Hi Bart, Version 111 still has same fault as version 1 then?

All i do is lift up the handle & let it re set it self again, usually works on 2nd time.

Or does yours keep on doing it.

This fault can also happen if the front of the machine has very strong light shinning on it……..it baffles the sensor.

Hi Lynn, Our fish pond at home has recently had 15 baby Goldfish, so i don’t think we want anymore as yet.

Mike, Customer already had a similar design on the back of a Bus, so he gave me that on a Cd in eps format. As i was looking for the originals I came across them & more on Beeline Cd’s so he was thrilled to bits that i could improve on his original artwork.
This has been a pleasure to work on as it is so different to my normal work……….I actually enjoyed it. & he paid up on completion 😀

Was this job printed in strips & sewn together?

John, I understand what you are saying, however, when you look back at Gav’s original post, he is clearly asking what type of printer would be suitable for printing directly to banner, not “should I buy a printer or sub out”. The fact still remains with the printers currently on the market it will still be more beneficial to Gav to print in house!
    Chris

Yes but what Gav doesn’t say is whether he has taken into account the extra expense on top of a new printer for setting himself up (as you have) to do the finishing of the banners by buying a decent plastic welder or sewing machine. Also does he realise the room he will need to lay out big banners?

IF he is just starting out in this business, i still say he’s better off subbing them out till he’s built up a big enough customer base & tested the water. Then decide if he wants the big expense.

1st of all Chris you have to realise that i bought my Rockhopper 1, 4 years ago on lease hire, Just finished paying for it in June. Compered with new printers mine prints so slow it’s unbelievable. I need to replace it i know but it will have to be later not sooner as i have recently bought a laminater & took on the unit next door & replaced 3 computers etc, etc..

Secondly, i have an eyelet machine but no welder or industrial sewing machine, so i find that taking my printed banners to a local "lorry sheet maker" the best way to finish them at a cost of £10 to sew the hem & eyelet them…..i have to pay out for diesel, use of my van & pay Julie half an hours wages to take it to the sheet maker & pay the same again next day to go & collect it.

So it works out far cheaper to sub it out & let us get on with other more profitable work back at the unit.

Yes my printer can & does cause problems recently (since finishing paying for it) whether i am printing banners or wraps, but i allow more time to print wraps where as banners i can sub out & forget about them.

In my situation i still say it’s not only cheaper to sub out but also a dam site easier & less hassle.

I pay about £26 for 6′ x 2′ up to about £39 for 10′ x 3′, as i say not worth me doing my own unless i have nothing else to do.

As Peter says there are firms out there that can print them far cheaper that we can (approx £35) because that is all they do, they don’t make fascia signs, or letter vehicles or wrap vehicles………all they do is printed banners or lettered banners. They are geared up only for that purpose so they can produce them far cheaper than those of us with printers can do.

All you have to do is the design & email to them, approx a week later they turn up on your door step. All you do is put on your mark up & phone the customer to say they are ready……….what could be better.
No paying out approx £10 – £30,000 for a printer, then you need to buy an eyelet machine & a plastic welder or industrial sewing machine.

I USED to print my own banners, but now i have found this firm that Peter & I are on about i wouldn’t even bother switching on my printer for that price, (£35)

Another major thing to think about is when you have your own printer what happens when the dam thing lets you down & needs repairing (when it’s out of warranty) average costs for repairs approx £1,000.

Just think how many banners you would need to print at £35 each to make enough profit to pay that bill.

Take my advice sub out the work & put a healthy profit margin on top, sit back & let someone else worry about repairs, breakdowns & deadlines.

Do yourself a favour go on a wrapping course after you have bought your printer & learnt how to use it, & specialise in printing vehicle wraps……..bigger profit margin & sub out the banners.

sorry to go on but this is all from recent experiences.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do.

I laminate most of my stuff by hand. I’ll probably look at a laminator early next year.
At the moment, its easy to apply by wet application.

    Cheryl

    Hi Cheryl,
Hope you aren’t hand laming with water when using wrapping vinyl over recesses?
Would not advise this as the adhesive on the clear needs to be 100% in contact with the print.

I know through experience………even the same when laminating with the machine but not left the print long enough to out gas before laminating.

curved part to rest your knee on, cuts fine with heavy duty blade, one man or women operation over a 10 x 5′ sheet.

Couldn’t get the one for the edge of bench even though the bench is 20′ x 6′ as there is only 2′ walk around space between bench & wall.

Thanks for your comments both of you ladies.
To be honest it was our 1st attempt & we only wrapped it in stages in other words in between jobs, so it probably took us 2 days instead of one. The part that was the hardest to do neatly was the door mirrors. We took out the glass but still found them very difficult to finish them off neatly. i think we did one of them twice to get it right.

years ago when i was a welder on the steel works, we were always given a pint of milk to drink before you started your shift. This was to line your throat against the fumes, i would think it would do the same to a degree for paint fumes. The pint of beer is for after you have finished to take the taste of the milk away 😉

Hi my name is James Deacon and this is my first reply to a thread I have over 5 years experience in vehicle wrapping (you may have seen me on the grafityp stand at sign UK!). Never cut holes in vans – that’s for starters the air with the grafiwrap system can be pushed out after the recess has been done just ensure its in the flat section of the recess and is in a least noticeable area/colour etc I also use the straw technique and also flapping back the wrap to a corner and passing air to it.

Hi James……………….I have had the pleasure of watching James wrapping ……..absolutely brilliant………….just wish i could afford to employ you mate.

I find that the only fine lines i get with my Rocky 62" is with the magenta so i have to do a power wash 2 or 3 times before a session which seems to cure it till next time i print which could be 2 0r 3 days later.

Was the fine lines through all colours or just one colour?

Hi Phil, try & persuade him that it would look good as his business name but would spoil the look if it was used throughout.

Since you posted that demo Rob we have used that same idea at least 20 times so far………me thinks i must send you a %. 😉

Customers always happy to spend another £25 per rear window (usually x 2 per van) as they think it takes ages to fit them. 😳

    Hi Matt,
I think you will find a lot of us on here use National Farmers Union.
We changed over to them last year & saved ourselves just over £2,000 for the year. This is between my business & my wife’s. Between us we have 4 vans 1 car & 1 classic car, 2 units, So total the vehicles, units & employers insurance with the public liability it totalled a saving of over £2,000. We have just renewed for this year with only a slight increase.

    Hope this helps.

PS what happened about your spare ink carts?

It was brand new when i took it in lieu of unpaid bills but never used it, so it’s still brand new. Zebra Z6000 6" wide… few rolls with it & green ribbons.
