  • vinyl cutter – not cutting what I send?

I have a Liyu SC1261 with optical eye and have been using it without problem for months now.

The other day I tried doing some contour cutting and had problems – when trying to set up the offset when I used the PC keyboard to adjust the blade it had no effect. I gave up. Since then I have tried using the cutter for my normal one colour cutting and I cannot get it to work!!

I can set a test cut via the cutter itself and it works fine. I can set up my cutting job and request a test cut and that works fine too. BUT when I send the cut job to be cut I have been getting two scenarios:

    1) There is a long pause then the blade will move to the far left of the cutter – and keep trying to move making an awful juddering sound so I quickly press reset.

    2) More recently when I have tried re-setting the settings there is a long pause then the cutter will forward feed the vinyl and make a strange wiggly curve about 30cm wide then move further to the left and start cutting again – but I don’t know what it’s going to cut as I press reset as my vinyl is only 50cm wide and I have wasted too much already!

I have jobs waiting to be cut and need to get this resolved – does anyone have any ideas?

Not knowing the software, the plotter or your depth of knowledge with computers then if you have tried setting everything back how it was before you had a problem without success then the easiest solution might be to uninstall the software & re install it. If you do uninstall make sure you delete any driver folders that may be left behind.

    Hi Martin
    Thanks for your reply.

I am slightly wary of removing all the software incase I screw up re-installing! MY brain is addled at the mo down to health issues.

I create the artwork in photoshop CS5 extended, create the cut line in Illustrator CS5.5 then export through plug in to latest version of Sign Cut Pro using Windows XP 32.

I’ve been doing this without issue since October last year – I have a feeling trying to do the contour cut I imported a file to use as a demo (as suggested) and that may have caused a problem as that didn’t work properly and the machine hasn’t worked since! 👿

You wouldn’t need to uninstall all the software just the cutting program as this is what controls the plotter.
Even people without health problems struggle sometimes when it comes to computer problems so your by no means alone lol.
Easiest thing is to re check all the settings especially any that you know you have changed within the cutting program if your using a cutline from illustrator you haven’t accidentally increased the width or stroke of the line have you??
