Disaster here for a while with Securicor Omega but they were moving depots from Edinburgh to Perth. You think with their experience they would be able to co-ordinate it properly!

Agree about City Link, crap service and expensive. Looking at going back to Parcel Force, good price if you send a few out each month.

Seems obvious I know, but, the one with the lowest interest rates you can find. Make sure you get a leaflet detailing their bank charges as well. They will probably try to give you an overdraft as it’s quite a small loan, insist on it being a loan, overdrafts are usually more expensive. They may try to burst you for an arrangement fee, tell them the competition down the road has offered to waive the fee.
    Good luck.

As far as I’m aware (as I’ve used both) they are both much the same. I think laser printer stuff is more anti-curl (snag-proof) as it tends to get shoved or dragged through more rollers than in a copier. The temperature is about the same though – unless things have changed that I don’t know about.

I’m interested in your screen-print setup, please email or PM me details.

We work from a shop as my house (and wife) couldn’t handle the setup there. I’m at an advantage though because we had a huge 1st floor lying vacant above our catering business, so, the overheads are considerably less than setting up a new shop solely for the sign business.

If I were not in this position, I would move to a shop only if business was so good that it warranted the expense AND running overheads. I’d advise anyone to keep it in their ‘shed’ as long as possible.

I suppose it depends on a lot of variables though (?)

Righty, from what I can tell, this has been saved as a text file NOT a vector .eps. I’ve tried it in Corel, Flexi7 and Photoshop none of them will recognise it even if I rename it. But, as I said earlier, if it’s slightly more than simple, I can’t do it!

    Hi Martin

Easiest way I can can think of (and cheapest) is to make a mock traffic light box and put three old car headlamp units from the scrapyard in it.

That way, you don’t need mains voltage (I imagine this light would be in a field anyway) a car battery would do. A simple switching unit could easily be made too.

Much the same as what Steve B. sez, a clean, presentable and reliable van is what is required.

Buy a new one and you’ll lose 20% of its value just driving it off the forecourt. “But I’ll get that back off the tax man as depreciation!” I hear you say. Yes you will, but only if you’re making enough profit that provides you with enough tax liability to be deducted from.

    D’yekenwhitahmsaying?

Even if you have the profit and tax liability, buy a new bit of kit instead of a new van. A spanky Gerber Edge or router may give you another string to your bow and enable you to provide services to your customers faster, cheaper and more professionally. A new van WONT.

    Steve.

Oor Rabbie – I know what you mean about Fridays, I lose most of my hair on this day every week! If you have the original Corgi shield with the ‘registered gas installer’ text on it then luvly. If you have the ‘Fair Trades’ one with the weighing scales, even better!
