    quote Brian Hays:

You need to use the EPS files they are full size. You can then make your Page large enough for the outline to fit in. Go to layout & Page Setup.

You need to use the correct filter when importing the EPS files into Corel. When you go to File & Import you will see a box marked “files of type” you need to change this to PS, PRN, EPS PostScript Interpreted.

Brian do you know of a tutorial . Either text based or You tube (preferred) .

Yeah I am getting old and no matter what people say you "can" teach an old dog new tricks but it takes so much more time. I also learn better by watching as opposed to reading.

Oh it is them from Birmingham… My only advice would be to stay clear, we purchased one of there heat presses, worst mistake I have ever made. Just before Xmas I was using the heatpress when the wires from the back decided to show bare and touched the metal frame which resulted in me receiving an electric shock.

I have contacted Signzworld, UK Cutter or whatever else they want to call themselves, I have sent them a few emails never had a reply, called them never answered the phone, and even wrote on there forum to warn others but this was never published. the items they sell are not fit for purpose, typical Chinese junk I suppose. Please dont get me wrong there are some great items produced from china, but not from these.

I have tried several times since to make contact I just never get a response.

I used to work with them and one of the reasons I was kicked out (after the business had been built up) was that I challenged a lot of things I saw happening when I covered for a few weeks one of the lads who worked there. (I never saw what was happening for the first 18 moths I did all the support remotely) They made up CE certificates, the heat presses are not fit for purpose and seemed to have got worse as they sold more and needed more quickly.

Those sealers they had six and managed to get ONE working which came back after 3 days.

They have sacked anyone who challenges things based on safety and recently lost their last engineer who knew anything. How they dont get back feedback on ebay I dont know. I know they used to pay people off…sort of bribe to remove feedback etc but ebay dont care about shill bidding so I guess they must be assisting the feedback removal.

Trading standards dont seem to care about what they do and I am still collecting names , dates and times or the problems their customers are getting with a view to getting a higher authority involved.

If any one with safety issues would care to contact me I cant sort your problems direct as they wont even speak to me as they owe me a LOT of money. But I can log it all and perhaps save someones life one day. (If any one will listen)

Judging by your replies I would conclude that you do not know much or anything about screen printing. This is not something you can just buy of fleabay and use without any knowledge of printing. If I am wrong with this assumption please accept my apologies.

Is screen printing used for things other than garments then ??

I ask as I have been asked to locate a good screen printer in the Midlands and its hard to locate through google as many seem to link to pakistan and china etc 😉

How do I locate people on the forum who can do what we might need??

    quote Helen Butcher:

I have a Liyu SC1261 with optical eye and have been using it without problem for months now.

The other day I tried doing some contour cutting and had problems – when trying to set up the offset when I used the PC keyboard to adjust the blade it had no effect. I gave up. Since then I have tried using the cutter for my normal one colour cutting and I cannot get it to work!!

I can set a test cut via the cutter itself and it works fine. I can set up my cutting job and request a test cut and that works fine too. BUT when I send the cut job to be cut I have been getting two scenarios:

    1) There is a long pause then the blade will move to the far left of the cutter – and keep trying to move making an awful juddering sound so I quickly press reset.

    2) More recently when I have tried re-setting the settings there is a long pause then the cutter will forward feed the vinyl and make a strange wiggly curve about 30cm wide then move further to the left and start cutting again – but I don’t know what it’s going to cut as I press reset as my vinyl is only 50cm wide and I have wasted too much already!

I have jobs waiting to be cut and need to get this resolved – does anyone have any ideas?

EDit: Should say I am using Windows Xp to Signcut Pro

Did you ever solve this problem with your cutter.?

Did you ever hear back. It would surprise me if they would let you have the drivers as the starter edition is just that and is sold machine specific.

Speaking to uk cutter ace business park , mackadown lane. (they sell on ebay under the name SIGNZWORD) would be no good either as the last guy who knew anything there resigned last week.

    Open up production manager.

