Just had somebody walk in and guess what he uses for a corporate font?

Yup – Algerian, and all caps.

As a socially responsible signmaker I considered it my duty to at least try to protect the public from this abomination so, after a bit of work, I think I’ve talked him into changing it.

    I’ll know for sure tomorrow.

    😀

I’m steering him in the direction of Praxis, but I’ll be on the lookout for surprises.

    Thanks for the warning Jill.

funny enough andrew is printing digital prints for a van coming in tommorrow. some of the vans look pretty tidy, but like your customer, algerian is the print style for his company name. ill try and remember to take a picture tommorrow and post here. you can then just sit back and admire it 😳 :lol1:

Well done Phill. I bet you feel much better having got that off your chest. 😀

The trouble is, if my guy insists on Algerian I’m going to have to do it.

He’ll be up later today, so fingers crossed. xxx

I did a monster of a job yesterday, the customer was so chuffed he insisted I put my sticker on it, but I really didn’t want to 😳 But hey, the customer is always right-isn’t he?

I have one of those at the moment, telling me how he wants what he does and the contact info more prominent than his Co name, nothing wrong with that.
Then he starts to give me all this stuff he wants putting on, it’s going to look like a Christmas tree and it’s all on a Mondeo.

Phill, that looks to me like one of those cases where the first few letters of the font matches the first few letters of the company name, so it just looks "right" to the customer.
That’s probably what ya did there buddy.
How can something so right turn out so wrong? 😉 :lol1:
    Just pulling yer chain.
Hey my font problem even extends to Letterhead Fonts….I have seen Esoteric so many times I just can’t stand it!
And back when I first got a machine, BS was my only script besides Kestrel.
You bet your sweet bippy I used the hell out of it.
I did a bid the other day for a lawyer, his "letterhead" (ahem) was in Comic Sans.
    He opted for Esoteric. 😀
    love….jill
PS I also loathe Mistral and Ancient Script. Node hell.

    hello all,

maybe the name makes people think of brighter and warmer places, if you are really worried about the look, you can always go for the suttle look, white letting on a white background,
joking aside, this type of font works well as a headline font, if you cover the job with it you loose its impact,

I think it looks ok as a font, its a soab to weed though, but can be used to good effect#

I’ve always thought your van was very striking and eyecatching John 😀

Does anyone ever use olde English (I once had a customer that used it)? Now that is a font I do dislike – unless it’s used in an appropriate setting such as an old 19th century bookshop.

I’ve always thought Algerian had a sort of Masonic look to it so it should appeal to judges, policemen and postmen 😉

Who’s this "Rooney" character anyway 🙄

And what’s this about Michael Owen having a foot injury?

All we need now is for Beckham to have a reccuring foot injury to get a hat trick 😀

Talking about "Football" I think, have you heard of it North of the Border Phill? 😀

Sorry to re-surrect this thread but I’ve just had a customer today ask for his van to be lettered using Algerian for everything – business name, tel. no. the lot.

What do I do – give him what he’s asking for or spend my time (and try my patience) trying to persuade him otherwise 😕

Hi Phil, try & persuade him that it would look good as his business name but would spoil the look if it was used throughout.

Phill tell him your computor won’t accept it it makes it crash 😛 😛 😛 or as John suggest name only that should be big enough to weed without probs tell him to trust you you are a sign maker 🙂 and Algerian all over would spoil the effect

    Phill,

If you can’t convince him in thirty seconds don’t waste any more of your valuable time.

Give him what he wants and take his money.

Or if he insists, tell him you’ll do the name in Algerian, but the rest in Algerian basic-at least there will be less little bits to weed (and lose!)
