    hello all

as far as i know, mutoh don’t make a value jet that size, but they do make a machine called the draft station, so i think you will find it is one of them with heaters and solvent resistant pump, manifolds and capping station

    hello all
i think you will find they are all using Epsom print heads and the jv33 must be like the mutoh value jet which uses one print head,
from my customers and from my own use i have only had 3 value jets need heads and the oldest one i have sold has to be getting over 2 years old doing a lot of work and still on the same print head, so all ican say is keep your media nice and flat dont have any media crashes and happy printing,
and one other thing, being a sign maker as well, make the most of things as they are it a buyers market out there right now, so make the most if it,
    happy 2009,

    hello all,
in the old days when i used to just work with a brush, when i was sign writing perspex i would always run a leather over the panel, never had any problems then,
if i did not do it you could see the paint tracking off,
this was mainly when doing truck headboards so may prove harder on larger panels,

as for the sea air, we have sold a value jet in Hastings which is about 18 months old one the original head and the sea front is the other side of the road, so that’s just a load of rubbish,
sorry i would put a bit more info in but i have a broken arm at the moment so typing seems to take for ever, not that i type that quick with 2 arms,

    hello all,
karl be very carefull what you do, it is not just fitting the the head and lining it up, you have to set the head voltage, which should be on the side of the new head, also when working on the machine have you removed the power lead and powered up, to discharge any voltage in the machine, as you can blow the fuse on the main board or even blow the board itself, hope this has been of help,

    HELLO ALL

LUKE SORRY TO HEAR YOUR PROBLEM, AS JASON HAS SAID YOU CANT BE EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE, WELL PUT JASON MAY I ADD,
I STARTED TO GET BIG MANY YEARS AGO, MAY I ADD NOT IN HEIGHT, AND FOUND MY TURNOVER WENT RIGHT UP AND MY PROFIT WENT THE OVER WAY,
WE DO SIGNS AND SELL KIT, BUT OUR SIGN CUSTOMERS HAVE BEEN WITH US YEARS AND WE ARE NOT REALLY LOOKING TO ADD TO THEM, WHILE WE CAN KEEP THE ONES WE HAVE ALREADY GOT, WHICH ALSO SAVES ON ADVERTISING.
OUR MACHINE SALES WE AGAIN HAVE A LOT OF CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE USED US FOR YEARS AND WE RUN SMALL ADDS AND A ADD FEW MORE HERE AND THERE, BUT WE CAN ALSO TELL PEOPLE WHAT A MACHINE IS REALLY LIKE WITHOUT THE NEED TO HAVE TO MAKE A SALE, SOMETIMES ITS BETTER NOT TO MAKE A SALE THAN SELL SOMEONE THE WRONG MACHINE,
SO I THINK YOU CAN OPERATE IN BOTH MARKETS AS LONG AS YOU ARE FAIR AND LOOK AFTER YOUR CUSTOMERS IN BOTH AND KNOW WHEN NOT TO CROSS THE LINE

August 19, 2008 at 8:43 pm in reply to: REFELECTIVE VINYL DELAMINATING, ANYONE ELSE GOT THIS PROB?

    hello all

chris it was not avery, however i did change to using there reflective and all was ok, until they sent me some with a yellow backing with the wording reflective film on the back, it looked a nice material and fitted really well, however this has failed but in a different way, it looks like the colour is printed on and the colour is flaking of, on a transit connect van we chevroned in red half the back door is know white,
as soon as i got a problem i stopped using it.
dave as for new paint most of the vehicles we do are new and the slide beds are not painted, nearly all the vehicles are done with the kwiwi light, but as i said before my supplier said it was kwiwi light but the backing is white, when we used to have it supplied before we had any problems, which goes back a very long time to be fair, it had a yellow backing with the manufacturer name on the back,
my problem is we have a lot of vehicles to sort out and our supplier only seem concerned in chasing money, which to be fair you could say we owe, however by the number of vehicles we are going to need repairing it is going to cost me a small fortune without adding my time and losing face with my customers, who i have told i will replace as required, FOC

Cannot mention the supplier in case things go legal, but the reflective is meant to be Kiwilite 5 year but as the backing paper is plain, I cannot be absolutley sure. Funny thing is, I have been using this product for the last 15 years and have never had this happen before.

