Nice one Chris, thanks for taking the time to do that. To some people a simple shadow is a nightmare to do, as has been seen on many a vehicle! 🙄

I can’t open that file…. mind you as I don’t have corel that might explain it :lol1:

I was interested though just to see how easy it was compared to dedicated sign software.

I use something called inspire pro which is pre flexisign by the same people, at some point in the future I am going to have to do something about my software because it won’t run on anything above windows 98. I doubt there would be any kind of upgrade path for flexi but even if there were I expect it would be more than I could afford even though this would probably be my best option. So obviously I am going to have to look at other packages and as a lot of people seem to be using corel these days then that is one I am going to have to consider quite seriously.

Good question Martin – and I share your concerns.

I started with (and still use) Casmate (which pre-dated Inspire). It’s now also obsolete and no longer supported and needs windows 98 to run. Like you, I looked around for an alternative. A number of years ago I cross graded to signlab and use it on occasion but still prefer my old Casmate. Likewise I have learned to use Corel particularly for applying gradients fills – but still prefer Casmate as my weapon of choice.

I think we all become proficient in the first design package we start off with. It then becomes difficult to switch to something else because of the learning curve required to master a new application.

Sanp……….Used Corel since V4 back in the early 90′ and have stuck with it. I engrave from Engravelab (signlab with different tools) and just cant get to grips with the drawing tools so I do all my editing and creation in Corel then export…………..

Thanks Peter, will have a look at that latter on.

Phill I think you are spot on with what you say, I also have an old version of illustrator, think it’s version 7 or 8 and have sat down at times to try and learn how to use it but never seem to get very far before going back to inspire which I fully understand and can use fairly quickly.

Not having a printer myself and not being asked for printed stuff very often I have found that I can manage OK with what I have but I know the day will come when I need to upgrade.

Being handy with computers helps to ensure that I can keep an old machine running windows 98 and don’t see me having to upgrade because of computer problems, it is more likely to be because of digital printing of some sort or another.

You are spot on, have been using corel since version 3 about 1993/4 I find it quite easy to use & learn, now i am trying to learn vinyl cutting, with corel i dont feel so lost as i probably would with some of the more dedicated vinyl signmaking applications.
