Acrylic – part sheets & Flame plished
Posted by David McDonald on July 27, 2005 at 8:49 amHi All
Don’t get much call for acrylic anything but can anyone recommend a trade supplier for cut acrylic panels (don’t want whole 8*4 sheets), also offering flame polishing for the edges??
Many Thanks

Sorry for the dumb question but can someone tell me what Flame Polished is?
Thanks

A flame is applied to the edge of perspex and polishes the edge to a smooth gloss finish. If green silicon acrylic is used, it looks like plate glass and is far safer than the latter.

Hi Capricorn
Thanks for the contact details – Yep it’s the green ‘plate glass’ look that I’m after. They are mailing me a quote shortly.
Cheers

Thankd for that Capricorn. I thought it would be something like that

Hi Macky D
You probably already know this by now but the perspex you are looking for has a slight green tint, the colour code for this perspex is 6T21.
Clear Perspex colour code 000 is exceptionally clear and has excellent light transmission properties, much better than glass. This is why Perspex is used for new signs such as Prismex.
A green dye is added to the clear to give 6T21- so that it looks like glass!
Good luck

Hi Chez
Thanks I’ve just received some samples of 6T21 from Perspex Disti, just round the corner in Blackburn. I’m playing around with a few mock ups for a customer.
Cheers

Hi Macky D,
Great stuff. Perspex distribution has not been trading long but seems to be doing ok.
Some of the new products from Lucite international are really cool, there are some great flourescent colours available and some of the none reflective (frost) sheets are selling very well.
Good luck with your project!
Thanks