    hello all

sorry to hear they still have not come up with the right solution, just goes to prove there is still room in the market for smaller dealers like us, and at 5ft 5 they don’t come a lot smaller,
some time when you deal with a bigger company what you have to remember is to a lot of there staff its just a job,
but as Sean has said and we have loads of happy users, maybe you have got a Friday afternoon machine
and spandex if you read these boards it may pay you to cut back a bit on your advertising budget and show a bit of good will and just replace the machine

    hello all
Chris this is what i was trying to say, they should sell the inks with the labels or chip depending on machine and if they are in it for the long term offer a profiling service,
or at least put the customer in contact with some one who can offer these service and let them have a costing of what this bundle is going to cost, they can look at the bigger picture and way up if its with all the aggro

    hello all
why don’t you just stick to mutoh inks, they might cost a little more but,

1 you don’t have all this aggro.
2 all your profile will be out
3 you don’t know how light fast these third party inks are
4 are they going to stink your place out, the mutoh inks have hardly any smell
5 if they are like a lot of the other inks out there any money you will save on ink, you will lose on have to replace, heads capping stations and dampers,
6 add up all your time sorting the above and you will properly find its cost you more over all

this is just from what i have seen, and if anyone says i am saying this to get ink sales, we will only sell ink to people who have purchased machines of us

the problem i find with color scanning is if you zoom in, say you have red green blue, with tiff and jpegs there are usually loads of color if you zoom in, try using your node tool if the logo is not to complex,
or a short term fix is try the web draw uk will vectorize it for you at a good price, if they are still charging what they used to,

scott i think you are correct , i dont think the manufacters use there own ink, just like most of them dont use there own print heads, pumps, capping stations, but they wont go just on price,
third party inks are getting better as are the machines becoming more forgiving,

sorry for the late reply, bill i understand what you are saying and if i was only a sign maker i would name company’s, but being a reseller as well i dont think its fair for me to go putting other suppliers name on the net, however you are welcome to give me a call and i wiil be happy to talk to you, all i was trying to say is for example when we sell 2nd hand machine we allways put a tried and tested ink in it even if it cost us more money, because the last think i want is my customer having problems from the word go, so if we set them off with a machine with ink which we think will not give them problems, then a least they know what the machine is capable of, and if they change inks and it give problems, well we can say it was ok with the inks we supplied if you know have a problem it could be the ink, sorry for the waffle

    hello bill
sorry as a reseller i think it would be unfair of me to name the manufactures, however they are inks which are still sold today and the are light solvent as i call them, not full solvent as some other resellers call them, if you get were i am coming from, as i said before we are only interested in selling ink to people we have sold machines to as part of the service, we dont want to be a big ink reseller, i am just passing on what has happened to me and some of my customer i have sold machines to,
my dad used to say to me you never stop learning and in the printing game it applies far more than the vinyl cutting market, hope this make sense,
in some ways this is a bit like the cheap cutter debate, everyone has a different idea on it,

    hello
as a end user and reseller, we have been there and all i can say is, if you want a easy life stick with what the manufacture supply, then if you have any problems there is no one blaming each other, also from what has happened to us, third party inks fade a lot faster, do you really want to have to do the job twice, and lose your name and any profit,
we only supply ink to our customers so we have nothing to gain by our statements

if the ink supplier does not offer any profile or profiling service, dont go there,
plus from what we have seen over the years, when people try to save pennies on ink, they lose down time on heads clogging, and jobs not coming out the same as older work done with there older inks,

hello jo, this post makes some good reading, everyone is giving you good advice, but one thing i would say is ebay is not total bad for buying or selling, we do some business on it, with good and bad results, its not totally full of scammers,
as for cutters looking the same, we sell machines from £400 up to £9000 and you get what you pay for, everyone when first starting out seem to think roland are the best cutter, so did i when i started many years ago, if i spent as much time researching cutters as i did software i would not have brought a roland camm1, however when i went for my next machine i spent a load of time on it and in the end got a summa t1300, one of the best machines i ever used,
dont just buy of spec sheets have a demo and road test some machine to make sure what you buy is right for you, most proper dealers will offer you this service, good luck

