You could laminate with 1260mm wide fluorescent vinyl . Would probably be more even and a lot less messy ??

    Hi Graza,

You can buy apolar vinyl which either has a very high tack or rubber adhesive for low energy surfaces , only digital vinyl though as far as I know , could you print the black and cut it out maybe ? Or mask out and paint ?

Looks great Anthony. Like the different finishes.

Am sure it will be sold by the metre.

Very few manufacturers of this film hence at present no 1520mm wide , would be a massive investment to make.

Agree with Chris , the ink has reticulated on the surface which suggests a very low dyne level , is the media very old as dyne level reduces over time also the may suffer from plasticiser migration.
Buy a cling specifically for solvent inkjet , it will come in a 1370mm wide format and will be treated to avoid this.

    Hi Lorraine ,

Used to see that with uncoated "digital" blueback that was really designed for turbo jets rather than Roland’s or Mimaki ink jets , seen people hang it up like washing before.
Can buy more expensive blueback coated media designed for said printers that doesn’t suffer from this 60m rolls , still very low priced and a lot less hassle.

    Hi There,

To protect paintwork and graphics etc would suggest a stone guard film , you can get it in a thick PVC apprx 150mic or a PU which is much tougher and more expensive , don’t quote me exactly but prices range from about £8 to £28 per LM in 1260mm wide , just need to protect the most vulnerable parts of the car with this.

    Hope that helps.

In my experience monomeric films don’t work so well on latex printers , possibly because they tend not to have a PE lined backing sheet to help with the heat , also polymeric and cast films are more stable and have a better print surface so would produce much better results.

    MD5 , 3551 , IJ 40 , MPI2000 should all work well.

The best bit of advice i can give to you is to look for courses that are run by companies that are truly impartial to the sales of a vinyl and related products, and that has qualified tutors endorsed by the vinyl manufacturers.

that will greatly narrow down those available.

    Hi All,

Avery Street Graphics might do the trick no one has mentioned it , warrantied for 3 months being driven on and 6 months being walked on , doesnt need an overlaminate , best on a road though rather than speed bumps , it micro fractures on the surface to conforn to the rough surface which also keeps the grip , its also biodegradable so when finished just power wash it away. designed for UV ink and its harder wearing.

Printer and when you are spending £1000 a month with them start having a look round, low or Eco solvent inks shouldn’t block the heads these days, most will have an automatic cleaning function that uses a tiny amount of ink which will stop that happening.

The other reason to laminate is to eliminate the possibility of dirt ingress also when it rains if there is no lamination the water will fill the holes and you can’t see clearly out
For all the extra it costs it’s well worth while.

    Hi Denise,

yes it can be used as a work bench , we will be stocking the Cutting mat so when worn can be replaced easily and cheaply.

    The working areas are RA255Pro 1550 x 2000

    RA355Pro 1550 x 3050 and RA455Pro 4050 x 1650

Because of the extending arms which are a standard feature and also have a media holder on them even the small one can be extended to 3500mm and therefore can flood coat an 8 x 4, an as optional extra you can have extending arms both ends, we have the RA455Pro in Manchester if you want a demo.

price is dependant on the options you choose but the £54 a week for the RA255pro includes delivery, training heavy duty wheels, operating handles both sides, low noise compressor, cutting mat, extending arms with media holder for bigger sheets or flexible media and of course the additional arm behind the roller for vinyl or app tape which you would use for flood coating.

    Hope that helps.

Just my view , we sell Easymounts and Seals but used to sell a chinese version, while the majority of them worked fine and are still going strong a few were faulty and ultimately as there was no comeback cost us a considerable amount either fixing or replacing depending if they developed the fault within warranty or not, 4 from about 64 sold were affected, ours were a good deal more than £700, cant remember ever having a problem with the others.

Just for info, i have a copy of Chapter 8 reg , its about 200 pages long, Chapter 8 for the chevrons on the back only has to apply to Din 12899 – 1 which 5400 , 5600E and many others do do, Conspicuity/Diamond also does and some!! but its personal preference if you choose to use it or not, Conspicuity will become Law for new vehicle perimeters from 10th of July , anything over 7.5 tonnes MUST have the rear and side perimeter marked, metalized conspicuity tape can be cut with scissors no edge sealing required so a good add on sale for the fleet livery guys.

