are you importing the pdf to corel & then viewing & printing ?
often get the same problem, the image will look different to if viewed in pdf reader.
I have Ai (not late version) & have found that if open the pdf in illustrator & save as Ai file or eps, it will then import to corel correctly

I also often get crashes with corel x5 and mostly with large files, usually when using trace or importing large eps or pdf etc, have recently updated pc to 3700k 32gb ram everything high end and still corel crashes regularly, only partial solution I found is to save more often, then at least part of the job is done, then reopen & try again, it is annoying & sometimes wish I had learnt to use Ai but that seems all foreign to me.

Baby sit is the only way at the moment, have always used Metamark without any issues,
seems a lot of hassle now though & just trying to eliminate either the printer or the media as the cause, Will try a different make & see how it goes.

Gareth, i have the 30" model of that printer sp300i. it is not the fastest versacamm as it only has 2 printheads but unless you need a fast high output it wont be a problem, You will be able to do all the jobs you mentioned, also the printer software (versaworks) is very easy to use, you will be up and running in no time, and the printer is very economical on ink.

Warren, you can print , cut & contour on the same job.
It always contour first & then perfcut, make sure you increase perf cutting pressure enough though, i find i have to use 250gf with metamark md5.

Thanks for the suggestions, the problem is the print is not dry and unless i am there to watch it does not come into contact with anything, it gets ruined.

Re: takeup roller, i did not think one would help as the print will come into contact as it rolls, or am i getting it wrong ?

    Roger
Am sure its versawoks that has computability problems and not the printer. Your pc should be fine, with win 7 64 bit it depends on the version you have, ie ultimate is ok but not home premium, so maybe the same with vista. Worst way you could upgrade to win 7, it is more stable and better than vista anyway.
i have just bought a new versacamm and am running win 7 64 ultimate, and is all running perfect.

I seem to have found solution, the image was made up of many layers, so i cut the background layer pasted to new page & create boundary worked fine, then i just cut & pasted back to original page.

    Thanks for help 😎

Alfred cheung at print part shop, head was $485 shipping $57 and $40 paypal fees, total $582, (roland wanted £508 +vat) ordered & paid tuesday morning uk & it arrived 11am friday with fedex.

Was easy to fit, biggest problem was being a bit worried in case i cocked anything up, but the service manual was very clear and made it fairly simple as long as you are reasonably technical minded.

You are spot on, have been using corel since version 3 about 1993/4 I find it quite easy to use & learn, now i am trying to learn vinyl cutting, with corel i dont feel so lost as i probably would with some of the more dedicated vinyl signmaking applications.

I think he means if you draw a square with a cutting outline, & put text with no cutting line in the square, for some reason it will cut out the text as well, i get this, not everytime, but it is very annoying and i cannot see why it does it.

There is a outline around the text, but is .706mm & not hairline, also is not same color as cut color.

Am new to this, i bought the printer in september but am only just starting to use it, seems quite good for labels but photo images dont seem very high quality, i am probaly expecting to much from it though.
