Thanks for a once again speedy response,
Broad band EH, I wish I could get it, one of the downfalls of living in a small village in the depths of north wales.
One famous poet called where I live ‘A little bit of heaven on earth’ anyone know who it might be???
Tara, till the next time
-
I know this might be a bit late but I use this one all the time and the customers love it.
-
Spot on Andy, cheers for the advice.
I know the running costs are high but let the business buy your toys is my motto.
It could be used for many applications, including a few lucrative ones that I am dreaming about.
will have a look now, more info on the crack back paper would be great
-
PS, does anyone know the running costs per page of these printers??
-
£90 to £140 you say, I was charging around £65 including the wheelcover for a single colour and £10 per additional colour, maybe I need a rethink.
I would like to know what others charge.
No wonder I aint making any money at them.

Welcome to the boards,
Just do what I do, think of something, type it in, dont read it afterwards just hit submit.
Then read it later and get embarassed about all the speling miskates and grammer faults.
Who cares, I have always spoken feet first and wont change now.

An up and over door is about right,
I am building a garage with my old man at the moment and it is having a spnking new 10foot door, it is the type that is in sections and runs on a track which goes up and over. the opening is about 6’6″ high and you need about 18″ of headroom above the door to allow the door to finish flush with theopening when closed.
I think these doors with electric motor mech are about £1200.
I have no idea how roller shutter doors compare in price.
Hope it is of help, try Ebay, OOPS sorry getting a bit carried away with ebay at the moment, selling anything that doesnt move.

Hi Oz,
If you are like me you will be going through the posts late at night when all and sundry are in bed.
My missus takes the mick when I spend more than an hour replying to threads on this site, but who cares.
I have gained soo much experience from members of the board that I probably would have thought stuff this for a game even before I started.
Considering we are all in competition with each other no one really holds back with a helping hand.
One day I might be able to contribute something back to the ‘OLD’ 😉 die hards of the trade

Doesnt matter about vector format, just some format that can be easily transferred to sign software.
Am I lazy or just to busy trying to earn a living doing other work.
-
Cheers for the download steve, 😀
Not quite what I am looking for but the RS2000 one will come in very handy.
Even so they will sit proudly in my clipart archive and should come in very useful.
The picture of the old Mk1 is spot on, anyone interested in photos of that sort could try my other website that I run for my local car club, http://www.welshbordercarclub.co.uk
You will see a few of my younger years antics, which will hopefully be rekindled soon.
Hope someone comes through with the clipart for the escorts. Fingers crossed.
Tidy.

Hey Lorraine,
I think you are right, The cost of their windows compared to sourcing materials and trying to cut the windows etc could prove to be a lot more time consuming and lets face it time is money. one van signed up will pay for a set of windows.
-
I use Frontpage, it is similar to use as Word etc and you can cut and paste etc etc, I have found it really easy to use.
For uploading I use WSFTP which is pretty simple to setup.
I like Mikes view, life is too short, you will spend a good deal of time getting to grips with frontpage alone, with out trying to learn html.
-
Steve,
Having seen this van with my naked eye I can tell you that I knew exactly what you did as soon as I saw it.
I am always on the look out for competition in my area and just driving past your Van in Corwen It caught my eye and told me that you did painting and vehicle graphics just with a glimpse.
I believe that A sign writers vehicle should look a bit special otherwise who is going to let you loose on their own spanky new van.
You probably dont lose too much work with a van looking like yours.
I think that if a van is too fancy it can be unreadable in the short time as the vehicle passes by.
Trying to find the line between easily readable and looking fancy and professional is very difficult, especially for a first year novice such as myself but I will hopfully get there before too long.

Durable signs came all the way down to the darkest depths of Wales the other night, and what a wet and windy night it was too.
Anyway, they came all that way to demonstrate their product to my local community council. They will probably get £130 worth of work from it but it may lead to other things in the future.
I can recommend their demo to any company looking to supply quality vandal resistant signs. I will be going with them so long as the council agree to the price.
The other good point is that Durable only deal direct to sign makers and not with joe public so no prices were discussed at the demo.
Thanks to Durable signs for a worth while meeting.

I am in the process of buying a chevette road rally car but am unsure if it has perspex windows or not as yet.
This months Retro Cars magazine is running an article on plastic windows and there is a company called plastics 4 performance
http://www.plastic4performance.co.uk -
Paul,
I am looking to change the glass out of my rally car for plastic is this the stuff to use then?? how much does it cost?
I know that I can get plastic windows for my car ready cut for £150
-
Thanks for all the Brilliant Advice (:) (:)
And Thanks most of all for the Durable Signs Link, they are the business.
Will go with them I think.
-
Spot on,
Thanks Phil
-
-
Thanks, you are all very helpful.
I have probably enough horses now but could really do with a couple of border collies if possible, I already have one from Lorraine and have sorted the importing problem out by saving the format in an older version.
-
Thanks you two,
I have now found that my software only works with true type fonts
-
😳 sorry mate, us boyos should stick together on here 😉
I must say I am impressed with the amount of stuff you have got hold of, I seem to remeber you sorting me out a few times now with logos and fonts etc, it is all very much appreciated. Diolch.
-
Chalkie you are absolute star, it aint right what they say about south walians, I bloody loves em I do.
-
I have had the same problem with my Graphtec plotter but it doesnt stop altogether, it will pause for a while and then carry on. I use different software to you though.
Do you use a parallel or serial port???
try using the other to what you are using and see if it cures the problem.
-
Many thanks to all,
Job done, camberic it was, another happy victim of ceiriog signs on its way 😆
-
Thanks John,
They are perfect, just the ticket and the customer loves it.
😀 😀 😀
-