Click on Setup / Add Setup and a dialogue box will appear (see below)

Select the Manufacturer, Graphtec and the Model, CE5000-60

Then it will ask you to select how it is connected. USB normally and that should be it.

    Neil

That only works if the drivers are included. The flexistarter 10 from uk cutter is a chinese knock off. They are machine specific.

I have to agree, stick to your UK supplier and at least if the vinyl fails (& your not to blame) you know you have started with a genuine product. A friend imported some through Alaba Trade and it seemed ok’ish but why take the gamble??

I think the point is being missed . A mate has asked me if I can source a supply of vinyl the same as he has he has been using for over 18 months to good effect. I have purchased a vinyl costing many more time more than he was paying and it does not do what he wants. I realise if he wants to race in F1 he needs an F1 car but if he only wants to get to the shops whats wrong with the mini he has used perfectly well.

He does not intend to wrap Balotelli’s bentley just a few I phone cases and parts for few mates cars.

Thats why I asked if anyone has purchased some of the identical stuff in the UK.

hope you can follow this. Its not about whats the best or even the cheapest its what he knows works. In general I appreciate what people are saying but in this case I know he can pay more and get better vinyl but he wont get any jobs/work as its just not cost effective.

take your pick of brands listed on the UKSB toolbar. theres about 20 brands on there. contact some of the bigger suppliers and ask them what low cost media they offer and get prices and spec. you will be surprised at what you can get and its more or less on your doorstep next morning.

The font is perfect . It loads up fine BUT when I try filling it with colour the ONLY thing that I can get to fill is the shadow. The remaining part stays white. And no matter what I try I can not fill it . Or cut each part separately.

I am sure I could have added a shadow to a standard Bull pen font by now and cut that BUT its now bugging me as it MUST be possible . lol

To produce a contour cut using vinyl master pro, go to contour cut symbol, select, and then you need to select the width of cut, also select if you want to keep the middle of the image, which I would imagine you would do

In order for it to separate colour for cutting it has to be a font, not an image, in VMware pro make a mask of the fonts, convert to curves, make copy, change to black, for shadow, press P to centre image, grab second image and press P to centre and font on top of shadow colour, or post an image and I will see what I can do with it

I am assuming its a font as its installed and just typed in. I am getting there but there are just too many variables for my point and click learning method. lol I am sure its in the manual somewhere and maybe even in the tutorials.

I have found a section on contour as I will need the reg marks anyway. And now mange to get tow colours to cut BUT it seems to be cut lines BOTH on the outside of the complete font. lol

Should be straight forward in Vinyl Master Pro, if the shadow is a different colour from the font, look at the cut options, it should have separated the colours for cutting.
The other way to do this quickly is make a copy, and get rid of the parts you do not wish to cut, one for the font , the other for the shadow, and cut the colours required

Thats what I expected also but it does not separate the cut based on colour. I might have a setting wrong but I usually use signcut but lost my dongle. I am sure VM will do everything but its finding out how to do things quickly as I was stitched up by a cutter seller for around 40 grand and need to pay legal fees as they are refusing to pay my commission. 🙁

Ironically I only need to sort one task and it combines several text challenges and I guess the stress is also getting to me now.

A mate makes backs for Recovery trucks and just wants me to supply him with the RECOVERY graphics. In vertical text, starting at 15cm widening to 28cm with an overall length of 115cm in Bullpen 3D Blue with a silver shadow.

6 months ago I would have done this easy but my memory seems to be failing badly just now.. ;(

Just going through all the tutorials now lol

If you got it from Rhino Tech then they can help you with drivers etc.

It was the first plotter, I purchased, and I did not have too many problems, but can relate to some of your frustrations, due to the type of motor used in the P cut “step motor” opposed to a more expensive cutter” servo” and the latter is more accurate. The problem you seem to be having is the feed, suggest you un-roll the vinyl, so the plotter does not have to work to hard pulling the vinyl into the machine, slow the speed of the machine way down and monitor whats going on. be interested to hear how you get on.

