  • Chrome Wrapping Vinyl, Who stocks it?

Posted by David.Anderson on August 16, 2013 at 8:54 pm

I know this subject has continued debates about legality (and taste) 😉

I was thinking the black to wrap my car. I feel it’s a lot less in your face, more subtle, and could still create great impact for us. I went through the usual channels for a sample, Robert Horne and William Smith didn’t stock it.

Are there any other ‘reputable’ vinyls out threre that do it in the UK or would it need to be imported?

    Seen Hexis mentioned before.

you can get the new avery swatch book from robert horne which contains the chrome, nice book about 6 inch by 4 inch swatches.
your talking about £90ish per linear metre for the chrome.

This picture of the new Avery Colour Swatch is poor. sorry, just took it on my phone…

i have to say, this is probably the best swatch book ive seen so far.
large colour sample swatches, large range of colours and finishes.

the picture is terrible as it does nothing for the colour range.
some very nice colours in the range indeed.

another swatch book i was sent recently with some amazing colours was Arlons wrapping films. but dont have the book at hand, sorry.

yes got that sample book, much better than the older one, got one of these a while ago, which came with the silver chrome. might need to find out if they got one with the colured chrome yet

arlon colours are great, just finished a full wrap in arlon red aluminum yesterday, and the colour looks great, first time using the material too

defiantly need to find out about black chrome, might have someone interested in that colour

Thanks for uploading the Arlon Swatch book David, makes the thread much more interesting and useful to readers of the post.

Ghais, the new Avery chrome colours are not stocked yet by anyone.
Only Chrome is available at the moment. I recon it will be a couple of months yet before its readily available.

    Hi there,
I’ve been speaking to two stockists of Avery about this chrome wrap…and they have both yet to get back to me…in the mean-time, as this post was from last August…has there been any other recommended suppliers of chrome ‘wrap’ any one would care to share?
    many thanks
    Cheryl

I would be interested in this as well, I get my new ‘work’ van next month and would like to wrap it in something different, has anyone ever wrapped anything in black chrome? Any more difficult than normal wrap vinyl?

oh yes, its not conformable really… Hexis do some at £118 odd a meter!…Avery have withdrawn their stock over some sort of ‘issue’ as they told me, they are supposed to be sending me an email…………………………………….
not the sort of thing to be issuing guarantees with apparently.

its more expensive from them and that not even including carriage.

    4ft x 4ft = £144.60
you still have carriage costs etc

plus i only see one more colour than listed above "red" and if its not already available in europe, i am sure it soon will be.

its a chrome cast but is meant for car detailing, an accent film etc. its not a wrapping cast.
there are no true wrapping chrome/mirrored films available globally. even though it is often used for wrapping…

Chris, forget doing a commercial vehicle in this. it will not conform to recessed areas.
you will also be looking at paying about £100+ per linear metre. (48inch wide)

It appears you have a Paperlinx branch in Poland.
I would suggest calling them for swatches. Paperlinx do supply Avery vinyl, but i dont know about the Polish branch.

Well done for getting a sample…noone has bothered to respond to my queries apart from Hexis..that includes Robert Horne ….I also see why this cannot be guaranteed, the samples I got through the post were scratched…it takes some looking after and the smallest grain on your squeegee could wreck this very expensive material…wouldnt want to do it to anyones car but my own.

Did a roof wrap in the Hexis and it wasn’t even conformable enough for that.

glad I didn’t take on the mini roof wrap then Jon…wasnt going to do it without trying out a sample, and the A5 bit I was sent wasn’t going to be good enough.

Really, well if buying 4ft x 60ft its $2105 including $212 carriage and if you also include VAT its still a little cheaper

I am just quoting the prices taken directly from "their website".

I would not import ANY vinyl these days. there is far too much counterfeit vinyl being sold. (Fake)
If i have a failure that is not my own fault ide like to be able to turn to the supplier for some form of support. My opinion is, there is very little money to be saved when wrapping based on the cost of the media. if we price our jobs correct, the media cost is very little.

that said, if i could not source a media finish in the UK and it was a must. i would buy from overseas, but from an official supplier of the media brand.

Ive ordered vinyl wrap from America, mainly for testing and was only charged for VAT

Sorry Ghais, you are correct, you did not. In that case, my original reply would still be correct then.
