the cat was caught on some old chicken, just cast out and left for a few hours until i got the strike. heck of a fight to get it in…thought it was twice the size the way it was fighting!! lol -

Hi Matt,
I have never caught a Catfish, but heard they can put up a good fight.
This is the only one caught yesterday as there is a lot of spawning activity, probably about a 3-4 pounder and a good looking fish.I was hoping that Hugh Potter might chip in as I know he’s a keen Angler.
Cheers

nice catch!!! catfish are great for a fight. you think you have jaws on the end of the line most of the time and you end up with something like nemo(the little cartoon fish!)
where were at we have a huge man made lake that does the water for alot of the big towns so it really is a big, big lake. we have fish here called crappies…..you ever heard of them? they taste great and are plenty!!!!! was hoping to go bass fishing at a new place this weekend, but the weather here is 45 degree at the mo so its really hot to sit out on the banks for several hours!!! -
Hi Jeremy’
Nice Mirror, did you catch that locally? I live in the same area as you and used to be a keen carp angler. -

Hello Ray,
It was caught from a lake in Stow Bedon, I’m lucky enough to be one of a few that fishes the 3.5 acres of water, and have enjoyed the last year cutting down trees and clearing scrub that surrounded it to let in some light and encourage a wider range of wildlife. I also have four years worth of fuel for my wood burner.Jeremy

Had many more up to 40lbs but caused many more problems in doors as I spent far too long on the bank!

quote Nigel Hindley:do none of you guys fly fish? that’s real sport!
yup 🙂
do a bit now and then, mostly saltwater for bass but, not usually in a position to take pics! we do a bit at the local lakes when not much is happening down the beach, nice and light gear as opposed to the usually heavy beach gear!

I have done very little myself it is a real skill! (apart from darrows for mackerel, which is massacre) but need to get back into it particularly as I have a holiday home on the banks of what is apparently the best trout loch in Scotland!

quote Richard Urquhart:Here are a few from last weekend, biggest that day 19.5 lbs good weekend and my son who is 12 did just as well Rich
Nice fish Rich. 40lb is a hell of a size, I once saw a 33lb caught but that was a long while back and I though that was huge. Biggest I have had is 18lb but that was caught on the pole which was great sport.
I used to fish at least once a week but due to work and having a young family it has gone on the back burner for now and am lucky to get out 3 or 4 times a year.
That said seeing these pictures is making me want to get out right now and get on the bank 😎 🙂
Cheers

get out there!
i love catching mackeral on a fly rod, lb for lb they have to be one of the hardest fighting fish out there! much more fun than launching out a string of 6 feathers!
re Carp, i’ve never bought into it all i’m afraid, though i did spend £8 on a day ticket a couple of years back and took just a fly rod, landing net and a few bits of tackle, had to use my coat as an unhooking mat (was informed by a fellow (disapproving angler that i had to have one) and caught about 20 carp to around 8lb, all on a 9ft 5# fly rod and small gold head nymph, I was asked to leave after a few hours because "i was disturbing the peaceful nature of the fishery and putting the fish off feeding with my casting", I questioned how this was so when i was happily catching fish and asked if it was jealousy, the replies began to get a little heavy so i left.
i phoned up and asked why i could be allowed to be treated this way having paid a ticket and was told that fly fishing as not permitted, i pointed out that it wasn’t mentioned in the rules and was told to lump it. i’ve always wanted to go back with a group of mates and take some marinade and a bbq, not eating your catch isn’t in the rule book either! 😉
i have fished a few carpy places but it just doesn’t do it for me as much as it does for my mates who keep trying to ‘convert me to the dark side", I do enjoy catching anything but, I like the unknown factor about fishing and prefer to catch "whats naturally there" rather than "what’s been put there". 99% of my fishing is done on natural river coarses and the sea, which have no affiliation to any club and aren’t stocked. think it’s more fun when ya don’t know if your next fish could be supper or the nasty one which could put you in hopsital!

RichJealous as hell mate. I started late for a family and paying a price for it now. Used to have at least one weeks trip to Ireland each year. As I said I miss it like mad and will hopefully get back on the bank soon.
Cheers

I, like Hugh, really enjoy fishing for Carp with my fly rod, I like to target surface feeders with bread or floating pellets … great sport.

Nice Thread,
I’m like Gary, I used to love fishing but haven’t been for years. My wife was saying just the other day to take my 13 year old son.
We are surrounded by some lovely lakes aswell so no excuses really.
I used to love lake fishing on a long summers evening, water completely still when your float starts to wobble..then goes straight under.
In the mid seventies I used to work on Saturdays in a tackle shop. First job in the morning was to go to the old fridge and sort the maggots out.
The upstairs store room was haunted, and occasionally would have to do a stock take on my own, the room was always cold, couldn’t wait to get out.I did build up a fantastic collection of floats which I still have to this day, and also still have my ‘Mitchell Match’ reel..that was the one to have back then.
Anyway I’ll stop rambling…some great pics here.
Good taste in music BTW Jeremy 😀

Mitchell match, still got mine too, a blue one with one touch bail arm release and a couple of older black ones, lovely reels! They’ve outlasted all my late 80’s and early 90’s graphite daiwa autocast reels!
