Neil,
Just one more question, the Cataphos is available as a Chlorinated Rubber or Water Based solution, which one did you opt for and why?Cheers

Kevin & Neil,
Apologies for the belated thanks, I have been incommunicado for the past few days.
My customer has specified the thicker brush or roller application method, so it looks like Neil might have the solution (forgive the pun) by suggesting Cataphos.
Thanks again, your suggestions are are much appreciated.Cheers

Contacted APA who were very helpful and I am now going through their product information and swatch pack, Thanks Martin for the introduction.
Thanks for the suggestion Milton, I telephoned MDP, but they only supply the bubble free in Etch.
I believe I have found my supplier.
Thanks all.

Hi Matt,
No preference in the material, I had been using a Hexis product (HX5000) which was a 65 micron polymetric Calendered PVC and the HX10000 which was a 50 micron cast PVC. Both served their purpose well but Hexis discontinued the 5000 and no longer supplies the 10000 at 610 in short runs.
Any help would be appreciated.Cheers
Jeremy -
Thanks for the reply Peter,
I should have added, a supplier of part rolls, say 10m +, if anyone has discovered a supplier willing to supply short lengths then I would be glad to hear from them.

Yes, I leave both the 5050 and 7000 turned on all the time, I was told by Ricoh that the automatic head clean only happens every few weeks and not every day, in fact, you’re using more ink head cleaning if you turn it on each day.cheers

MemberJuly 27, 2010 at 1:04 pm in reply to: why is my plotter cutting same line twice in Illustrator? As Tony explained, this is a glitch within Illustrator which normally effects the ‘Eye’ or ‘Counter’ of a letter.
My method… after merging, select all of the particular text then go to Pathfinder and select ‘Outline’ – reinstate the stroke weight and colour.I hope this helps

Hello Ray,
It was caught from a lake in Stow Bedon, I’m lucky enough to be one of a few that fishes the 3.5 acres of water, and have enjoyed the last year cutting down trees and clearing scrub that surrounded it to let in some light and encourage a wider range of wildlife. I also have four years worth of fuel for my wood burner.Jeremy

Hi Matt,
I have never caught a Catfish, but heard they can put up a good fight.
This is the only one caught yesterday as there is a lot of spawning activity, probably about a 3-4 pounder and a good looking fish.I was hoping that Hugh Potter might chip in as I know he’s a keen Angler.

MemberMay 27, 2010 at 8:00 am in reply to: can anyone tell me why has my magnetics stuck to van?Good morning Alan,
They must have taken the layers of paint into consideration, or any guarantees would only be subject to magnetic direct to metal… I tried it with a 50 micron cast and all seems ok.
I can’t understand why the manufacturers haven’t addressed this problem, surely it would be a good selling point.Cheers

I’ll be using the DK8 heat press for this and probably press in two hits….Poli-Flex is ok for Polyester, just wondering if the Polyurethane coating would cause adhesion problems.Cheers

Thanks for the replies Chris and Neil,
Unfortunately there is no access zip, but having positioned the jacket over the press table it doesn’t seem to bad to press, the only film I have in stock is Poli-Flex supplied by Hexis, will the polyurethane coating cause a problem? Thanks again

Thanks for your input Graeme,
I have been experiencing a lot of shifting when cutting longer lengths on the 12" shears, which apparently is due to the curved blade pulling the media across while cutting. I have since spoken to Jim at Alphaprint who has the larger 25" version of the Model 45 and he gave me the thumbs up with regard to its straight cutting accuracy.
Thanks again

You’ve hit the nail on the head Shane, I would suggest that most of the ‘Graphic Designers’ mentioned in this thread are most probably ‘Web Designers’ with a destinct lack of necessary design disciplines, a few evening classes and millionaires by 40.

