  • Ideas on pricing my work for trade?

Posted by Iain Gordon on August 3, 2005 at 9:55 am

    Hi Gang,

I have been asked to supply lettering for 15 boards 750x500mm. It will be 2 colours mainly 15 mm text ( wheres that sheeter/weeder?).

I will register the 2 layers together and apply Tape

    Vinyl is to be 751c.

The client will be applyinf the graphic to his own boards

What sort of price should i be asking?

This is first time offering to trade so i am a bit stuck

    Cheers
    Iain

Just work it on time and materials.
You’ve still got to make a living so need paying for your labour, be realistic with your labour charge, and by that I don’t mean make it cheap.

    Hi Iain

I’d use the same pricing rules for customers to get my price then I’d give a % discount for trade. It takes the same amount of time etc to make for trade as it does for retail.

Sorry if it sounds a bit obvious.

    Regards
    Lee

    Cheers guys,

I was thinking about the 250 mark….would that seem reasonable?

15 m text is smallish, are you talking full coverage 2 colour? or just parts?

    Peter,

the whole board has to be covered, with most of the text at 15mm!!!

to be honest, if you are quoting for the job, you wont be able to compete with print, on something like this. And if its for trade I am sure the customer will be getting other quotes. Sorry to sound negative, by all means quote £250, I would say that reasonable, but dont expect to get it. Any less for cut vinyl will be hard work with small letters. You cant win them all.
