    Hello,
I am about to replace my 12" shears (mega uk #DM9001) for their 18" version (Model 45) and would like some advice, does anybody know if…

The Model 45 cuts accurately and straight over 18"?
There are any problems with these shears that I should be aware of ?

In the main, this would be used to cut 0.5mm Aluminium and any input would be much appreciated.

    Cheers
    Jeremy

    Hi Rob,
I’ve only ever cut 0.5 mm Aluminium.

    Cheers

From the pic the blade and blade holder look pretty sturdy, and with the addition of a pre-cut clamp I cant see why you wouldn’t get a straight cut. I paid £120 for a 3′ cast iron guillotine and have to hold metal by hand while cutting. Again the blade carrier is solid and cuts very straight.

The spec for the one your looking at is up to 2mm aluminium, so 0.5mm should be like cutting soft butter. :lol1:

    Thanks for your input Graeme,

I have been experiencing a lot of shifting when cutting longer lengths on the 12" shears, which apparently is due to the curved blade pulling the media across while cutting. I have since spoken to Jim at Alphaprint who has the larger 25" version of the Model 45 and he gave me the thumbs up with regard to its straight cutting accuracy.

    Thanks again

we started out with a 4ft manual/foot operated guillotine, paid around £400 for it… always very handy but restricted due to size/width and thickness we could cut. we later bought a second user 3 metre wide electronic foot operated guillotine. only paid about £2000 at auction… and have never looked back. it is an old model/style machine but is extremely easy to use, speeds up production no end and has only needed one service in about 6 years. a real work horse and probably (for a busy sign maker) has to be one of the best investments we have ever made.

under "UK resources" then "Rollers, benders, guillotines"on the UKSB TOOLBAR you will find a couple of companies offering these and smaller similar type machinery.

    Thanks Rob,
Not quite at the stage where I’m needing anything of that size.
I’ve just placed an order for the Model 45 and will post my findings when I’ve had a play.

    Many thanks
    Jeremy
