that makes any sense to you.
I have discovered since (!!!) that I was using an airbrush that was too fine for the paints that I was using. A devillblis Super 63.
Limited knowledge at that time ya see.

Rectified that now and I didn’t buy any in Britain niether (well one secondhand one which turned out more expensive than the new ones that I bought).

Got two from the good old US of A (which delivered no import taxes etc marked as a gift!! were half the price in this country.
A Paasche VL and a Mellenium)

Another two I bought came from Kowloon brand new straight from the factory Iwata HP C and HP B creme dela creme apparently though I haven’t used them yet with delivery (Four days guaranteed and traceable) with import duty (£30 SPN) came to just under 2/3 of the UK prices.

Another secondhand one came from New York fraction of the cost just under £70 (SPN) didn’t expect to win it delivered.

PS SPN = Scottish Pound Note.

Friend knocking at the door while I’m about to have dinner (soup)
    He’s lookin for some.
“Do you like second days soup” I say
    “Yes” He replied
“Well” I said “Come back tomorrow then”

    Have you tried PIPEX.
I have a broadband account with them (!meg download) for £29 a month)
Gotta keep on an equal par to try an beat these yank gamers in my Black Hawk Down game you know
Seriously though I have found the service good and no probs so far they post when servers are disrupted or are being worked on.

Don’t know the prices but they do offer dedicated servers and their broadband service is very competitive [url]http://www.hostweb.pipex.net/

Well thanks for your replies all taken on board.

I feel that I agree with Rodney on some points (even though going by his first post that he had been smackin his head against the wall toooo much)
No offence taken at that post though to be perfectly honest you sounded as though you had gone to bed and got up the next morning knowing it all and thats where I find myself in a bit of a dilemma. My knowledge is limited I have learned a lot from these boards.

I feel that digital is the way forward as you can offer a much wider service and am very glad at mike’s recent post about the new versacamm as I was seriously considering buying one of these machines with and am waiting to see what the results of this post are . It can’t be right that it performs like this something must be wrong somewhere like a dead short between the salesman and the computer.

By what I am also able to discern that the PC600 bands a lot and is comparately expensive to run and is by some reports on the way out.

But the thing that really has got to me in the last year shall we say (not related to here I might add.) is that at work I took a step “forward” and went up the promotion ladder to the next oportunity that was open to me promation if you like the man in charge of a small work team resposible for aquiring data and providing services in my work environment to customers ie running jobs offshore for the customers.

Well since I have done that the company has offered voluntary redundancy to people but because of my position I don’t get offered it. If I apply it won’t be accepted If I was in my last position I could have walked away with approx 20K sick or what.

I am still determined that I want to do this in my area as I see not a lot of digital is being done but that then might be the customer a lot might not want digital prints on their livery.

Anyway for now its save save save need some mortgage money put away and a versacamm to save up for. Luckily I’m in a position to do that at the moment.

There are a few niche things I have been looking at and I can stockpile for them.

I must agree with all thats been said. THE most informative site on signwriting I’ve come across and they aren’t afraid to help people out niether quite surprising I find.
Once you look around no boubt you will find a lot of usefull tips.

Same as the rest welcome aboard.

    quote :

In the beginning, The Lord God Almighty, sitting on His throne on high, turned to His mate, the Archangel Gabriel and said “Gabby, today I’m going to create Scotland. I will make it a country of dark beautiful mountains, purple glens and rich green forests. I will give it clear swift flowing rivers and I will fill them with salmon. The land shall be lush and fertile, on which the people shall grow barley to brew into an amber nectar that will be much sought after the world over. Underneath the land I shall lay rich seams of coal.

In the waters around the shores there will be an abundance of fish and beneath the sea bed there will be vast deposits of oil and gas”.

“Excuse me Sire”, interrupted the Archangel Gabriel, “Don’t you think you are being a bit too generous to these Scots”?

“Not really”, replied the Lord, “wait ’til you see the neighbours I’m giving them”.

Then click TOOLS – FOLDER OPTIONS Under folder options again click VIEW and click the APPLY TO ALL FOLDERS and each time you open it should go to details or whatever you chose for your view.

Hope this is what you want

First one is pencil (done for my girlfriend now wife at the time the things you do eh!! 😳
Mikes right the second is airbrush done with black gouache and sealed with some Daler stuff for sealing water colours I think.
I have a digital camera and intend doing some more drawings in the near future so I’ll take photos while I do it if time permits.
It seems to be a case of working from white to black and building up the tones to what you think looks right plus masking, very important and time consuming.
I was looking at E-Bay and was thinking of buying that Roland CX24 that is advertised for £1300 odd to start me with Signs and cutting stencils on frisk paper would save a lot of time.
