  • REFELECTIVE VINYL DELAMINATING, ANYONE ELSE GOT THIS PROB?

Posted by alan flynn on August 18, 2008 at 3:15 pm

I am having problems with reflective vinyl that I have fitted delaminating, in as much as the top glossy film is coming away from the coloured refective underneath in patches leaving areas of matt/gloss/white haze where the two surfaces are delmainating. My supplier informs me I am the only person to be have this problem and is not being overly helpful. I have subsequently discovered another fitter, using reflective from the same supplier and it is happening to him also. Anyone else out there that this is happening to?

Which manufacturer & grade? Which supplier?

Although not having this problem – would be handy to be aware of the issue even if just a slight concern.

Cannot mention the supplier in case things go legal, but the reflective is meant to be Kiwilite 5 year but as the backing paper is plain, I cannot be absolutley sure. Funny thing is, I have been using this product for the last 15 years and have never had this happen before.

I had this problem a short while ago on 2 vehicles out of a fleet of 20 that had been resprayed after body repairs, the reflective vinyl was reacting to the new paint, whilst the rest of the vehicle was fine

    hello all

chris it was not avery, however i did change to using there reflective and all was ok, until they sent me some with a yellow backing with the wording reflective film on the back, it looked a nice material and fitted really well, however this has failed but in a different way, it looks like the colour is printed on and the colour is flaking of, on a transit connect van we chevroned in red half the back door is know white,
as soon as i got a problem i stopped using it.
dave as for new paint most of the vehicles we do are new and the slide beds are not painted, nearly all the vehicles are done with the kwiwi light, but as i said before my supplier said it was kwiwi light but the backing is white, when we used to have it supplied before we had any problems, which goes back a very long time to be fair, it had a yellow backing with the manufacturer name on the back,
my problem is we have a lot of vehicles to sort out and our supplier only seem concerned in chasing money, which to be fair you could say we owe, however by the number of vehicles we are going to need repairing it is going to cost me a small fortune without adding my time and losing face with my customers, who i have told i will replace as required, FOC
    regards

sure you weren’t using nikkalite? that has a yellow backing, i switched to this a couple of years back having used (supposedly) kiwilite previously, which did have a plain white backing. ok, never failed (as far as i know) but not very nice to work with, that said, it did cut well, just too easy to tear / delaminate if you had to lift it during fitting.

actually, now i recall, i was under the impression i had been buying nikkalite, but had in fact been supplied kiwilite as they supplier in question never stocked nikkalite, but didn’t think it worth telling me! had all kinds of probs after i initially switched over to nikkalite as colours would not match, i buy from eurpoint now, never a problem,