BRAVO GRAHAM!!!!!!! YOUR FANTASTIC!!!!!!! THAT DID THE JOB…..A MILLIONS THANKS TO YOU……I WAS READY TO DUMP IT AND COMPLETELY GIVE UP..BUT NOW I’M EXCITED TO CUT, CUT, CUT. KIND REGARDS FROM SUNNY CALIFORNIA…ROBEN

It is a problem when you buy the cheaper cutters and they dont seem to work perfectly but often is lack of experience as much as anything. Many people seem to think its an option to print money (not saying you do) and they dont realise its cheaper to get started but you cant buy talent and experience.

I dont have experience of the more expensive cutters so I dont know if they pull the vinyl of a roll without problems.

I can speak for Liyu, Creation and they need the vinyl flaked most of the time.

Unfortunately the unit didn’t come with a manual, and the tec support is limited to a forum that get no replays form staff.

I set the at .4mm offset and .5mm over-cut in flexi and that has improved it hugely, and think I will get to 100% with a little tweaking on the offset.

Regards Cutting pressure, using the 15g seems to be doing the job, and 25g scores the wax-backing of the vinyl, so not sure if thats 15-25g over a higher set pressure? (as there is no manual).

Ether way, you have set me on the right path with the off-set and over-cut, and I thank you!

Hi Brook its interesting you say there is no support when I am regularly carrying out remote support as far away as Spain Portugal and many other destinations. I dont think I am allowed to post the support email on here so you will have to take a look on that popular selling place on the internet.

But anyway where did you get the drivers for flexisign as they are only widely available in the flexistarter version and there are some around that have been hacked and can cause major problems.

Despite that if you have your ebay ID we can see exactly when you purchased the cutter and sort it out under the RTB warranty we provide FOC for two years.

BTW the manual is on the driver disc that comes with the cutter although it leaves a lot to be desired we have been in the process of re writing manuals and doing videos .

    Hope this helps.

The chinese plotters aren’t that bad, obviously they aren’t as quick, smooth or quiet as roland/graphtec but for the money they are capable little machines for everyday stuff. The main problem with them is the fact you’ll be on a steep learning curve as the support is next to none. Most have a warranty of 12 months but you usually have to pay for an engineer to diagnose any faults then the seller pays parts and labour.

Interesting reading this . I have deliberately stayed away from posting here (even though I have a paid subscription) I did ask how I stood , but I did not get a reply!.

Never mind the mods will no doubt edit anything I say which is not welcome and I can fully understand why the pro’s would not like cheap chinese machines to become useable.lol

However I will declare a commercial interest in that I provide basic support for Liyu machines amongst other items.

I have noticed that many people think its easy to "do signs" as they call it and generally they fall at the first hurdle (nothing to do with the capability of the cutter)

So whilst I have always thought this forum to be a strange and complex subject (assisting others who may one day become competitors) we are all trying to earn a living the best way we know how.

I will concur with many comments that most Chinese cutters will come without support but some of us are trying to change this and before I say any more I need to find out if my comments are wanted or indeed within the rules. Is that fair enough??

There are other things that could be checked but you have a few things to be going on with.

I have replaced and tried 3 blades and tried a few offsets.

I have checked out the Roland Blades I am using and they are also sold for the GCC range so I have the right blades.

I am supposed to be using 45 degree blades with .25 offset as far as I can make out.

I have discounted sticking blades etc as its consistant.

It looks software related but its corel draw so cant see what is causing it.

Actually, I have got an update on this. Sorry I forgot to post it up.

Turns out there are 2 different types of head and the type I have does not have the pad mentioned in earlier posts.

The problem of the missing first bit of cut is down to the magnets sticking. Its all very clean in there, no grit and now lubricated too with a drop of WD40.

The cheap solution is to put an element into the design to be cut first (a simple box is normally enough) to get the ‘sticking’ cleared before the design is cut.

The not so cheap solution is to buy a new head!

I’ve also bought a new ‘Smart blade’ from Harry at Edward Mathias which helped enormously with accuracy of cut. Harry was a big help in working out what was wrong with the head, definitely the chap to talk to.

