• 4×4 Wheelcovers

Posted by paddy on November 14, 2003 at 10:32 pm

It has been a long time since I did any wheelcovers but now have 6 to do in the space of a week.

Anyone know the going rate for one off covers at present?

Also, in the past I used banner vinyl on semi rigid covers as per Jag Signs supply, am I correctin using this material or will regular vinyl suffice?

Most covers I have seen made by other companies have been in Glossy vinyl and the banner vinyl I have is matt.

What to use????? I have used glossy 7 year metmark on one before because the customer wanted a specific colour which was unavailable in banner vinyl.

I will stop going on now, please someone help.

    Paddy,

I use banner material on my wheel covers – always for the main round panel (if it needs one to give a specific colour or hide an existing printed message) and often for the detail too – though that depends on available colours etc. The banner material allows it all to flex with the wheel cover and it gives a nice semi-satin finish that doesn’t ‘flare’ in the lights of the car following at night.

usually apply wet (panel) and allow a day to cure and then apply the decoration dry. I tend to use a felt applicator as a hard plastic one might dig in as the wheel cover ‘dishes’ as you’re squeegeeing…

I’ve never bought a cover – I always insist the customer brings their own…we charge between £90-140 to decorate one…

    more soon

£90 to £140 you say, I was charging around £65 including the wheelcover for a single colour and £10 per additional colour, maybe I need a rethink.

I would like to know what others charge.

No wonder I aint making any money at them.

Paddy I think location plays a big part in the pricing of any signage, why not phone one of the other local sign companys and see what they charge, or get a mate to call in on them.
We use the semi ridged covers with the ABS centre and we use 751 as the centre is a hard plastic, we also make sure it gets a good heat.
We charge about £60 for one colour provided it doesnt have any complex logos so we are pretty much the same as yourself. If we tried to charge much more people would simply go else where.

If Mike ‘knocked out’ a sign for a wheel cover then I guess he’d charge the same

But does Mike ‘knock out’ signs?

Wow! Im moving to Oxfordshire I ll be RICH!!! Yes I would say about £60 + £15 per extra colour on singles-as regards gloss or matt, as a printer our general rule of thumb is “match the ink finish to the surface finish” most wheelcovers are matt so matt it is! Incidentally does it irritate vinyl cutters to see a matt surface decorated with a blatantly high gloss vinyl or is it just me…Take care Will