You’re absolutely right John, most business driven design houses are the curse of fabricators, work out, money in and job done, however, I did get the impression that the rant was for designers in general and felt that a redress was important.
If designing was so easy and profitable, what are we all doing making signs?
Cheers
Jeremy -
Instead of the rant, wouldn’t it be a better idea to get to know your local designers? I can’t help thinking that you’re missing opportunities to win a valuable ally and possible customer…why not invite them to your studio and demonstrate the sign making process, I’m sure they would be very interested to learn the correct proceedure.
Just a thought

Hello Stuart,
First of all I would like to say well done for laying your cards on the table and being open to suggestions, and it was refreshing to notice that you have not been flustered by some remarks which will hold you in good stead for the future.
If you have a strong design foundation then it will certainly be possible to diversify your business to provide signage, stationery, exhibition and promotional items etc, although not a manufacturer, you could employ trade suppliers/installers and oversee the work as a project manager, but you must be very confident with any third parties credentials and abilities.
Good luck with any decisions you make.

You’re absolutely right John, I doubt that Sawgrass actually owns a Paper Mill, I should have written ‘manufactured for’ and not ‘manufactured by’… my mistake.
I know that there are many Dye Sub papers available and I’m sure that most are happy with their particular brand, just that I was on the phone to Sawgrass tech dept today and they reiterated that the Sawgrass/TruePix paper is specified for their ink.
Cheers
Jeremy -
Hi John,
TruPix paper is manufactured by Sawgrass, the same people that make SubliJet R ink for the Ricoh.
If you would like to try some I would be willing to send you a few sheets.Jeremy
-
Hi John,
Dye Sub papers have taken years to evolve to what we use now, the main characteristics being that the ink should dry upon the paper coating and not become absorbed into the paper itself, should have excellent release and anti cockling properties, can be used on a range of substrates and be ink compatible.I wouldn’t use anything but TruPix which has been developed and recommended by Sawgrass. I once ordered TruPix from a UK supplier and was sent an unbranded box of paper, when I phoned and asked them if it was TruPix they said ‘it was a Chinese equivalent’ so not only were they prepared to fob me off with an inferior paper but were willing to charge me TruPix prices.
Hope this helps
Jeremy -
Hi John, Absolutely!…To see the choice of paper sizes that you are adding to, got to…
Printers and Faxes (changes cannot be made from an application)
Left click on GX5050
Printer Preferences
Page Settings
Click on paper size in selection box and scroll down, this is where your custom size will be included. To create a custom paper size, go to…
Printer Preferences
Printer Configuration
Select .. Custom paper sizes..
Type in the dimensions, give it a name and select place as portrait
OK
APPLY
OK
Go back to Page settings to check that your paper size is among those listed.I hope this helps.
Jeremy
-
Hi John,
Once you have created your custom paper size in the Printer Preferences, you can push the paper tray sliders together to the appropriate shorter width. As you are using a 5050 with ICC profile and not the Driver, you will not be able to print from Illustrator, how this works in Corel, I am not to sure.
For the GX7000, users will have to download the latest Driver v2.9.2 from Sawgrasseurope.com which now includes a custom paper size option.
If you need info on creating custom paper sizes for the 5050, I would be happy to help.
Cheers

Hi Phill,

Jeremy

JeremyPS, Which guillotine do you have?
-
Hi John,
Please don’t take offense, but it seems to me that you’re printing to suit your paper size and not to what is actually needed, the pre cut method would conserve ink when those one off mug prints arise, maybe I’ve become too ‘careful’, but due to ink costs, I wouldn’t want to print something that wasn’t needed on the day.
The trial runs on my 5050 have worked perfectly, when you think about it, it’s just slightly smaller than an envelope.
Jeremy
-
Hello John and John,
I wouldn’t buy from Conde because they do not supply TruPix paper which is recommended by Sawgrass to use with their inks, but have packs of 100 guillotined to size by a friendly Print Co near to me.
The method, is to create custom paper sizes for your printer to suit the type of mug printing required ie , 230 x 90 for a wrap with borders top, bottom and sides, larger sizes for wrap with bleed etc, Then in Illustrator, which is my preferred software, create an art board in document setup which is 5mm smaller on each side than the paper size, now you have a setup that will automatically crop imported artwork, pics etc as anything overlapping the art board will not print.
The advantages I can see would be:
Easier artwork setup.
Smaller file sizes.
No more after print trimming.
Less paper and ink wastage with misprints.
Quicker assembly.Cheers
Jeremy
