  • Good reflective vinyl now that LG is no longer available?

Posted by Gwaredd Steele on April 30, 2008 at 9:08 am

Hi all. Have been using the LG lite reflective for a while now, but Victory have informed me that it’s no longer produced. I tried some other stuff that they sell, but it’s no where near as good.

    Anyone got any recommendations?

    Cheers,

    Gwaredd.

to my knowledge they still make it. try sign trade supplies in maidstone, kent.

i’d best buy a job lot of one particular colour if they are discontinuing it.

in the main though, i always use nikkalite reflective from europoint.

    cheers.

well that’s just fantastic of LG to drop it like that! i have one product made from black reflective, which i could only get from LG, i have several top companies field testing my products now, not to mention having just spent a load of cash on more printed packaging (hot)

ok, sorry to take this off topic a bit, and hijack the thread…

but who makes a black reflective a a reasonable price?

    ta.

    hugh

ps, not had any major problems with it myself, but i only use the black. the rest is always nikkalite. i only use black as nikka don’t make one.

Don’t know who makes it Hugh, but I’ve got some in stock.

    How much do you need?

your guess is as good as mine mate! it’s an ongoing thing, i cut it, brand it and send it out for various applications. if these two manufacturers decide to use what i’m offering, then it’s prety certain i’ll need a lot, on an ongoing basis!

i’m just going to phone my supplier of it now, and see what they say, it costs me 2/3rds more than what i get nikkalite for from europoint, so i didn’t want to buy too much from the usual supplier, might have too!

how much do you have? is it something you’re not likely to need again? i might well take the lot (assuming it’s not 300m @£15 a mtr!!). pm me if you like.
    regards.

according to my usual suplier for the lg (black), lg have sld out the name to a chinese company, but the quality has gone downhill, they’ve got some of the old stuff left, but only a couple of metres on each of a few cores, short term it’ll do me ok, long term i’m stuffed!

they reckon they’re bringing their own reflective range out, but we’ll have to wait and see if that includes black, and of course, see whether if it’s any good.

why can’t nikalite just make a black, would save me bother!

Without measuring exactly, I’ve got somewhere about 35 to 40 metres at 900mm wide plus almost a full roll at 375mm wide. Both unsprocketed.

We used it for one specific client for about five years, but the contract came to a sudden screeching halt when they went into liquidation so this is what we were left with.

I’m sure we can come to an agreement on price because we’re most unlikely to need black reflective again and it would be nice to turn it back into cash.

    Hugh,
I was just looking in the current Hexis brochure and they show black reflective in 3 qualities. Might be worth a call if only to get samples and prices. 01543 411221.
I also notice that All Print Supplies (01753 696977) carry a material called Flexi-Lite 5R and 3R both of which are available in black reflective

    thanks Steve,

i’ll give em a call for some samples, if i remember correctly though, they won’t give me decent prices as i don’t want a 30day account (i prefer cash accounts), so i get ridiculous prices, sometimes almost double what i can get elsewhere! will ask though!

3M Scotchlite makes a black reflective. It’s lovely to work with (as opposed to Oracal engineer grade)

Vinyl Logistics have a great range of reflective I have used it for a while with no problems, I think its as good as the LG and the price is right, I got a flyer introducing it and they have 10% off for a first order.

i used to use vinyl logistics but the price put me off, also i thought i’d been buying nikkalite, i’d certainly been asking for it. then when i bought nikalite from europoint it was different, and had nikkalite watermarked on the carrier paper 😕 think i was getting kwilite.

i buy a lot of reflective, so unfortunately due to prices and the lack of discounts given, i went elsewhere,

i use reflective for many applications, many of them rather unorthodox, so it’s important to me to have a reflective tat is very versatile..

    cheers.

Dave what do they sell now? in terms of manufacturers branded reflective? what make and what spec?
Any way I see you have only made a couple of posts to date, so it would be nice if you introduced your self, and tell us about your experience with reflective, then we could make an informed decision as to take your advice or not.

Its not a problem if you need to make a decision, I only joined the forum to give good advice and take notes from others, I know that VL have had their problems but I have remained loyal to them as when I needed help when a customer took me for a lot of money they stuck by me, all I can say is that I am happy, and I was only advising of my experiences and just for the record I have been sign making for many years, I originally started with a brush, but, like may others have moved forward with the times, and just to add I also purchased a 2nd user 30" versa cam through them and their digital material is very good too, especially the banner material and banner tape but hey you make your own minds up!

    HI Dave,

ok, scrap everything i’ve said, i stand corrected.. i was talking of vinyil corporation, not vinyl logistics (unless they’re onE in the same!)

    cheers.

thanks all for the replies, and thanks to the original poster, steele signs, who made me aware of my impending disaster and didn’t complain at me hijacking the thread!

as a result i’ve found a far superior product, though not cheap, and have also found a supplier for those rather flambouyant reflective colours i saw at sign uk 07. Thanks Dave too, for asking VL to call me, that jane’s a darling eh!!
