Can anyone please tell me the best way to laminate a large area with vinyl. 🙁

I have tried several times today to laminate a second hand fibreglass pub sign with white vinyl and got pretty shocking results. More bubbles than an aero.

The size of the panel is approx 500mm x 950mm.

I am stuck, everything I try is a mess of bubbles.

Maybe a step by step demo would help me please???

paddy.. quickest solution to this would be to check my demo on covering corex with vinyl.. works on same basis mate..

i have been sorting demos out left right and centre over the last few weeks ill start to load them this week i hope.. 😉

Sounds like you should be going to signschool… 😉 😉
Seriously though, have a look at the demo as Robert suggested and if you’re still struggling post again and I’ll talk you through it.

Cheers Lads, that is a very good demo.

The problem I have got is that the pub sign is made from GRP and has a moulded frame that sticks up about 20mm from the flat surface so the method shown will not work for me.

I have tried using the hinge method with a piece of vinyl cut to the exact size of the panel.

Maybe I need a different applicator? I am using 3M Gold at the moment.

Even had the wife helping me the last attempt 😳 and we did get a better result.

Maybe I am too fussy, but it is a sign to advertise my business and wants to be perfect.

    Hi
just a suggestion dont apply vinyl use a bit of 600 grit wet and dry and spray it and then apply graphics. Sometimes vinyl isn’t the easiest solution at the end of the day you want a good sign which promotes your business the fact that the backing board is finished with spray paint will hopefully just help the vinyl graphics standout that bit more.

Just another option Paddy if you are having trouble floodcoating the panel with vinyl. Why not cut a foamboard insert to fit within the frame. If you have a 20mm frame all the way round by inserting either a 5mm or even a 10mm board you will still have a decent frame around the outside and you know you will have a good surface to apply graphics to.
You can either no more nails or double sided tap the board in place so you wont see any fixings.