    Hi Peter,

We can get the same Vinyl without the watermark although its actually a very fine lazer etching and really difficult to spot, new laws from the 10th of July mean all reflective graphics must display the ec104 marking. Its digital printable and removable with heat like a regular vinyl/ Oralite 56ooE

    Hi Guys,

many reflectives were designed for road signage and are not meant to come off, you can get good quality engineering fleet marking reflectives now that do come away easily make sure they are EC104 approved, they will have a lazer etched watermark on them, because they are specifically for vehicles the colour range is far wider and they are also digitally printable.

Doesnt help this time though !!

    Hi Again,

Monomeric films are thicker as the solvent displaces the polymers more easily and thicker is good as it makes the film more stable for applying to flat panels or flat sheets, Polymeric and cast are thinner down to 50 mic as they are more stable anyway the solvent ink doesnt displace the polymers so easily, these are more flexible and better for Vehicle graphics etc,
Your using a good all round film thats prints well.

Id try Martins idea, Orcal do a block out in black used for blocking out lightboxes but you would need to buy a full roll as we dont keep it, what about lettering film used for going on reflective signs thats pretty opaque and then a grey backed digital grade on top to make it absolutely opaque.

check with a couple of A4 samples first i think.

Is that a technical term Fred lol , Glad you like it, profiles can be found on both http://www.orafol.de and also Rolands website , if your using genuine inks, third party inks may need some tweaking but it would be the best place to start.
Its a 70mic film polymeric blend 5 yr with a solvent adhesive , great for most vehicle livery that avoids complex curves.

If you print on the white face of Penstick Digital window film the printed face will stick to the inside of the window so you dont need to back it up with white, the solvent ink softens the face to give it similar properties to the rear of the film. its also stocked in clear.

Vinyl is made to be receptive to inks etc this is why you can print onto it, anti graffiti film is hard coated to stop things from keying, overlaminate are not the same by any means, anti graffiti is sold by the meter you can buy 1m at a time if you need to.

    Hi Lorraine,

I agree with Kevin etc re moisture when left unpacked,to help the better grades of digital print Vinyl have a moisture stable backing sheet which also helps keep large area prints flat when drying or outgasing, if its just paper ,Synthetic or Photobase papers will resist curl and stay flatter when printed too, of course they will cost a little more.

    Hi All,

The more expensive foams ie Forex Classic and Foamalux will have a more consistant profile , they tend to be denser , the cheaper foams may have a more variable profile which shows up when laminating, used to be Photolabs would only use Foamalux or Forex Classic although its not like this so much now, could also be the laminate isnt wound tightly throughout the roll and the tension needs to be altered, am no expert by any means but have come across this before.
Never heard of rollers not being straight though?

    Hi There,

You will get a warranty from 2 years to 5 years in writing subject to using OEM inks and the correct matched vinyl/laminate , Oracal / Avery and 3M will all have a warrantied selection but only with Original inks.

    Hi There,

Yep you need an agressive waterbased adhesive, either Fascal supertack or Oracal 1640 high tack are commonly used for this.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Phil,

Sorry Phil, its only an option to have a white core so was thinking it would only be worthwhile with white ACM as about 80% of sales are white, still be good to know what you think.

Take mattys advice , you can buy 10m of wrapping film at a time from some places so extra expense shouldnt be a problem, ask Metamark if they would use it for this application my guess is they will say MD7.

    Hi Jill,

Its a metallized PVC film so should cut similar to 5400 or 5600 reflective , let me know if anything special needed though as we stock this and would be good advice to give if needed.

    Hi All,

Shanes post is spot on although i always shy away from recommending rapid air for deep recesses , ill have a look at the Austrailian web site though , its for this reason we only keep the normal repositionable adhesive version but can get the rapid air from Germany quickly enough if needed.

I agree with the "air free" thing but Avery do warranty it subject to training and completing their online assesment mistakes are easier, Oracal is 1520mm wide but we chose to only stock the standard repositionable adhesive for the same reason,100mic film is easier to work with and remove at the end of life so laminating something like 900 series or 951 would also make life easier if its in the budget.

    Hi Guys,

    Penstick digital self cling.
print on the white side and the printed side sticks to the inside of the window, the more white the better the cling, the solvent ink seems to soften the face and add some cling to it, never had any issues with it, 1370mm x 25m i think.

