    Hi people,
i seem to have a problem with my plotter/cutter-whilst trying to cut a fair sized amount of text(file size 253kb) the plotter STOPS!!!! arghhhh!!!!
1st time it was only 12% done, secon attempt it made it to 32% and the final try took it up to the heady heights of 70%.I think i’ve checked all the settings and all seems ok.i’m, running flexi pro7 against a graphtec plotter/cutter. Any ideas ???

I have had the same problem with my Graphtec plotter but it doesnt stop altogether, it will pause for a while and then carry on. I use different software to you though.

Do you use a parallel or serial port???

try using the other to what you are using and see if it cures the problem.

If you are running it on a serial port it may be a handshaking problem.

Check your cutter settings match that of the serial port.

Check your CMOS (on boot) on the LPT port is set to standard or SPP not EPP or Bi-directional.

If not reinstall drivers, then / or reinstall software.

    Had this once years ago.

We use serial connections, that’s all you get on a Mac, and it turned out to be a problem with the data buffer in the cutter. It took a service engineer and some new components to put it right.

I hope that your problem is not so serious.

I have had a similar problem recently. I’m running Sign wizard 5.1 and XP. I had exactly the same problem. I spoke to the support guy and he told me that it was windows sending the file to the wrong printer. I had to uninstall all my other printers, re boot and that fixed it in the short term.
He then recommended that I use serial instead of parallel this way the computer won’t get confused. I did and it works very well now.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks for all the replies folks
I am using a parallel connection on xp with loads of free memory.
It isn’t the multiple printer scenario because the plotter is the only ‘printer’ on that pc.
I certainly take on board the CMOS thought and will double check that one tomorrow.
After taking a deep breath at 0735 this morning,i kicked up and gave it another chance!!! and guess what?—- all was fine!!!! for two complete cuts(8’X4′) and then it gave up again in mid cut. So i thought i could “con” the machine into thinking it had been to bed, and re-booted the system……Hooray…For 4 more cycles. Thinking the worse i had a quick glimpse about the plotter and, would you believe it, the power switch was in mid position. The ‘whip’ of the vinyl whilst tracking back had switched the power off. reset all this and its been OK since.
    Thanks again guys
