Strange?????
Posted by Kevin.Beck on November 29, 2003 at 12:14 pmWent to cut a file today, only text. The plotter cut it- well sort of.
It put all lines in there too, some of the letters had lines shooting all over the place.Thought it was the cutter, as the power/error light was flashing.
This was in signlab, so I tried the same file in VMP, just the same.
Then hooked up the lap top, cut great, no problem.
Got to be the computer, any ideas.
Don`t really want to go down the route of installing everything unless I really have to.

Have you tried reconnecting to the original computer and resending the file.
It may be something as simple as a loose connection. If it still does it, you at least know to look else where for the problem.

peter is right.. a good one to try is simply shut everything down, right to the mains and reboot the lot. cutter included..
see what happens..i have an old story going back about 16 years…
our spandex (gerber 4b) shut down.. couldnt get it to start etc.. back then this cost about 21 grand.. (12inch wide? 😮 ) we never had a computer before never mind know whats going on.
we called and said we tried everything.. could they come out.
call-out charge was about £250
in the bloke comes next day.. ten mins past its fixed.. phewww… what was it.“Fuse” in the plug! doh…:o

More like an error in the file. Try re-saving it or re-doing it.
-
turned everything off, checked connections. rebooted. still cutting like its on acid..
Not only happens to a certain file, typed in text, same result. blade shooting off all over the place, criss crossing over the text..
typed in text in SL & VMP programs, same result. could it be a componant in the computer breaking down?
Cuts OK when laptop is connected… (hot) (hot) (hot)

total nerd response from me – but it would sound like it could be a port setting or perhaps the plotter driver needs reinstalling or perhaps if the plotter is set up in the printers section of windows as (an output option) then check there too???…I dunno… 🙁
let us know what you find out, when you fint it out..sorta…you know what I mean 😀
more soon

I’ve got to agree with mike, go to system inside control panel and check your settings are the same on the laptop as the PC especially X0n/Xoff.
Hope that’s it mate!

will look at the settings tomorrow, but would it change in the both SL & VMP at the same time???
-
when I try with the lap top, I just remove the cable from the computer and plug it in the back of the laptop. So I`m using all the same cables, same connections etc. works OK.
never go into the settings, so would it have changed on there own??

Hi Becky,
I had a similar problem. Spoke to the engineer,
He asked if I had changed any settings, which I hadn’t.
Ended up calling him out, Cost a fortune.Problem! The settings had been changed, not sure how, all to do with the Xon Xoff /hardware setting
If anything goes wrong now, I always check these settings…just check they are the same on both computers. Hope it helpsSimon

couldn`t rest this morning, went down the shop, look at the settings all seemed ok, same port LPT 1.
reinstalled the drivers.
wheres this setting Xon Xoff?
are they in control panel/ printer, if they are, then they are ok.
-
Xon Xoff is part of the serial set up relating to handshaking.
as I think you said you are using lpt1 you will not be affected by this setting.
I have had this type of problem before one just last month but on a graffic. I just went back to look at it for interest. I could not see any nodes off line but just to test . reducing nodes cleared it and converting to polygon worked.
Putting outlines on with a point setting on can cause problems at sharp corners. I Know these are not text only problems from which you are suffering but may be helpful.
As you tried the text in signlab and another set of software, may be its the font file. As it works on your laptop may be try reloading the font from the laptop -
hi becky in vmp there is a set up plotter go thru the motions and read
the help file on setting up it will show how to change the on off and u can play with the settings till u get it right. -
Hi,
When I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, the only solution i came up with that worked was to change the motherboard on the pc (:)Try’d everything else with no success, computer was working fine in every other respect apart from these random cuts on the plotter. Its behaved perfectly after that.

getting stranger.
un clicked the spoiler option, and its ok (up to yet)
only problem is, it takes a while to download.
will buy a serial cable and try that later.

I’m having the same trouble with my signlab5 programme, found that if you save it as a diffrent name, shut down, reboot and open the new file all will be O.K. you also must delete the old file. hope this helps 😥 😆

Have you checked the Baud rates on your Com Port.
I just installed Summa software and I noticed that the Baud rates are different from what I normally see.I don’t know which system you are using but Right click my computer on the desktop, Properties takes you into System Properties (In XP you click on the Hardware Tab and what you are looking for is DEVICE MANAGER
click this tab and look down the list and click on PORTS (COM & LPT) and you will see Com 1 etc etc DOUBLE CLICK it and the port Dialouge opens
You can then check the Baud rate (Bits per second, I notice that it is really slow 9600 on my plotter) and the other settings These setting will be in your plotter manual somewhere and if they ain’t right it will read gobbledy gook hence the confused cutting.
You can check to see if it is using Xon Xoff here as well (Under flow control) or bottom window.Alternativley you could check these settings in your laptop and check they are the same on your PC.
Installed anything New??
Well hope this helps you out or I’m not to late with the post to help you.
let me know how you get on.
Oh if you had a crash check your temp folder for any wierd entries an delete em. Files with a ~ in front etc etc.

Harrison. Problem happens with text just typed in, not with just a particular file. Same problem also happens in another sign program.
Forbi. Using LPT port, so I don`y think I can change the flow rate.
Have yet to try the serial cable, too bussy to mess.

So if it’s just text, is it one kind of font or all fonts??
Maybe there is something wrong with the font file, maybe its corrupt??
