    Peter,
Let it go mate. The guy already decided what he was going to do before he even put the topic on line. I say if your not in the sign game, get someone who is to do it for you.
And rhys, don’t ask us experts for advice if you aint gonna take it!
I wont give my advice to anyone so they can save money when I’ve spent a fortune on my kit to be in this business.
    I agree with you Peter…

Yesterday I was driving through Eastwood Notts. Scrote central I call it.
5 young lads wearing the usual trakky get-up and baseball caps.
They were all walking like american wrappers, you know, shoulders waving from side to side like they were something from a Will Smith film.
Anyway as they were walking past the car they decided to have a spitting competition to see how many cars they could land on. Luckily for them they missed mine. Mindless twats and I agree with the basra thing. send them there and see how hard they really are.

What a p1ss poor world we live in!
Governments only seem held bent on pushing policies they can make serious money from nowadays. As for 911, ask yourself the following questions:

Why did Donald Rumsfeld Move his office from one side of the pentagon to the other the week before it was attacked?

Why did every American politician cancel their flights the day before 911?

Why did a son call his mother from an American Airlines plane and tell her he loved her but refered to to her as Mrs. instead of mother?

Why were no bodies or plane debris from a jumbo jet found at the pentagon or Pennsylvania?

How come the American media have footage after 911 of Osama wheelie bin laden wearing a gold wedding ring when apparently this is not permitted due their religion?

Many questions but still no answers!

Personally I think the world is run by a bunch of Knob heads who are only their for their own gain financially and historically.

It’s a sad world when a copper can be put on disciplinary action for twatting a joy rider round the tab, but it’s only a slap on the wrist and a prime time spot on a Jamie Oliver competition on telly to give him a business for free!

Call me harsh, but I say hang the f*****g lot of em!

Regarding the 2 year old who was raped and murdered this week. I’m a big bloke but this really did bring me to tears. Put me in a room for one hour and I’ll defo show the b*****d what his testicals are for!

Kind of puts smoking in a lower category I think.

    Karl.

    Er….!
I never said you were arguing peter, just stating from experience the way things went with my old man! You are right with the Buyers Beware" statement. Sometimes what sounds like a good deal aint, and of course every auction house has different policies.

That is why I said you normally check the item or the box to see if everything is complete. If the bidder receives the goods without looking at the item first and is told it is complete, then finds after that is not, then you do have grounds for a refund. If you take the item home and find it’s incomplete that would be a different matter. Sorry chap, this one is your fault for not checking first!
Peter, as for when the hammer goes down it’s yours, in theory you’re right. My father and I used to go to the car auctions on a regular basis, and at any one time he would take around 5 cars with him on most occasions. The auction house did sometimes make a mistake and quote the wrong mot duration. The cars were returned and full refunds made.
Consumer rights still apply at auctions the same as you would expect from any legit seller. Mistakes happen.

If the auction house has stipulated items missing from this "lot" then yes. If not this could come in as a mis-sold item. I would have thought in all cases the bidder would have examined the contents of the box, then sold as seen would be correct. My view is if this has gone to auction due to a firm going under, the previous owner may have copied the disc and kept the dongle with the intention of setting up again with out the cost of buying the software again.

If you bought it from an auction house and still have the receipt you should be able to get a full refund.

    Lorraine,
I have asked the same questions as yourself, done my homework and my decision is the Mimaki JV3. So many good reports against other machines looked at, and the fact it’s the only make, as far as i am aware.
that carries a 2 year warranty. I have placed my order today and am really looking forward to receiving this.

    My advice – The Mimaki!

I would presume this offer was meant for people actually buying a machine from them. I would also presume they have fucked up like hoover did years ago. I don’t think you’ll ever see your course mate.
If the offer was to train you with or without a purchase then you do have a legal stance on your side.

    Sorry David,
There’s no need to sound off like that. If anyone on here is using dodgy software and I’m sure there are many, then yes you are right in saying they shouldn’t be entitled to free advice when they aint paid their dues. But this site contains all kinds of advice on software and machinery and many questions are asked everyday. This is what this site is all about.
I think you should retract or alter your post mate. Assuming this guy is using dodgyy software without proof and pasting on to these boards aint right. I wouldn’t be happy if this response came on any topic I put on here!