I dont think my problem is the same though. Mine is missing the same sections every time.

I will try and photo the parts being missed .

My guess is its offset related as it was cutting with the old blade…….. badly. But not predictably like it is now.

However I am using Roland blades which say they are 45 degree and need a 0.250 offset. The thing is last blade I purchased was for fine work and I am sure I had to alter the offset from the 45 degree blade I had in there.

But yes I guess its now trial and error.

    cheers for reply

That sounds exactly like the issue I have, it makes a big clunk quite often! I imagine I have worn right through mine.

I would be very interested to see a photo and of course where to get hold of replacement pads.

    Thanks.

Was this ever solved?? And was the pic posted anywhere??

Not sure why you would want to buy a larger plotter just now, the machine you have will do just about any of the work you are likely to do at the moment and as you have now sorted out how to work it you would really be best using it and letting it pay for itself before you think about a larger machine.

Two reasons my son thinks this one is a toy and does not bother using it. But goes and buys loads of graphics which I can not keep affording. Its also not quite sorted in that as I say below it does not do complete cuts on vertical fonts (but does cut the second vertical on lets say an N) and even with the advice on settings when I try to translate to bigger sizes it just misses loads of the vinyl………doh. Oh and a third reason someone else is paying!

    quote :

Not sure why you would want a 30″ machine either, means that you are going to have to run it using 610 wide media or have the madia slit to a wider size which will cost you extra money. If you do need a wider plotter as Chris says you would be better off with a machine wide enough to take either a 1220 or 1260 roll of vinyl.

Thanks for the explanation unless its a 48 inch machine I will be better of saving a 100 quid and going for the 710 version. I can see why now.

    quote :

I know your machine probably hasn’t had a lot of use but it is still 4 years old and as such the price you can sell it for might be a lot less than you would hope for.

Well to be honest thats my reason for asking. I THINK its was over 700 quid but guess I would be lucky to get any where near a 100 now though.

    Thanks for your advice.

ps just my view but if buying a larger plotter go to a 4ft one 30 inch is neither here not there. and materials easier to obtain

Well its now not cutting the bottom of the i’s or T’s in fact anything with a flat bottom………….almost……..if its an n the first stick bottom is not cut and the second one is. Very wierd.

As for the new machine I only have the choice of a 710mm or a bigger one which I am guessing is 30 inch but may be bigger,.

I know I should be paying thousands but I am so fed up with this ^&*( I am prepared to take a gamble…stupid but its a hobby so its not like you guys that need it to work 24/7 or at least when you need it.

ask corel to page size as the driver

You were bang on mate. It was all about how big a piece of vinyl I had in the machine and the settings in the software and the plotter driver. I have finally got it printing only to find my Blade was blunt. While getting a blade I have seen some cheap machines that seem to have some better/logical settings and I am considering buying one as my son will be more interested in a larger 30 inch machine and will spend time learning the software. As I get older I find it harder to solve problems.

For any one who searches for this thread about a Puma II I now know how to set up the Pumma II from GCC and know what mistakes i was making.

Thanks to all who replied with advice.

I have been doing that Chris but when I select PRINT the blade goes from right to left and then an error light comes on.

I have tried new drivers, new cables different software but sadly it all seems to point to a duff plotter from what I can see now.

Unless any one has any more advice???

You should have the Puma loaded as a printer, if so, open the printing preferences and set the paper size to your plotter “cuttable” width by a couple of metres. Then use print preview to see how its going to cut……….

Might have to set the line width in Corel to 0.001mm and then hit the print button…………

Got it printing but just wasted 3 metres of vinyl trying to print 300mm stickers.. DOH

The sizes just do not relate to the cutter like they do with a printer.

Dont suppose you know of any tutorials??

I have a customer who is after a sun strip inside the front windscreen of a vehicle. This is to be made with Limo tint and to include some text which (if possible) is to be in metallic silver.
The last time I used metallic vinyl, it had a kind of paper back adhesive which is no good as the text needs to be cut in reverse. Does anyone have any ideas or know about a double sided metallic vinyl?
    Thanks in advance

I cant see why people buy signcut in its various guises if its not needed??

