  • Christmas – Could they really ban it?

Posted by Phill Fenton on September 18, 2006 at 6:18 pm

I don’t know how many of you have heard this already, but apparently the Scottish Parliament are due to hold a debate about whether or not to ban Christmas Celebrations. Apparently there is a view that not everyone in this country celebrates this event and it has been deemed discriminatory to continue to celebrate it in the way we currently do. More attention should be given to important calender events celebrated by other religious groups such as Moslem’s and Pagans (e.g Midsummer by certain Pagan groups, and October 31st by Certain religious groups). Obviously not every ones taste can be accommodated. So to make things fairer, and to ensure that no minority group feels left out – there is a proposal to raise a motion to ban Christmas and Easter celebrations. 🙄

    I thinks it’s daft

    What do you think?

Don’t even get me started on this 👿

I think it is outragous. There was something about this last year where councils I think it was in Norfolk were not allowing xmas lights as they didn’t budget for them because of the reasons you mentioned, (in other words they would offend certain faiths).

If thats what the majority celebrate then thats how it should be, I’m sick and tired of PC jobsworths bowing down to MINORITIES, I feel our country is loosing our identity as it is, but with stupid ideas like this, it will only increase the decline.

    I could go on. 👿

”WHEN IN ROME” thats what I say!!

It is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard ………. but not entirely surprising in this pathetic politically correct climate. Scotland/Britian is a christian country to all intents and purposes and should be allowed to remain so. It is our heritage more than anything else and is something that no warp minded eejit sitting in parliament should even be considering. If this was to be passed, although IMHO shouldn’t even have arisen in the first place, then I would seriously consider moving abroad.

I would not be upset or against any other religious occassion being celebrated in this country, I don’t think many of us would. But to ban christmas and easter is beyond comprehension.

EDIT: ………. hey….. we’re paying their wages to debate it!!!! 👿

ban xmas ? easter ? not in my house, i want a gollywog on my jam too.

hmmmm, i have a good use for all those big empty containers around the country, firstly we round up anyone who is not legally allowed to be here, secondly we then round up anyone who ‘is offended’ by our traditions or way of life, thirdly we collect all the supporters, the bleeding hearts, the scroungers, and the polititians resonsible for allowing them to ‘be offended’,

then, we stuff em all into he reduntant containers, and send a big ship on a long journey.

oh yeah, that idiot Minge bloke who leads the way out lefty liberal brigade will be strapped to the outside of one, hopefully one that falls off mid atlantic, just cos the arrogant git thinks i should pay £2k a year to tax my 4×4

Im not going to have a go at various religions/faiths etc but this country is going to the dogs, we are going so ott in respect of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS its getting a joke.
The Christmas ban lmao, ban it or not it will still go on and who will enforce the ban? mmm
Iv heard rumours that the WORD Christmas is to be replced by the WORD Festive as the work Christmas is derived from Christian Faith which due to political correctness is now racism !!! Im so holding my tongue and fingers here you would not believe 🙄 1 point i would like to make is this is the United Kingdom and british people born bred here for generations are now being told we must change the way we live/work and generally do things we have done and said for generations because of the amount of foreign people coming to the uk, ie we must not upset these people coming over here ! What about OUR RIGHTS as British!!! politicly correct or not you travel to any other country especially the middle east and ask them to change something because it upsets YOU and the reply isYou come to our country you RESPECT OUR WAYS if you dont like our ways then leave. Well if you go to mass and dont spend a fortune on christmas and dont get bloated and p1ssed, then you have a reason to complain if its banned, otherwise I would just rename it. The winter break that is an excuse to have a good time, in preparation for Hog marn hay.
after all it is supposed to be a religious celebration and not a commercial cash cow…

I though Christmas was banned already over there or is that just England. An old law going back to some guy with a tail called Oliver i think.

I think the PC bunch should be fecked off into containers on to a big container ship that sinks.

Christmas was banned in our local hospital due to one yes one! complaint by a black muslim woman who felt it was an offence to her and she was only visiting. None of the other patients or doctors from the other faiths gave a damm. WE have to do things there way in there country so why cant they just let us do our thing it is our country after all.

when people stop thinking that they are better than others because they were born in a geographic area then wars might end. There are no borders in this world that have not been made by politicians or religious leaders.

Capitulating to these demands for a sanitised culture, devoid of public expressions of non threatening celebration doesnt exactly promote the concept of ‘tolerance’ does it? We have to learn to live together and mutually respect each others beliefs. If a cultures ways and traditions so offend somebody then maybe thay shouldnt be there. Very soon our goverments will realise that you ‘can’t be all things to all men!’ What about Sanity Clause? 😀 😀

Ban Christmas? Do me a lemon. The rich run this country. The same rich who make an awful lot of moolah during the Christmas/Pagan spend-fest.

I wouldn’t be surpised to see the word ‘Christmas’ phased out though. I believe it is already being referred to as ‘The Holiday Season’. I’d assumed that was due to the pathetic Americanisation of our language rather than political correctness.

Every time I hear the phrase ‘Holiday Season’ I’m going to punch an MP in the face. Repeatedly.

Brian the whole point of the race laws was to try and get people live together without slagging each other off. Racism is all in the mind if you think you cant say things without being branded a racist, you probably are,
I lived in london at the time of the Brixton and hackney riots, so I do have a bit of an insight.

By the way the Scotts and Irish are all thick, so cant give an opinion.

