Ive not done any pinstriping yet, but i would imagine that it would be best to use veticle joins, allowing rainwater to run off.

If your using pinstripes of say 5mm there is not a lot of adhesive to hold the vinyl in place, if you use horizontal joins make sure that you overlap from top to bottom.

Must get my eyes seen to.

Well, although i normally like script fonts i dont think it fits in well with the rest of the design. I think there is far too much contrast within the 2 separate elements of the logo

I would prefer to see the script in a staight forward block type font with a similar photoshop effect but still using a diff coloured background.

I think the colours you have used work well together.

This is of course just my opinion but i’m sure others will add theirs.
    Thanks for sharing

This has turned into an interesting read. Thanks for all the replies.

I guess £15 for a trade price is very good, i’m glad i found this guy local to me. I can assure everyone here that the end user will be paying quite a bit more for it. I am not interested in doing cheapo jobs, i would rather spend my quiet times learning new techniques and researching new products.

    Looks good.

Just as an aside, how do you transport your graphics? This week i transported a window graphic about 800 metres and ended up with a crease in it.

Have you got some sort of way of keeping them flat and in one place?

Just had a thought on these things…..

What would be nice is a “childs thermometer” sort of thing. The ones you stick on kids foreheads when they are ill. If they manufacture them up to 100deg C then you could stick them on the vinyl in the area you are heating up and you would get instant readout whilst keeping both hands free.

    Any thoughts?

Not sure if this is true, but I was informed that there are only about 3 manufacturers of vinyl "face film" worldwide.

    Different types of vinyl i.e.
    Oracal
    Mactac
    Hexis
    Ritrama
    etc
use these films and use their own glue and backing to "make" their vinyl.

The names used here are for illustrative purposes only and bear no resemblance to persons fictional or fact if you know what I mean.

Maybe someone can throw some light on this for me

if i am applying wet i just use water with a few drops of baby shampoo in it. I figure if baby shampoo is mild enough for babies then it aint gonna do any harm to vinyl.

For cleaning i use a solution that my mate gets from his work, (an industrial printers ). Its clear and smells like meths. i then add a bout 10% of normal pink meths just to add a bit of colour so i know what it is.

As yet i havn’t had to strip any vinyl, but when i do i guess i’ll be using the Tar & Glue remover that has been mentioned before.

Ive thought about the size issue but that is what the customer wants.

Ive just done a lightbox for the customer, it was his own design, black, yellow and lime green. he now wants this 3 sides sign just above the lightbox and no doubt it will be blue, purple and orange…

I’ve just been out to the garage and flooded some glass with etch about 2ft square. 1 dry,1 wet.

The wet one was a lot easier and the tape came off straight away, no bubbles or marks

Couple of marks in the dry one

    Rod,

my router is connected to my modem and my main pc is hard connected to the router.Internet and e-mail are fine….

The other two are already connected (via wireless) and internet and e-mail are fine….

This leads me to believe that the connections are fine…

I am trying to share files between the computers and this is where i am having problems…..i have tried to run the network wizards but this is where it is falling down..

I’m not very technically minded as far as comps are concerned but would try to sort it before having to call someone in

Looks like Paul might be right.

The description of the router thingy is:

    802.11g/802.11b Wireless access point
    Broadband Internet Access
    4-port Switching hub

I take it from this that i dont have the correct piece of kit.
I am running xp pro on the main comp and xp home on the others
I did try the file sharing option but that didnt resolve anything.

Because i work from home i tend to do a lot of the designing inside and only go into the workshop to do the cutting and manufacture of the signs. What i am trying to do is to be able to send completed designs etc to the comp in the workshop. i have been using floppy discs etc but it makes things a bit complicated when designs get altered.

    Any advise?

After studying the link that Peter posted, i think it will be wiser, and probably cheaper to study some of the other links and “Buy” a few decent scripty things.

BTW i thing that the American style of signage is really cool. I wish i could push that style in Britain. It would certainly brighten up some of the journey round town

God LJ, that turned into a right night mare. I was doing it for a printer who was supplying menus etc to a take away. Anyway he supplied the acrylic cut to size 2.5mt x 800mm (x2). i floodcoated in green transluscent with logo and words stamped out. Job looked loverly in the w/shop.

So they asked me to fit it, and i declined, saying that i hadnt measured it and didn’t want to look a berk if it didnt fit.

Needless to say it didnt fit, it was 200mm too deep so i had to cut it and reflood. This time i did help to fit it and it was 100 mm too short

Anyway job is sorted now and looks good

I must have got the printer out of the mucky stuff coz hes give me 2 or 3 jobs since

    Iain

PS. That reads like a novel

No its bot Brushscript. Its Forte.

I seem to be getting quite a few of these chalkboard/showboard type thing at the moment.

A guy used to do them with chalkpens but has now retired to the coast. He had a real free flowing style to them and customers still want this although it is no longer available. Trying to get a casual apperance with comp cuy vinyl is proving difficult

If i get anymore to do i think i’ll have to BUY some decent scripty type fonts

Looking at the picture of the small board it looks like there is a gazzillion bubbles in it, but that is the surface of the board honest.

Ive attatched another pic from another pub i did

My only concern would be if Joe Public saw the final results…We would all know that the prices would be a guideline but old JP would see it as a definate.

Good Idea tho’ and well worth investigating

I/m not worried by this £40 geezer but it does give potential customers another bullet to fire in my direction. Good job that being married for nearly 22 years has thickened my skin a bit……..but thats a different story

Cut the acrylic a treat. Used Blg G’s tip for the lubrication

I did it with and without washing up liquid to see what the difference was and was amazed at how the acrylic fuses together without

I think the correct collective noun for a collection should be an “M-25”

I too thought that the RSPCA covered the whole of the British Isles

    New scheme looks good