If its easy to cut from Corel I am happy to do that if I can get some tutorials on the subject . The only ones I subscribe to are just graphic not plotter/vinyl related.

My main problem is relating the viewable area in corel (or any other cutting software for that matter) to the actual area in the Puma.

    Hi

I Cant get sign cut 2 to work when using corel X4. It is now been seen inn Corel , which is a start but I can not work out what ports to use on my Puma SP30. I want to use USB but the only two USB ports are Graphtec and Summa.

Any one have any suggestions I am onto signcut as we speak. If it works it seems a good 40 quid to spend.

I know its bad form to reply to your own posts but feel I might be able to save others hours of anguish.

I have finally solved my problem today.

Its not just a simple case of adding the USB drivers when it finds new hardware BUT you also have to add some other drivers in the add printer section.

I tried various demos of different software and nothing would communicate with the plotter but the VCCD software from GCC did see what the setting were so I kNEW the USB side of things was working.
The main problem is you do NOT have to do this for Summa USB devices or Graphtec devices so it kinds steers you in the wrong direction.

Hope this help any one who has a puma/gcc in future

Well, if the public didn’t vote for her then why is everyone complaining? Without question she is a superior singer than J&E but at the end of the day the people paying a quid to vote are the ones most likely to run out and buy the winners song!

I don’t think Simon is to blame – The public are, no one else.

It’s what the show is all about, but usually the best singer wins in the end – she wasn’t it, I don’t believe she was ever going to win anyway, so if she didn’t go this week she’d be gone before the final anyway.

    Good hype tho! 😉

I think you will find the votes were fixed again!

And Simon was 100% to blame, unless you missed him saying I PROMISE WE will judge you only on this performance and NOT what has gone before. Then he went and used the public vote. Do you honestly think he does not know the result before we do??

There are only 4 singers in the contest. The two girls (one gone now sadly) and simons cocky arrogant lad. His mouth puts me off..even I could crawl inside it! And finally the best singer but they dont like him as he is trained……..doh. Take my word for it lucie would outsell the twins by a 100 fold given 6 months after the final. Flash in the pan and not even a good one at that!

I know I drive a Kia Sedona 3L diesel. I’ve toyed with the idea of using this for towing but have my doubts.
I’m also considering the Land Rover Discovery. I’ve looked at a 4L petrol on a P plate but have concerns about the fuel consumption as I was told these would do 25mpg. This afternoon I’ve been advised that’s incorrect as these at a push will only do 12mpg.
    What are your thoughts?

Get a Vw Passatt. Its the best vehicle I have ever used for towing and does 45 to the gallon with a car on the car trailer i have. Its an 02 plate 1.9 turbo diesel and is awsome. Almost as quick as a redtop in a corsa.

andy you should be able to turn the feed off within your software. if not, then the cutter will have the option.
what it is doing is unrolling the media in preparation for cutting. this way it can snap back and forward cutting at high speed without snagging on the heavy roll of vinyl. if that makes sense?

    Cheers for that .

I can see why it wants to do that but I pull it out myself and by doing what it does it does not let me use the little bits of Vinyl.

I will look for the options when I get some software to use with it again.

What software are you using ??

Did you have problems working out where the vinyl will actually cut?? I get so much wasted Vinyl. The biggest problem is that the Puma decides to wind in about 3 foot of vinyl and then send it back out again before it cuts meaning I cant use scraps or small pieces for testing the cut. Does the jaguar do the same??

I cant actually remember what questions I asked. Perhaps my questions should have been via PM (But I could not find how to use PM or email )as it appeared to me the chap asking (see I have forgot his name now. lol) might well be in the same boat as me. With a plotter with crap software and no idea what to do, no time to research it and finding it easier to pay 15 quid for what I want quickly!. lol

The point I was making was buying a 800 quid plotter instead of a 300 quid one is no guarantee of success. (still cant remember what I wrote) 🙁 BUt I would still like to have a private chat with Adrian.