That got your attention, I’ll bet, but that is the type off remark that should never be made to anyone.

But I think if you go back a bit you will find it was all under the British Empire.
The point is them telling us what we should and shouldn’t say and do to be politically correct and not racist .

Governments and politician’s Forget why they are there !

To represent and speak for the public of their country Instead they tell us what they think we should do.

I think Harry has hit the nail on the head. It’s not to do with racism but everything to do with integration. The government have got it ar$e for elbow as usual. No Christmas should not be banned, how people choose to celebrate is their choice. Same goes for Ramadan, Eid or whatever. there’s no way our government would attempt to ‘ban’ those celebrations here, so why ban christmas?

OK – I’m going to play devils advocate here – maybe I don’t hold this as my own opinion, but if we have an open mind perhaps we should consider the following:

We live in a democracy whereby we elect our leaders. They are meant to act in our best interest. Perhaps, just maybe, they have a higher purpose and insight than the rest of us. To give an example:

Douglas Bader – the great war hero pilot had a dog called "N1gger". Nobody back in the forties would have thought this was in any way offensive. With the passage of time and changes in our culture I think everyone agrees now that this was an offensive name to call a pet.

Likewise, a few years ago we thought it was daft that they were banning "Golliwogs" on Robertsons Jam. Today many still hold the view that it was crazy – but equally some now think it was correct to ban the name "Golliwog" and to even have a doll of this type.

Maybe I think the Scottish Parliament are crazy to ban Smoking. But In a few years time my perception may change and I may finally realise that the people that made these choices to ban smoking had more insight than I do.

Let’s keep an open mind – maybe, just maybe, Christmas should be banned. Perhaps we should learn to trust the judgement of our leaders a bit more.

I’m not saying this is my view – just playing devils advocate and trying to keep an open mind.

Perhaps our politicians really are better informed and have a "higher purpose" than the rest of us. Why else would such a motion as banning Christmas be put forward for debate 😮

So national flags banned mmm great, can you imagine for 1 moment telling a american he was banned from flying the stars and stripes from his property or the union flag on his car lol there would be a civil war lol, But i walked down a street in middlesbrough the other day and there was a house converted into a mosqe with a 20/30ft vivid purple Dome thing on the roof in a row of terrace houses!! how the hell did planning permission for that get passed and YES The sight of that DOES OFFEND ME, sorry but it does mainly as a total eyesore not the fact it is a mosque.
On the subject of us voting in our goverment, yes we do but thats the only say we get, we decide what party gets in but thats as far as we get to deciding what happens as in we have a big fat ZERO say in what goes on Locally or nationally, country is going down the pan. (:)

its not illegal to fly any flag,
only if you read the sun

Douglas Bader – the great war hero pilot had a dog called “N1gger”.

    Point of order Mr. Phill.

It was Guy Gibson who had the dog. It’s name was transmitted as the code word to signify the successful breach of the Mohne dam.

Must go now. Got to clean my anorak. 🙁

Bader cant always be believed, he was a bit like uksb members, sometimes legless 😀

there was a programme recently that rather than barder being in colision with another plane as bader said > It was suggested that he told a "porky" to save face …from the fact that he was shot down by a lower ranking german piolet

Peter, how could you?! To make fun of the ambulatory challenged!

As you know, I have a full complement of limbs.
However, on behalf of the dragonfly in my kitchen (whose leg I pulled off earlier today) I am truly offended. How will he ever make his way in this world when people like you are there to ridicule him/her?

the flying jacket I am wearing is sheepskin and Kid and or pigskin the ww2 pilots didnt have the same pleasure, most of the uk jackets were made out of cardboard and cotton

The americans had heated planes, so could use lighter clothes

Actually Peter I read (possibly in the sun 😀 ) it is illegal to fly the Union Jack unless from a proper flagpole ie not out of the bedroom window or on a bit of plastic attached to a car window.

the issue with flying it from a car was a legal question of insecure load as a lot of them ended up on the side of a motorway, or hitting a motorcyclist. and or littering, different than flying a flag ilegally.

just sight a case of prosecution for flying a union jack, then I will believe it

last i heard you have to have council planning permission to fly the union jack but must be from a proper flag pole, which you also need planning permission for as well.

i once had a spotty sudent type have a go at me for having a small ‘general lee’ flag on the back of one of my cars, he went on to tell me what it stood for, i simply said "i know exactly what it stands for" to which he called me racist 😮 i may stay well away from the bleeding heart lefties, but i don’t wear a hood and burn hurches, and i’ve never abused a non white in any way, well… other than an indian guy that recently reversed into my fishing gear in a car park, breaking a rod and near running me down, then expecting me to pay to repair the scratch on his overloaded car, the air was decidedly blue then,(hot) (hot) (:) (:) i did enjoy the fact that a spectator called the law, who subsequently fined him for having 8 passengers in a 7 seater and no tax disc 😀

    flying the flag?

    urban myth

    prove me wrong,
£100 to anyone that can document a prosecution for flying a st george cross or any of the union flags, but it must be specific to flying the flag, not on any safety issues etc, within the UK

    Peter

PS £100 to winners nominated charity, not to winner

That was an easy shot Phill, mainly because cr@p like that comes out of government, Scottish and English, national and local, all the time so no-one would suspect that you were kidding. It was too easy to believe.

In fact, give it a year or two and your prediction may well come to pass, and you will be seen as a visionary and a prophet.
