I think this may have been covered at some length 😀 here before but how does one stop SPAM mail getting through? Yes, that kind of mail!!

My web guy has put some sort of filter on which removes viruses and highlights the Spam before it gets to me which means I can easily remove it but if I have a customer looking over my shoulder I have to ‘mouse’ like Billy the Kid on speed to stop images appearing!

Even my wife is beginning to think I have a problem or another woman! (hot)

I’ve had similar problems. It seems when you email certain companies/clients they are kind enough to sell your email address on to the spammers, although its also worth noting that the spammers use ‘trawlers’ (think thats what they call them) to search through web pages, much like a search engine does, picking out the email addresses and adding them to a spam list. (Just been corrected, aka bots, spiders)

If the problem is coming from pop-ups Martin, you can get anti-popup programs for free or very little, well worth it to save embaressment. If it’s images within emails, that can only be solved by switching off the html function within your email program I believe. Not the ideal solution, but all images then come as attachments, and are not displayed.

Monty Python said it first but, I Don’t Like SPAM!!! 😀

Lol , never reply to spam , cos then they know the mail account they sent to is actually active!! – you just get more.
What I wonder is how they know I’m bald , impotent , have small breasts and even smaller family jewels , want a cheap university degree and like porn? 🙂

You mean you don’t have a mortgage and don’t go to the dentist either?? Rodney.

I get heaps that aren’t even addressed to me.

Mailwasher is good or set up a new account and let the old one fill up and bounce everything.

(-) Attach 3 wheels and a some shiny new forks to the Firetrust logo and you have yourself a Bulldog Bash contender! 😆

Looks like the best option Martin, great tip Adrian!

    Martin,

I was getting over 600 emails every Monday morning until recently when my hosting company http://www.easyspace.co.uk decided to change things and introduced Easypost. This has a very effective built in spam filter which is adjustable, this monday I only had 75 to deal with. You can also look at your mailbox from any computer and view and clear out the spam box at your leisure.

I know what you mean about the filth they are sending I mean I am even getting graphical images of women with horses now, how long will it before it’s children, I have already recieved the ‘barely legal ones’ so we are now only one step away and this scum know no bounds, and what happens then if someones looking over your shoulder as you are desparately trying to delete, are you branded a ruddy nonse or marched off down to local nick. It ain’t on mate.

If you are think of changing hosting companies give easyspace a shot, they are very good value for money.

    Back to work

There is an email preferance service you can sign up to same as the fax and phone one:

    http://www.dmaconsumers.org/emps.html

I’ve signed up to it with all the email addresses i use, though it’s a bit early to see any results yet!

You will probably find they are selling all the addresses they get Lorriane, (sorry I’m an old cynic) same as what happens when you reply to the delete my address box on the spam, that just tells the scum that the email address (yours) is still active.

Well Allan that will be seen, but I have noticed a marked improvement in the amount of marketing telephone calls i receive since i signed up from a link John posted a while ago to the Telephone preferance service, and the email one is part of the same group.

Sorry Lorraine, I guess life has made me a bit cynical, I did not mean to sound so negative on your suggestion.

Don’t open any junk mails. Make sure you have outlook set up so you have to double click to open anything.

Now that is a good tip, I never knew you could do that. It may well spare the blushes in the shop.
