Vehicle wrap or ordinary Vinyl?

Hi, i would personally use wrap vinyl, laminated as we did some transits like that a few years ago, straight forward we thought, just feed it and not stretch it over the recess….big mistake within no time at all the vinyl began to pull out and had to be re-done…at our cost.

We got 3 transits like that for the company next door to us, we used 5 yr Avery MP2000 and that is still in there after 6 months.

Hi

We’d use MD5 for that layout, the print only goes across a straight horizontal recesses so we’d work it / fold it under and down the recess so its’ not actually stretched in at all. BUT you have to be careful as if you do get even a slight stretch it will pop out with MD5 on a new transit.

If your print were slightly to the left on the van then we’d use wrap as it would go into a recess corner with both horizontal and vertical recesses to get into. In this scenario if proper wrap material made it too expensive for the customer then we’d offer them MD5 with the recesses cut -ie. bridge over then scalpel round – leaves the white showing but the customer can make an informed choice.

I agree with David.

Let the customer choose. Wrapping vinyl is called wrapping vinyl for a reason. Although there really isn’t a problem working the MD5 in and out the recess, any stretch at all will fail at a later date.

Thanks for the help guys. The client is very fussy and wants a long lasting job at the best possible price so he will either have to go for wrap or i go back to the drawing board!

When you say feed it in Ian what do you mean? do not heat and stretch?

Yes, that he means.

Any heating in/stretching will cause tension on the vinyl and MD5 will want to go back to its original form ie. pop out the recess.

Wrapping vinyl once heated will erase its memory and SHOULD stay put!

By feed it in, Ian means start at the top and work down, don’t stretch the vinyl. use a finger to work into the recess, and dont let the vinyl touch where you dont want it to stick.
Hard to explain in words. but if you dont know how, then wrap or md5 will give problems
if not done properly.

I thought that was the case but just wanted to be sure! I am happy to feed it down and had positioned it with that in mind. I.e away from corners.

Take mattys advice , you can buy 10m of wrapping film at a time from some places so extra expense shouldnt be a problem, ask Metamark if they would use it for this application my guess is they will say MD7.