why dont to try speaking to end users already running the value jet and take there advice, ask spandex for reference sites, or you are welcome to talk to some of mine, some of which were running roland machines,
one thing i can say is we have a cadet plus, jv3sp and value jet in our sign business, the the value jet gives the best output and give us far less trouble

    hello

i was wondering when people would pick up how good this machines really is, we are going to run 2 1604 machine in our new unit when i can sell all our old machines and trade ins and get in it,
the problem you might have is getting one, they are selling so well the lead time is getting longer and longer,
if you want to talk to people running one we have sold quit a few and my customers are happy to talk to other sign makers,
as for cutters, so all you drag knife manufacturer but there is not a better machine than a t series, but comes at a price, but they go on for ever, so i would say money well spent,

    hello

the sc650 have 2 types of board, you need to make sure you get the correct one, the older machines have 2 boards, the newer machines one,
we have some we are breaking for parts, which might have the parts you need, but these machines dont go wrong very often, so i would make sure it needs the parts before laying out money you might not need.

the summa dc4sx is well worth a look at, really good for motorbike and car graphics, and the fact you can print white, silver and gold and many other spot colours means there is a lot you can do with this machine you cant do with a ink jet machine, and the dc4sx retails at £7995, a lot of machine for the money

ink, you may save pennies on ink, way it up against the agro factor and time is money,
i have to say it been a while since mutoh really got it right, in fact the sc series cutter is the best machine they have ever made, and ask any user of one, they are great,
i would say this printer is going to be there sc of the printing machines,

if your marks are not pure black the opas does not always work, how you can test that is by cutting some black squares and placing them over your printed ones, then try
what rip are you using ?, as rips like ergo soft add the marks automatic

the value jet is made by motoh and not spandex, we have just come back from sign uk and had a 1.6 running most of the show, printing beeline images, and all i can say is i think this printer will be as good as mutohs sc series cutter, which is one of the best cutters i have sold over the last 14 years,
the motoh weave feature really give all the other machine a run for there money in the way of banding, you wont see any lines in your prints in one of these babys

    Hello all,
The reason no rabbit users have been on is probably because their machine might have gone down with myxomatosis.

Joking aside, you certainly get what you pay for with vinyl cutters.
We sell from cheap to very expensive, and at the end of the day its down to the dealer to advise the end user what sort of machine suits their needs. For example:

Clients who deal mainly with In House signage i would advise a cheap budget machine as they are well worth their money

But someone in Production i.e day to day heavy user machines, i would definitely say it is worth spending the extra money for the difference in build quality, material handling, software compatibility and warranty (i.e 3 year on site which i would say is money well spent)

At the end of the day you pay your money and take your choice.

After sales is something you ought to price into your budget.

    hello all

nice to see trade people thinking longer term,

1 dennis your dealer would not be a roland dealer by any chance, the reason i ask that is roland are the only manufacturer to still make a print and cut machine,

2 there are many down falls with print and cut with one machine, i to many years ago wanted print and cut in one machine, until i got the edges of my prints curling up, could not cut while printing and print while cutting,

3 if you buy a cutter with optical it can work with any printer you buy and also any number of printers, always remember printers have a far shoerts shelf life that printers, and also devalue far quicker, so less resale or trade in value,

4 you are bang on about uv problems, this is from my point of view only thought jobs i have done with many different types of ink, but i find oil based ink far more UV stable than light solvent, i have done jobs with mutoh oil based ink which are still ok after 3 years but jobs i have done with light solvent have droped yellows and reds in 18 mouths,
please not this is from out jobs and our uses read into this what you can,
i am only trying to give advice as inks dont switch my switch if you know what i mean,

5 vinly wont total vanish, but 15 years ago i could make a good living out of driving a brush, not any more, one leason i have had to learn is dont be afraid of change, or you can get left behind,

6 i also could never have earned as much as i have with a bush, as with vinyl over the years i have been able to turn over far more work, and with adding a printer i amsure that will also be the cases, but if you go print and cut, dont be affaid of a printer and a cutter with optical as it could be well worth the leaning curve

hope this has added to the interest

    regards
