Can’t see it being a problem using any vinyl/paper as the labels go on the outside of the bags, not the inside. Most supermarkets sell paper lables to stick to bags so I can’t forsee any problems!

A police officer pulls over this guy who’s been weaving in and out of the
lanes. He goes up to the guy’s window and says, “Sir, I need you to blow
    into this breathalyzer tube.”

The man immediatly reaches into his pocket and produces a doctors note. On
it is written, “This man suffers from terrible asthma, please don’t make him
perform any action that’ll leave him short of breath.”

The officer says, “Okay, I need you to come and give a blood sample.

Straight away, them man produces another letter. This one reads, “This man
is a hemophiliac , please do not cause him to bleed in
    any way.”

So the officer says, “Right, I need a urine sample, then.”

The man produces a third letter: “This man plays for the Australian Cricket
Team, please don’t take the piss out of him.”

Billy was at school this morning in the outback and the teacher asked all the children what there fathers did for a living. All the typical answers came out, Fireman, Policeman, Salesman, Chippy, Captain of Industry etc, but Billy was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father.

“My father is an exotic dancer in a gay club and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes if the offer is really good, he’ll go out with a man, rent a cheap hotel room and let them sleep with him.”

The teacher quickly set the other children some work and took little Billy aside to ask him if that was really true.

“No” said Billy, “He plays cricket for Australia but I was just too embarrassed to say.”

What do you get if you cross an Australian cricketer with an Aborigine ?
Answer. A boomerang that cant hit anything.

What does an Australian use instead of a zimmer frame.
    Answer. A cricket bat.

    Anbody tried the Thompson Local?
Tried it for two years and found it a total waste of time.
Every time they phone up now to ask if I want to advertise, I say no way and they always ask if I myself use the Thompson Local. I always tell them that when it arrives, I drill a hole in one corner and hang it up in the toilet and that is the best use I have for it. That seems to stop their sales pitch! 😀

Before you decide on a name, consider your local Yellow Pages.

Punctuation is listed first followed by numbers then letters.

So think .007 licensed to sign

This would get you to the front of the listings.

The example given is just to show an idea for listing but crap as a name!

Try applying it with a heat gun and bake it on. Had to do this with a couple of sheds recently and it got me through though i did tell the customers that i would not guarantee them for lasting long. By the looks of the vans, the vinyls will outlive them 😀

I do a lot of work for 👿 Designers 👿 and got fed up with the daft pantones they chose for various companies, 1 being Stockport Council and when we had 250+ vans to do, it was a nightmare. What I do now is when I get a swatch from a supplier, I always ask for 3 or 4 more and pass these on to the designers and tell them to pick a vinyl and THEN pick the ruddy pantone to match. Seems to be working 😛

A flame is applied to the edge of perspex and polishes the edge to a smooth gloss finish. If green silicon acrylic is used, it looks like plate glass and is far safer than the latter.

    Hi John,

It’s sods law that if you buy a small van, the next job you have is hanging out of the back. Go for the biggest you can afford.

    1. Big graphics on it catch the prospective customers better.

    2. Not as much aggro with traffic wardens on fitting jobs as most big vans won’t fit into local car parks due to height barriers. Found them to be more reasonable.

    3. Nothing worse that rolling up to fit a job in a small van with panels and framing hanging out of the back or tied to the roof rails. Looks unprofessional.

    Hi Jem,

Not heard of this before but I spend £6500 a year on Yellow Pages and it does work in my area. Have picked up loads of work from it. Have tried other directories but non come close to this. Tried splitting my ads last year between Yellow Pages and the new Phone Book. The Phone book put me under the wrong heading in one section and printed the wrong telephone numbers in two other sections which I had cancelled before publication. Now gone back to the big Yellow and know it will be money well spent. Thompson local phone each year to ask if I use the publication myself and I always tell them that I drill a hole in the corner and hang it up in the toilet. That seems to get rid of them.

    Hi Carrie,

I have some racking fitted that the sheets lay flat on when they are sized between 1220 x 1220 & 1220 x 2440. I then have a upright rack for the smaller offcuts so that your not having to lift all the small bits out of the way to get to the bigger sheets. This is made up out of ply and looks like this
    I I I I I I.
The problem I see with stacking it upright against a wall is that the sheets can only be used for a curved sign if stored for a long time.

Got a weird customer who when he first came in I had to produce the Nazi eagle holding the swastika. Apparently he supplies vehicles for various films. Since then we have just done nine ambulances to the same spec. as the 1979 ones for a film on the Marchoness Disaster. The latest job was a double decker bus with the old type advertising hoardings set in the 1950’s. It sounds fun but when you have only got half a dozen old photos to work off, it makes your brain hurt.

It is rare that we slow down due to the fact we do a lot of contract work for three local councils, including their fleet of vehicles. In the past, before we got noticed by these, if work slowed down then I used to get in my car and go down the shops in my nearby areas and see what state their signs were. You can always find at least two that have some kind of damage abut the owners don’t realise that they are covered on insurance. I used to tell them that I could replace their sign for free and “lose” their excess on the insurance policy. It suprising how many will take you up on this. Once got 3 in one street but as we went to install, picked up another 2. Well worth the journey.

Used 10mm long rivets and used a pop rivet adapter that fits to a electric screwdriver so no problem getting the thing to ‘pop’.

Depends how tight you are in the cost of rivets. Suggest 1 rivet every 300mm. This way the fence should collapse before the sign does 😀

Did a similar job a while ago and we used some 3mm anodised aluminium plate cut to the same size as the back of the Panatrim. We offered the sign up to the fence and on the opposite side we held the plate, then used pop rivets to secure.

NAAAAW! Don’t Use Ebay Think it’s 👿 I have been offered £1100 from a second hand supplier of equipment who will undoubtedly add £750 on to the trade. I like to see it go to a good home at the right price and to earn it’s keep. If anybody has thought of engraving and has never tried it, I am willing to give you some training on this machine if required (Free of Charge).

Try contacting the federation and explaining what you need. I usually fin these feds. co-operative, especially if you say it is going quite large on a sign (so they won’t have any stock labels). Done this with one or two places and find that they themselves are looking for suppliers of logos so you may get more work! Always ask for their Marketing Department.

To save the expense and space of this equipment, it may be cheaper for you to find a local sheetmetal works in your area as most have this kind of equipment and will curve it for you for next to nothing. My local one actually does it for nothing but I always slip him a fiver.

We took a digital photo and resized it. The customer asked us to use a cloth tape to measure so we wouldn’t scratch the bodywork. The vinyl was cut to shape before we applied it as we couldn’t cut on the bodywork as it is all carbon fibre. We had to come up with the design ourselves but the front view was our customers idea to make it look like the F1 car. This we printed on the gerber edge for the shading.

If it is silicon acrylic you are after (looks like glass when flame polished)
then the best person to ask is Alun at flooreeda fabrications. He has a laser for cutting as well in case it is an odd shape you are after. Telephone 0161 442 3551
