As you know I drive a Kia Sedona 3L diesel. I’ve toyed with the idea of using this for towing but have my doubts.
I’m also considering the Land Rover Discovery. I’ve looked at a 4L petrol on a P plate but have concerns about the fuel consumption as I was told these would do 25mpg. This afternoon I’ve been advised that’s incorrect as these at a push will only do 12mpg.
    What are your thoughts?

The Kia Sedona should have no problem towing google it and the caravan crowd love them.

That’s what I thought. But after driving it for 5 years now I’ve got my doubts as to whether it would cope on a daily basis. Maybe I’m not giving it the credit due?

Your Kia will manage it fine.

A 4.0 V8 Petrol Landie will manage 15-17 round town – just about worth it if it’s had an LPG done. The suggested 25mpg is farcical and probably a "seller’s" figure for when it’s doing 55 on the motorway…down hill and with a tail wind!

P plate – normally starting to ask for all of the major work to be done about now. They often turn into rust buckets, mystery engine leaks, electrics packing up, air con goosed, suspension knackered…and the interior fit & finish is quite ‘utilitarian’.

As Ian says – Kia’s loved by the mobile chicane brigade.

Karl, you’ll have no problem with a 3L diesel, just don’t ride the clutch too much and you’ll be fine. As long as the motor is heavier than the trailer there should be minimal issues………..

Get a Vw Passatt. Its the best vehicle I have ever used for towing and does 45 to the gallon with a car on the car trailer i have. Its an 02 plate 1.9 turbo diesel and is awsome. Almost as quick as a redtop in a corsa.

    LOL

Well it has been a while since you had a ride Dave. 😉

I’ll give the Kia a chance then. All i need to do now is get a competitively priced tow bar fitted. This all stems from a chat to a board member a few months ago. I didn’t want to rush into doing this but after a bit of homework it looks like this line could be worth a few bob.

When towing anything large you should follow the 85% Rule.
That means the trailer should be no more than 85% of the total weight of the towing car. There are plenty of places you can check this out on the net.

I know you’re only a young chap Karl, so if you past your driving test after January 1997, then you may need to take a test.

Passed my test in 1991 mate. I’m 38 but feel like a 90 year old at moment. Anyone got a new back I can borrow?
