• Tourist Board Signs?

Posted by Steve Madley on May 24, 2003 at 9:28 am

    Hi folks
Can anyone point me in the right direction for aluminium Tourist Board style roadsigns?

My customer requires the traditional brown ‘pointer’ sign for a visitor attraction 4ftx 1ft mounted on two poles – goalpost style – where is the best place to get these? Do they come in brown or as blanks ready for vinyl application?

    Thanks.

Steve – I know I’m probably being a muppet – but is it so he/she can advertise their business on the roadside?…

If so, be carefull – people have been prosecuted before now for using these without authority…I understand such ‘official’ signs have to be applied for and granted by planning etc…

just thought I’d say – else we may have to have a new photo of you in ‘bracelets’…lol… 😀

    more soon

Thanks Simon, I will phone and get a quote from them.

Mike, thanks for the kind warning! This is a supply only job but I think they are for on-site signposting.

You are right about the permission caper though, you have to be a member of your regional Tourist Board and a recognised attraction. Although I have seen one or two for questionable venues! Even the Tourist Board can bend the rules if they are strapped for cash it appears.

Oh, and through the proper authorities they cost a small fortune to acquire.

    Steve.

P.S. Mike, I’ve Pay Pal’d some dosh to you for your Holy Grail of Guru discs.

This wouldn’t happen to be a set of 4 signs saying “Trout Fishing” (and something else I can’t quite recall) would it 😉

That will be the very ones mate! Except the quantity is six. Do you have any gossip on this? Or are you just spying 😉

A typical “I want this yesterday” job!

Oh, by the way – I’m quoting a fiver for each one 🙂 😮

I was asked for a quote yesterday – 4 signs – 4ft x 1ft metal roadsigns on posts, “tourist board” colours – 2 signs pointing left – 2 pointing right, supply only. A lady called Margo at the five sisters rang me about this. I sent them a quotation back yesterday.

Mike has raised an interesting point though, are they legal? I never questioned whether thay have a right to display this type of sign. To be honest I never even considered it at all. Not sure what to do next if I was given the go ahead.

    Any advice?

They must have spent more money phoning sign companys than the signs will cost. Oh by the way Steve I quoted them £1.50 or £2.00 if they wanted class 1 reflective !!!!!

Ah! That’s me out then Martin.

If it’s supply only BTW, then it’s not our responsibiliy. Blunt fact.

Your right Steve if it is supply only then what the customer does with them is up to them. I always advise customers though when I am asked for anything like this and then it is up to them if they take my advice.