-

MemberMay 19, 2003 at 9:33 pm in reply to: Do you do artworks before OR after taking deposits? As a beginner in the sign trade, I offer free no obligation estimates to all customers, including a digital photo of what there shopfront or vehicle will look like once finished.
I must point out that there isnt really a lot of complicated artwork at the moment but most quotes take me around an hour to two hours to complete. I am pretty hungry for the work at the moment and sitting in front of the PC for a few hours in the evening is a damn site better than coronation street in my mind.If the customer goes for the sign then the estimate, although free initially, has the time spent designing and producing the estimate incorporated.
I am pretty competitive and havnt had anyone not come back and have the work done yet.
It all depends on whether you are hungry enough to take the risk of spending a few hours designing for nothing.
At present I am.

I had to alter a banner last week, a date change for a local charity.
I used some FLuxclene which is actually Printed cct board cleaner that I had knocking around. It is excellent for cleaning off glue and dirt residues and I havnt found any materials that it damages as yet. It is available from RS i had some knocking around from a previous generous employer 😆 -
-
Here are a few examples of my work, the wales one sold at £85 but should have gone for a bit more I think. It was my first and I now realise it took a bit longer than I priced.
I use banner vinyl on the type of covers I buy because although they are hard plastic they are still pretty flexible.
-
How much should a van like that cost to do???
I am having problems with builders at the moment, they are quibbling about having four sides of their transit vans sign written in basic lettering for around the £160 mark (no Vat)
-
B&Q, Wilkinsons are pretty cheap, halfords etc,
-
PS – where is the cheapest supplier for foamex and what sort of prices should I pay for 8’x4′ sheets of say 5mm and 10mm board.
-
-
I use a cutting edge bought from JAG sign supplies, it was a bit expensive but it has a nonslip mat on the underside and a good finger protector.
I havnt had any slips or dodgy cuts since. Well worth the cash so far but I dont know how long the non slip material will last.
-
NEW MAN possibly, but the thing is – She has got her shed full of the gardening gear for her use, The kids have got their own shed full of toys and I have got My own shed full of my toys 😆
thanks for all the tips lads
-
Cheers Lads,
Just remembered, the wife bought a green bosh heat gun for stripping some paint last year, will have to go and raid her garden shed when she aint looking. 😆
-
-
PS file is handpainted and is copyrighted by the owner
-
Cheers Lads, that is a very good demo.
The problem I have got is that the pub sign is made from GRP and has a moulded frame that sticks up about 20mm from the flat surface so the method shown will not work for me.
I have tried using the hinge method with a piece of vinyl cut to the exact size of the panel.
Maybe I need a different applicator? I am using 3M Gold at the moment.
Even had the wife helping me the last attempt 😳 and we did get a better result.
Maybe I am too fussy, but it is a sign to advertise my business and wants to be perfect.
-
Welcome Jason,
I too am relatively new,
I find this board an excellent place for good friendly advice.

WALES WALES WALES, hope we dont get too many more Welsh Signmakers, this country just aint big enough for us all. There will be more signmakers than decent rugby players soon.
If Carlsberg made countries WALES would probably be the best in Country in the World 😆
-
Yep road rallying is still very strong, especially in Wales, I often see stickers on cars saying ‘leave road rallying to the welsh’ 😀 many people who have moved into Wales still try and stop our very popular sport though (:) , Road rallies that I have run in years gone by, we always had screen printed plates for around the same money you are talking about.

Gav,
In My experience, we used to run several dual monitor pc’s in my last company, you have a dual output video card in your PC and cable up both monitors seperately.
The monitors and then software driven to almost any configuration you like, we always had ours set to a widscreen type format so your start button was on the bottom left of the left monitor and the clock was on the bottom right of the right one. the mouse cursor would just jump from one to the next as could you drag open windows between monitors at ease.
hope this answers your question.

IF you thought your New dell was cheap, I have a pal who can supply Dell Pc’s direct to your door from dell at cheaper prices than you can buy them at their website.
Only problem is that it has to be full cash upfront.
just supplied a P4 2.0 with 17″ monitor, 256mB, DVD/Writer combo, combined lexmark printer scanner, etc etc, with next business day onsite 3yr warranty for £850. pretty good I thought.
