Right, I don’t know if anyone can help with this or not. A friend of mine owns a riding stable and has asked me to make some road signs so he can teach the riders about going out on the road. He has asked if it would be possible to make a traffic light that he could change.
I know they don’t have a lot of money so anything that is done would have to be fairly cheap. As it is a friend I don’t mind devoting a little time to this myself but I an not sure how to go about making it.

    Hi Martin

Easiest way I can can think of (and cheapest) is to make a mock traffic light box and put three old car headlamp units from the scrapyard in it.

That way, you don’t need mains voltage (I imagine this light would be in a field anyway) a car battery would do. A simple switching unit could easily be made too.

    Hi Martin,

As Steve says make a mock up traffic light box, but instead of using electric lights make a continously rotating horizontal banner inside with the 4 light arrangments on(like a bus destination board by rotated 90deg), then operate by hand with a rotating handle…..really cheap, no complicated electrics and worry about it getting wet….i should imagine about £15 of foamex and about a £10 banner and a little paint and vinyl.

Even simpler, why not just 4 foamex cards with a picture of each of the sequences on? 😉