Alright all you funny guys LOL you know i meant we DO want to help, it really is work in progress and while there is absolutely no excuse for getting orders wrong by letting the relevant Operations manager know at least you can be sure the person responsable will be advised and if its been cut incorrectly the saw operator will soon know about it.
Martin — While we wont be the cheapest on everything what we do aim to offer is a more competative across the range price deal that a buying group of the size UKSB is now should get, clearly it needs to commercially viable but across the board my hope is your prices will be cheaper and with your feedback we can do our best to constantly improve, of course the more you buy the more buying power you have too, we plan to do UKSB special offers which will only go out to those that have registerd to as we dont want to do unsolicited mailshots.
Just to confirm, we are only loading the prices of those that register as its the only way of knowing for sure they are UKSB members , this is agreed by Rob. The new and improved price list is with him and am working on some more changes to the appearace so its easier to read.

Lyn — Thanks for the PM if you can edit the we "Dont" to we "Do" that would be great.

    Hi Guys,

Martin 0 — Please let the appropriate branch manager or internal contact know . the saw operator can be identified and advised. Most manufacturers are struggling to get Resin to manufacture foam, one we spoke to last week had an order book for 4 weeks and resin to make 2 weeks of stock , this is part of whats driving prices up.

Martin — Whats your account name ? have you registered on the members section and filled out the details asked for by RHG, all those prices should be loaded now and infact some have just been reduced. Only those who have filled out the forms have been loaded as its in the members area and stops confusion over who is a member or not.

Vinyl Corp dont buy directly from Orafol.

We dont want to help guys and if you have done the above please let me know and i will sort out for you.

    Hi Guys,

Akyprint is indeed PP but rather than fluted its flat sheets laminated either side of circular bubbles , makes it very strong, its a little one sided and more expensive than fluted but interesting all the same, we sold it for a while.
New second generation UV inks do seem to work, was at a Vutek demo with a colleugue who was determined to scratch a newly printed fluted panel, he had to resort to a key to prove his point LOL, we watched it being printed at 70m2 pr hour and tried to scratch it straight away!!

    HI Natasha,

    re your quote

My head’s in a spin with all this now! I know that our distributors know that there’s a problem but in the mean time we’re losing money testing rolls and sending them back!

Re the above, if Avery worked and you never had problems chnage back until WM Smiths solve the problem?

Try the other Avery distributor if thats the issue maybe the support will be better.

Hope its not us that didnt support you.

    Hi There,

Definately agree , the vinyl you printed on will or should have a matching overlaminate that ideally should be cast on the same machine and have identical characteristics to the film.

When put together you are simply creating a thicker vehicle wrap film.

A tip from manfred (he with the pony tail) if you want to use 900 or 951 , cover it with the appropriate film either Dol1080 or 3951 and use command form on the surface , you will effectively have a 100mic film with repositionable adhesive with a choice of about 120 colours !!

900 series is a 50mic film with a permanent adhesive, it will be much harder to apply than 970 series which is a double cast 100mic thick and repositionable.

We sell both so am not being biased.

    Hi There,

In the UK we stock 970 series with repositionable adhesive, RA adhesive isnt so good on recesses as the adhesive gaps stretch and there may be some areas that dont adhere to the van, use the standard 970 series and heat to 120dg you wont have any problems.

October 28, 2009 at 11:31 am in reply to: Matt black vehicle wrap film supplier anyone??

    Hi Peter,

On some Peter the adhesive is coated in the normal way the backing sheet has the grids in which the adhesive takes the shape of to form the air channels, if stretched too far the adhesive in the channels which is a thinner layer than the rest breaks apart and doesnt get a good enough grab to the very ares it needs to grab most.

There are a few on the market that use this technology.

    Hope that makes sense.

    Hi Soyab,

Be careful using "air escape" technology, if you stretch it too much the lines in the adhesive will stretch and parts that don’t have any adhesive on will fail.

A proper wrap film will have a re-positionable adhesive and they guy on the Orafol video uses command form that creates an invisible barrier to make application easier , read the instructions first but he swears by it.

    Hi There,

How long ago was it painted? can take as long as 3 weeks to cure , if applied too soon the solvents can outgas causing bubbles etc, if its a cast vinyl it should be thin enough for them to escape through in a short while.

    Hi All,

In my opinion , use lightweight or Hoarding panlel when laminating onto and when its being supported by something , when its self supported or on poles etc use the heavy weight material.

The lightweight and hoarding are only available in white.

Have you seen wood and smoke mirror glass Dibond ?