For me, No to yellow pages. Regarding telesales staff. The amount of orders you will get from this is down ti how good the person on the phone is, and trust me finding a good one and keeping them is not easy.
Make sure you interview as many as you can, and don’t set the first one on that comes through the door. Secondly make sure you have screens between them. This will reduce "nattering time". less gossip means more calls. enforce strict targets. If they don’t meet them get rid.

    Cheers,

    Peter,
As I said, a bin is not possible. When we close for the day the locals decide to fill it up for us and it’s not just a small amount of waste either. Yes, having a skip is expensive but I have found round here it’s the only way.

  • Karl Williams

Before I moved into the shop I operated from my brothers garage for a bit and to be honest yes I could undercut nearly everyone, but I wasn’t in it for that. I wanted to grow it and make sure that in years to come financial stability was not a problem. I have found running it from here was the best move i’ve made. Staffing is my biggest problem though. Getting someone who wants to come to work to work is a nightmare.
The tax thing….sorry, but if you want to be bigger and better it’s tough.
We all have to pay taxes, and if you want extra you have to pay extra.
My rent here is only £80 per week. The rates are £50 per week, and as stated above we have to supply our own waste disposal. We can’t put a bin round the back because every sod fills it up for us, so every 2 weeks it costs us £130. for a skip outside the shop for the day.

Can’t you get someone else to do this for you? Your Health is far more important than your business mate. I have suffered over the past 6 months due to long hours and knob heads giving me stress.
1 blood cell bursting in my brain knocking me out for nearly a week, and a minor heart attack 2 months ago. I know it’s not easy mate and no one can fault you for trying, but do try and get someone to do this for you.

    Phil,
I’m not knocking it. If you can get way with it and keep your overheads down, great! I did it myself for years, but there does come a time when you have to expand. I take my hat off to anyone who does it. Just be careful in case the council catch up with you and want business rates off you back-dating ten years. My advice: If you are doing it from home keep a low profile mate!

I know a guy who used to operate from his garage in Burton Joyce near Lowdham. Very posh down there. He managed to trade from home for about 20 years until his son took over and moved it to retail premises. he only ever put a small vinyl on his front door, about business card size which directed regulars round the back. John is right though, you can’t expect to run a sign business from home and expand without concerns from neighbors. If you are serious about running a business like this you are better off in the right premises and then no one can put a spanner in the works. Sorry mate but rates are a sad fact of life and they are there for a reason.

    Alan,
I am wondering if when the job is sent to winplot it might be converting the file automatically to an A.I. file for cutting. I Know where your coming from on the import and export scenario, which makes me think this same thing may be happening when sent to winplot???
    Annoying when it happens!

    Thanks
    Karl.

On the plate making software we have, if you don’t put on the bottom of the plate your company name and postcode it doesn’t come up saying illegal plate. DVLA state this is illegal. I wouldn’t stress myself over this one. Like I said before, supply as separate vinyls and then you can put on the invoice Various vinyls. Just make sure the numbers aren’t in the license plate font. That way you can’t be responsible for your customers actions.

You’re Safer supplying the vinyl lettering as a separate and tell him to put it together. The chances are no one will say anything, but it’s best to be on the safe side!

Licence plates need to carry the BS mark and be the correct standard. I wouldn’t think this is legal. Personally I would give DVLA a call to find out.
Alternatively just sell him the black cut out letters and reflective separately then it’s up to him to take the risk.
Oh, and put your tongue back in, you’re turning me on!

I Have been told you cant fill the cartridges up when empty.
Been advised only to use cartridges and never bulk ink filling, as the machine is not designed to pull ink up from the bottles and through the pipes. This question was raised when artsystems came and did the upgrade.

    John,
Nice printers when they work. Mine been ok for a while.
    The upgrade is around £500.
I would suggest using only original inks and yes, last time I tried to order some of the Eco Solvent ink artsystems told me they were out.
Sorry mate, but you will need to upgrade very soon!

Like I said I have the rocky, but if I could go back I wouldn’t have bothered.
You Must make sure everything is always clean because the print head housing picks up all kinds of crap.

Other than that they do make a good place to hang your coat! :shoot3:
