WOW! How long did it take? How many swear words did you use to apply it:)
Steve. -
‘Tis OK, I found one:)
-
VERY nice! I’ve never used SignGold:(
-
Same to you Phill, nice card btw!
-
Yeah, gonna do just that Martin. I prefer to work from vector outlines though cos I have done a couple in the past that didn’t scale properly!
Cheers
Steve. -
Where about in Benidorm are you m8, going to Alfaz on Tuesday for a week, will try to pay a visit…..
-
Same here Lamby, plenty vector jobs, none good enough for digiprint. Tried an image search on Google or similar?

Agree about City Link, crap service and expensive. Looking at going back to Parcel Force, good price if you send a few out each month.

Who cares? If you can make high quality signs with a ZX Spectrum and a blunt Stanley knife AND make money………..:)
Before the rumours start, I get a fresh six-pack of blades EVERY year!
Love y’all now.

Seems obvious I know, but, the one with the lowest interest rates you can find. Make sure you get a leaflet detailing their bank charges as well. They will probably try to give you an overdraft as it’s quite a small loan, insist on it being a loan, overdrafts are usually more expensive. They may try to burst you for an arrangement fee, tell them the competition down the road has offered to waive the fee.
Good luck. -
Once again, excellent Steve. How are the staff going to get the barman/waiter mannequin back indoors at night though? 🙄

Screen printing will last longer on a vehicle, should be a helluva lot cheaper too.
Edit: onto vinyl, not directly onto the vehicle I meant to say!
-
Superb Andrew, didn’t expect you to do this over the weekend though!
Thanks very much, I will manage the tartan and gun-stuff myself – the least I can do!An excellent service that I will definately be using 😀
-
Hi Gray, good to see you back laddie, glad you enjoyed your travels and meeting global sign buddies. Now, away and blow that nose……………

Seriously though, all you uksignboarders, it is a custom job so please don’t use it for anything.

Hi Rhys
Just sent you a crate of mags and textbooks I no longer require. Courier wanted £72+VAT for carriage but you say in your post that you will pay UK postage only. Pity ‘cos I just sent it to you through the Post Office and it cost £126 uninsured. Look forward to receiving your cheque mate. Please send to;

C’mon Rob, he told me you were his Son.

I spoke to Harry today, in fact he phoned me – must be psychic – nah, I emailed him last night!
Anyhoo, what a great bloke! Helped loads with advice on looking after my Summa plotter and then offered me blades at a price I WILL NOT refuse 😀 It turned out that I was buying his blades already from a distributor at a much inflated price.
Give him a go folks.

I’ve seen the LED moving message signs using cross-fade and it’s used in disco/fx lighting, so, yes.
-
Just wait for 15mins John. No doubt Oor Lambie will be filling the gap in the market as we type! 😉
Oh, and if you hadn’t already considered this Robert then I’m in for 10% commission for the seed planting.
S’not as if you’re busy…………..

As far as I’m aware (as I’ve used both) they are both much the same. I think laser printer stuff is more anti-curl (snag-proof) as it tends to get shoved or dragged through more rollers than in a copier. The temperature is about the same though – unless things have changed that I don’t know about.
I’m interested in your screen-print setup, please email or PM me details.

Steve.PS: I agree with the Rioja statement, although the French grapesqueezers have some mighty fine wines too! I come from Gibraltar, lived in Spain also, Father still does (Alfaz). Many a nippy heid on Rioja.

Watch that real Irish Guinness (one ‘n’ or two?) it has a habit of sneaking up on you. Have a great time mate.
-
Thanks Brian, El Perfecto. 😀
-
Hi Brian
It’s a five door.

You’ll get them all here laddie!
-
Has the Focus changed since 2000 (W plate)?
-
Actually, I’ve spent several hours on it, just haven’t reached the monogram bit yet 🙄
-
Aha!
I bought Mikes CD a couple or three weeks ago. Haven’t managed to get that far yet, I will now fast forward with great vigour and enthusiasm……. 😉
-
Hi Lorraine
Thanks for the suggestion. I do have Corel 8 and 11, I totally forgot about the alfy bit. I’ll have a look 😀
Anyone else?
Edit: Had a wee look, nothing i could find suitable really. 😥
-
Very impressive mate! I particularly like the ‘Wet ‘n’ Wild’ effect with them pouring out of the bus windows. Excellent.
-
Why not mask/stencil it and paint directly on the wall(s). I’d like to see them pull that off!
-
Try keeping off the Buckfast while you are doing the techy stuff mate! 😛
P.S. Completed my first ‘Oracle’ vinyl job today – very impressed! Oh- the vinyl was OK too……………
-
Give me your email addy, and I’ll send it 😀 If it’s a private email addy, then PM it to me and I’ll delete it as soon as the file has been sent 😉
Steve. Can’t attach the file for some reason.
-
I have PM’d you Becky.
-
Thanks for that Phil, you learn something new every day, even at my age! 😉

Andrew, I think the required logo is the script style ‘autobiography’ one. Didn’t know it was in sticker form though, the only one’s I’ve seen are in 3D stainless steel.

By the way, if you find a way to get this image to sit still (it’s an animated .gif) please let me know!

-
Chris, do you fabricate these to the trade?
Steve.
-
AAAAAAAAAAArRRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
Where did that luvly, sexy stainless steel go?!
-
OK Robert, I understand.
Cheers.

We work from a shop as my house (and wife) couldn’t handle the setup there. I’m at an advantage though because we had a huge 1st floor lying vacant above our catering business, so, the overheads are considerably less than setting up a new shop solely for the sign business.
If I were not in this position, I would move to a shop only if business was so good that it warranted the expense AND running overheads. I’d advise anyone to keep it in their ‘shed’ as long as possible.
I suppose it depends on a lot of variables though (?)
-
Hi Rodney, welcome to the board.
I like your post on doming, very informative! I might even give it a try soon.
Best regards to you and your family.
Steve. -
Excellent Gray. You might want to suggest that your sign makes their building need a bit of a painting on the balcony above! 😉
-
Righty, from what I can tell, this has been saved as a text file NOT a vector .eps. I’ve tried it in Corel, Flexi7 and Photoshop none of them will recognise it even if I rename it. But, as I said earlier, if it’s slightly more than simple, I can’t do it!
Sorry mate. 🙁
Was there not a post on this board about a web site that you could convert any file to any format? (-)
-
It’s a strange one Stuart. I can’t open it, just keeps coming up with screeds of data and is identified as a PHP.ID? File.
I’m not very good with file transfers though, so I hope someone else here can help you.
Best of luck
Steve.(I’ll keep trying)
-
Even simpler, why not just 4 foamex cards with a picture of each of the sequences on? 😉
-
Hi Martin
Easiest way I can can think of (and cheapest) is to make a mock traffic light box and put three old car headlamp units from the scrapyard in it.
That way, you don’t need mains voltage (I imagine this light would be in a field anyway) a car battery would do. A simple switching unit could easily be made too.
-
Very nice work Mark. Did you vinyl up the back panels seperately or as larger pieces and then trim around the doors etc?
How long to do one?
-
Cheers again Brian – what a guy! 😀
-
Much the same as what Steve B. sez, a clean, presentable and reliable van is what is required.
Buy a new one and you’ll lose 20% of its value just driving it off the forecourt. “But I’ll get that back off the tax man as depreciation!” I hear you say. Yes you will, but only if you’re making enough profit that provides you with enough tax liability to be deducted from.
D’yekenwhitahmsaying?
Even if you have the profit and tax liability, buy a new bit of kit instead of a new van. A spanky Gerber Edge or router may give you another string to your bow and enable you to provide services to your customers faster, cheaper and more professionally. A new van WONT.
Steve.
-
Brian – that’s the very one, almost. Yours must be more up to date than the sample I have but it will certainly do the job. Thank you very much, I owe you 😉
Oor Rabbie – I know what you mean about Fridays, I lose most of my hair on this day every week! If you have the original Corgi shield with the ‘registered gas installer’ text on it then luvly. If you have the ‘Fair Trades’ one with the weighing scales, even better!
Cheers again lads.
All I need now is the SNIPEF one……….. 😮
-
C’mon guys ‘n’ gals – someone must have used these, still have them or know where to get them?
I’ve searched all the online logo sites BTW.
Steve.
-
Thanks Adrian 😉
Anyone else got any of the others?
-
Heh,Heh – must add tho, I look the least dodgy! Poll anyone?
Martin, are you really 2’6″?
-
Congratulations Lorraine, have a great fortnight!
-
Ah! That’s me out then Martin.
If it’s supply only BTW, then it’s not our responsibiliy. Blunt fact.
-
That will be the very ones mate! Except the quantity is six. Do you have any gossip on this? Or are you just spying 😉
A typical “I want this yesterday” job!
Oh, by the way – I’m quoting a fiver for each one 🙂 😮
-
Thanks Simon, I will phone and get a quote from them.
Mike, thanks for the kind warning! This is a supply only job but I think they are for on-site signposting.
You are right about the permission caper though, you have to be a member of your regional Tourist Board and a recognised attraction. Although I have seen one or two for questionable venues! Even the Tourist Board can bend the rules if they are strapped for cash it appears.
Oh, and through the proper authorities they cost a small fortune to acquire.
Steve.
P.S. Mike, I’ve Pay Pal’d some dosh to you for your Holy Grail of Guru discs.
-
Welcome to the site Rab. The UKSB membership is definately worth it, I just joined a few days ago and have learned a helluva lot.
-
Excellent craftsmanship Steve. Was the butterfly hand painted from scratch or did you use a stencil or plotted trace? I ask this ‘cos I can’t draw a stick-man never mind your butterfly – living in hope!
Steve.

S’right Mike they do. And if you use their autoroute planners you just multiply the mileage rate (57ppm?) by the calculated mileage. Et viola!
