  • Remote PC software – any recomendations?

Posted by Tim Painter on September 23, 2010 at 12:15 pm

Can anyone suggest any PC software to access another PC remotely.

Being home based and the cutter in the shed on occasions it would be handy to access the laptop I have connected to the cutter via the PC indoors.

It’s connected to the network wireless.

    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Tim.

havent used any for years but we bought Laplink and used it allot back in the day when this was first introduced, so i imagine they have come on leaps and bounds since then.

    http://www.laplink.com/

another we looked at but opted for Laplink was PC Anywhere
not sure if this is official or same software but appears to be.

    A couple of options

and gotoassist.com are the same company both are good for what they do
How ever both are are monthly or yearly paid software

It’s all built in, called Remote Desktop Connection and is very fast… however useless for bitmaps/photoshop work due to internet connections unless you have a huge upload

    Thanks all, much appreciated.

I’m trying Dave’s suggestion first as it’s installed.

Dave set up a Windows Remote Desktop connection on my network…..I put a webcam on the printer PC so that I can keep an eye on it as well…….works great.

The one I find most useful is Team Viewer.

For my support role at work, I need to be able to access PC’s and Mac’s remotely and I can run the server part of it here on my PC laptop and take control of any PC or Mac with an internet connection after talking a customer through running a very small and simple bit of client software.

And, of course, the latest versions of Shiraz have the client software installed by default 😉

The problems with windows remote are many, it logs you in as another instance and lots of programs do not work with it, Wasatch RIP being a good example of this, you can see this when you try to close the machine you connected to and it says are you sure as other people are still connected.

I use Ultr@vnc every day to access my RIP pc and it is great set up as server on pc to be accesed and viewer on other pc and it interacts very cleanly.

    Kind regards

    Russell.
