Hi, yes i understand, now… what, if any wrapping material will go through my gerber, I have a spare vespa side panel that Richard gave me and would like to try to wrap it.

Hi
Sublimation will only work on materials with a polymer-based surface. You can coat virtually anything with a polymer-based surface and can buy items ranging from t-shirts to metal plaques that will take sublimation prints. Sadly it will not work on 100% cotton.

Why do people automatically assume you are a mod if you ride a scooter? The graphic above was taken from an old SKA album front cover and the writing around it is a name of one of the tracks on that album. The guy who owns the scooter is defiantly not a mod.
Hey Mr Sticker, I take it you are saying that if i ran some “wrap” through my gerber that it would not be wide enough as you needed the full width to have something to hold on to? If you are pulling the vinyl to that extent how on earth do you stop the printed image distorting?best rgds

While we are on the subject of wrapping can someone have a look at the above pictures and tell me if they think it would be possible to wrap one of the side panels shown above, if so what can i run through the gerber?

Hi,
I would be interested in how you get on “wrapping” a vespa, I put a 12″ round graphic on the front of one the other day and had a complete nightmare at the point where the front horncasting meets the front legshields ( original target design was bigger and covered the top right corner of horncasting where it meets the front legshields) I dont envy you at all. I was using Oracle 751 printed on my gerber.
Ended up shrinking the size a bit so that the graphic didnt cover the top right corner but just lapped over the horncasting and all went well. Other probs i have encountered is round decals on the side panels, these can be a headache too.
Mind you the model i was fitting the graphics to was an older PX model the newer models are probably a better shape to work with. Good luck with it though and please post a picture when youve done it.

Hi,

Hi guys,
Yea i aint to bothered about what i could have got it for as i am aware that if i ordered full sheets i would have payed a lot less. This used to be how i bought this stuff but as i said above i very rarely use it now and so dont stock it.
All i was wondering is what the going rate for the size of “sign” that ive made is at the moment. Thanks for the input though!
Dave
-
Hi John,
Thanks for the reply mate, i used to hold the stuff in stock when i was doing a lot of this type of thing. But as i said dont do much now but the customer is local and asked if i could do them for them. You know what its like….. dont like to turn anything away. Anyway i pay a little more than normal for the boards but only ordered them this morning from supplier and they arrived this afternoon so i guess you expect to pay a little more for that kind of service, and as i didnt have any in stock i didnt have a lot of choice. -
Hate to do it but bought the boards in ready cut to size………… £42.50 + vat not cheap i know but i dont do much of this sort of thing anymore so no option, vinyl cheap as chips.

MemberMarch 2, 2005 at 6:07 pm in reply to: a good solvent printable vinyl with a 3m type of adhesive?Hi, i have been doing MX graphics for nearly 4 years, started off by buying a thick clear plastic stuff (cant remember the name of it now) i used to screen print it in reverse then hand laminate a 3M type high performance adhesive to it then had to run it through a real old die cutting machine using knife type cutting blades.
Found out about Convex and havn’t used anything else since, run it through my GerberEdge 1 machine and cut it on my GSX plotter. (this was the reason i bought the Geber)
I have never had a problem with convex and the two dealers i supply are really pleased with the stuff i do. However be carefull as Danger UK are very well known and MX riders are very finicky. Ive had a couple of sets of backgrounds sent back to me because “they dont look like Danger’s ones mate” This transpired to mean that the font for the numbers wasnt quite as bold as what Danger UK use. mmm with the price of the Convex you dont want that happening very often !!!
best way forward for getting the shapes needed for the plastics is to get friendly with a local dealer and go measure the bikes it takes a while to get them done but its the best way. -
Hi Gordon,
Thanks for your help mate, but customer has decided not to place the order nothing wrong with the logo’s at all they just couldnt get the sizes needed so i suggested they went back to the original printer. Thanks for your help with this though its very much appreciated and if i ever need some printed garment logo’s again i will be in touch.Thaks again

Hi Gordon,
I received the samples you sent me yesterday thank you. Now i havnt used this before so can you give me an idea as to how its applied? ie what temperature is it applied at and for how long on the press also does the print need protecting with silicone paper while in the press?
I normally use xpres stuff and have no knowledge of the product you have sent me. Thanks for your help so far mate its very much appreciated.

MemberFebruary 14, 2005 at 10:47 am in reply to: can anyone advise what are the limitations of Corel?Hi,
I started out with Corel draw and cut straight from it, have done for the last 6 years! just upgraded to sign lab and although its very good i sometimes “cheat” and go back to Corel to edit and design as i know my way around the program better than signlab. I started with Corel 7 now on Corel 10 but have resisted upgrading as i really must get to grips with Signlab.Dave

Hi,
Here is one i did earlier for a local maggot farm, guess the boss had a sense of humour, it was a bit fiddly but charged accordingly. Whole design cut on my Roland camm 24 using Extra-flex from Xpress. -
Hi Paul,
On the same subject, how do you rate victory’s stuff against expres’s t-shirt vinyls?

Hi,
Just wanna say thanks to all who have offered me advice with this job, especially Dave from Cadlink who called me this morning, and to the people who sent my file back “ready to print” I have done it now and it looks great ! Thanks again for all you help.best rgds
Dave -
Hi Colin,
Yes i agree ive nothing but praise for the guys at Cadlink they have been a great help. As for the guides, yes ive read them cover to cover and keep them handy in the workshop so i can refer to them while im learning. This decal is giving me a real headach though and its not doing what i expect it to do at all. I bet its a real simple solution though, and im sure its just my inexperience that causing the problem.
Thanks
Dave -
Hi,
I know you are just starting out but you really need a heatpress mate, they can be had second hand but they are few and far between. I borrowed a Hix heatpress when i was starting up but the guy got funny with me when he realised how much i was doing and took it back. had to bite the bullet and buy a new one ouch!Best rgds
Dave -
Hi Outline, i tried to do that at first mate and the result was a lot of white areas showng aroung the different colours in the image. Thats why i thought i had to weld it all to get the bleeds but its caused me more trouble. Any other ideas you may have to help me out would be appreciated or i could mai you the plt file?
Bets rgds
Dave -
Yea i could Rob but then it would print as process colours, if you print it in spot colours you get a far superior finish.
Dave
-
Yea sorry its a gerber edge 1
-
Here is the decal im trying to print its 51mm x 39mm
-
Hi Rich,
Been all through mine and i aint got anything like it either, if you do find something could you let me know as it would look good on the motocross shirts i print.

Hi Thanks for that, so by selecting reverse print it will print top layers first finishing off with a flood coat ?

Whats your e-mail address mate and i will send it to you, its in Corel 10 CDR format is that ok?
-
Hi rich had a spare 5 mins and did this for you is it the one you are after?
-
Hi rich thought i had one at least but i aint, however none of the logo’s on their website would be hard to re-draw, which one you after as in their own sticker range there are a few to choose from.
Dave
-
Will have a look for you rich.

hey Dewi,
Where do you get your reflective vinyl and perspex from for your number plates?

Hi,
Well i was told to fill the banner up as much as poss, i want it BIG was the customers request.
banner is a heavy duty one, hemmed with brass eyelets and is written with mactac banner vinyl, i was thinking around the £100 mark for a price but please tell me if im too dear.
Sorry about the photo but i had to hang it on the fence to get the picture. -
Hi Dave,
Use very light pressure mate or you will flatten the pile on the fleece, try a tea towel on top of garment and vinyl before pressing works every time for me. Oh and the best stuff to use on flleece that i have found is the flock material.
Dave

Hi Mandy and Neil, i hope you find it as usefull as i have being part of these forums.
